absolutely the BESTT
- Pros: this is the most current centrino platform - my winxp virtualbox vm works nicely - battery life decent i think about a near 3hrs. - i think that getting fingerprints on the case is a blessing because it provokes me to clean and care for it often - the form of this laptop is beautiful and i hope that ASUS keeps it's shape for years to come like Honda did for the Accord - i see ACER copying it's design here and there. LED light is superior to CFL the difference between day and night respectively. nice that my keyboard keys do not rub my LCD screen like my old ACER did. I LOVE MY ASUS COMPUTER. i can't say i have very deep pockets but my Laptop would imply that i do - thats how it makes me feel - the crown of the wise is their riches.
- Cons: vista 32bit will not recognize all 4GB of ram - should've been 64bit - my virtual machines need access to that extra ram. do not care for fingerprint identity - getting rid of OEM branding in Internet Explorer was a real task but i managed to do it - a few creaks here and there but i do not expect anything to come of it; still a very solid laptop.
- Other Thoughts: for some reason in the beginning when i first got the computer the nvidia video card tend to make the cpu's fan to kick on frequently to help dissipate heat but now after several weeks of use it rarely ever happens at all but most assuredly a good game like HALO will make the fans kick into full speed - i wish ASUS would give a customer a clean OS without pre-installed bloatware but rather ship a cd or download from the internet during registration and let the customer decide for themselves. - you can update the firmware with the ASUS WinFlash utility but the utility will not allow you to undo that action so you must use the 'AFLASH2 Utility for DOS' version located on the ASUS support site /download link and a fat16/32 partition with the firmware located on that same partition to revert to your previous version of firmware. this is crucial knowledge because i had to learn this all on my own and in the beginning it was frightening and fun but only from a technicians point of view.
- Pros: This is the fastest lappy I have ever used. It doesn't come loaded with bloatware, and it's about $300 cheaper than an equivalent from Dell.
- Cons: Battery life is short, and the screen is low res (but it worked for what I needed). Glossy everything means this thing is a fingerprint magnet. This lappy comes with 4 gigs of RAM, but a 32 bit OS, so you can't use the full 4 gigs without upgrading. These are minor complaints, so I am not deducting any eggs.
- Other Thoughts: I bought this for my wife, who uses it for college. Even her instructors are impressed with it.
Great Laptop
- Pros: I bought this notebook so I could get my gaming fix while on long trips for work. So far, I have not been disappointed. This is my first Vista machine and it did not take me long to get used to the new OS and this machine handles it very well. World of Warcraft and Source engine games run exceptionally well on this notebook and it barely gets warm during long gaming sessions. The N50Vn-X1B is a huge upgrade from my old notebook. The LED lit screen is quite nice and the technical specs are great for the price.
- Cons: Not many cons. The plastic bezel around the screen attracts quite a bit of dust, but not the screen itself. There are quite a few unnecessary applications that come installed, but they don't take long to get rid of. I removed the Norton software suite and installed Avast! antivirus which sits nicely and plays by itself without bogging down my machine.
- Other Thoughts: Good value and power for the price. Well build machine and nice to look at.
