Size matters, no matter what anybody says, and sometimes smaller is better. Especially if you know what to do with it, and Asus does. The Eee PC 1000H is designed for people that need lots of power in a small package. The Intel Atom N270 CPU and 1GB of memory run this Windows XP system with power to spare. A 160GB hard drive has plenty of room for you work and entertainment files.
The 10" screen has a 1024x600 resolution. Because of the smaller screen you can easily use it on a plane or train. The keyboard goes all the way out to the edge of the case and is 95% of the size of a standard keyboard so using it will feel normal.
Designed to be used anywhere there is a built in WiFi controller that supports 802.11b/g protocols. If there is no wireless signal around then you can plug into a standard Fast Ethernet connection. A webcam lets you have video chats.

- Pros: Amazingly portable. I easily get 6-7 hours of battery life from this thing. Boots in under 20 seconds. Runs XP home, Office, CS3, and most other applications that I throw at it very quickly. 720p playback is great with CoreAVC pro.
The "overclock button" is an amazing feature; the EEE ACPI software overall is very convenient, and makes switching between battery-conservative and performance-optimized modes, or monitors/resolutions, very easy.
- Cons: Does not want to output to CRT (in my case, widescreen plasma) at its favorite widescreen 1024width resolution.
Does not come with an XP install disc but rather an HD imaging disc that partitions your disc into 80GB, 60GB and some small wasted partition I cannot access. These partitions aren't seen by the native Ubuntu partitioner which made my dual-boot install unnecessarily difficult.
Gets a little loud when running at high-clock for a while, but stays quiet when I need it to be quiet.
Comes with a bunch of preinstalled useless software on the aforementioned image that you must uninstall (CCleaner helped here).
Takes a while to get used to the size of this keyboard and the feel of the trackpad.
- Other Thoughts: I cannot explain with words how easily this case smudges. The included cloth and carrying bag are used a lot to this end.
When you buy this, i recommend grabbing 2GB memory ($25): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145172
and if you have an old IDE optical drive lying around, this cable will make a world of difference ($16): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822999161
Great Portability and battery life!
- Pros: - Price
- Great bang for the buck! - Extremely fast boot up and shutdown. - Cool multi-touch mouse pad. - Small, very portable, and sturdy casing. - Easy to upgrade. (no warranty void like other models if you add upgrades) - Solid wireless range and signal pickup. - Keyboard is very solid. Doesn’t feel cheap like other laptops. - Screen is non-glossy, uses LED (instant on) technology, and looks great outside. - Great battery life, around 5-6 hours. (I’m sure you could get more if you tweak some things.) - Comes with a carrying case. - No real bloat ware!
- Cons: - Casing is very glossy and gets a lot of figure prints.
- The right shift key takes some time getting used to. - Should come with 2GB of RAM. (Memory is cheap as dirt.) - Speakers are weak, volume level is very low. - Intel GMA 945. Wish it had a little bit better GPU. Flash videos that are in HD resolution are sluggish. WMP, Dvix, Xvid, and Quicktime videos playback well though. It should had at least a GMA X3100. But a NVIDIA/ATI chip would have been best. - The actual resolution of the LCD is 1024x600, not 1280x600 as it is listed. - There is no light for the caps lock button.
- Other Thoughts: This is by far one of the coolest computers I have ever seen and owned. It’s so small, yet perfect for typing on. The mouse pad has a multi-touch technology. The fact the battery life is so good makes this a great tool for large trips or chilling outside. Hopefully by the end of 2009, ASUS will load Windows 7 on these things. After using Windows Vista on my desktop for a few months, XP just feels so old.

enjoying itt so far
- Pros: -Small and easily portable
-Larger screen than most netbooks -Awesome performance for everything but gaming / production (can do mild gaming fine, expect low res, lower 3d settings) -Windows XP w/ plenty of HDD for dual-booting -Great battery life, charge it once a day on "average" use -Perfect for carrying around DVDs, music, retro emulators, etc...
- Cons: -I don't really like the touchpad. As others have said, it's way sensitive.
-The feeatures are really cool, multi-touch and all that jazz, but they really don't work that well personally. -And as everyone else said, glossy finish = always dirty looking
- Other Thoughts: Get a good USB wireless / bluetooth mouse and it's a perfect, small, affordable laptop
Great netbook.
- Pros: - Very portable.
- Good battery life. - Bright screen. - Fast (faster than my T41).
- Cons: - I hear an occasional screeching sound. I'm not sure if I should worry about it.
- Touch pad a bit too sensitive.
- Other Thoughts: Keyboard is smaller but it's not a problem getting adjusted to it.
Fantastic!
- Pros: -Bought this for my wife, she has little hands so the small keyboard was a natural fit.
-Runs smooth. -Its surprisingly quick. -Handles MSO 2007 like a little champ. -My wife averages 5.5 hrs battery life -Will be upgrading to 2gigs soon. -Non-reflective screen -Sleek looks
- Cons: Shift key placement, but you get used to it.
- Other Thoughts: Great bargain. Even though its labeled a "netbook" this little thing can handle everyday use
