- Pros: Light, portable and as shock-proof as you can get for a laptop. Runs stripped-down Linux distros very well (xubuntu, etc).
- Cons: There are much better eeePCs out there now; not great for multitasking. An 800x480 screen is NOT optimal for web browsing- the average webpage was made for a 1024x768 or similar width window. I still use my eee 4G and it is functional, but this first model was the guinea pig- you will find it has shortcomings that the newer models have improved upon.
- Other Thoughts: Asus has announced they are releasing a new-and-improved baseline eeePC for $200 in 2009. It will have much better hardware, and a bigger screen. If you don't want to pay for the $300-400 eeePCs, wait another month and you'll get more hardware and performance for your money.
Buy it fast
- Pros: I LOVE MY EEE! It's great for traveling and I use it every day to check email, shop at New Egg. Linux is great, does everything better; is safer to shop with. This comes with lots of installed software; all the basics. Skype, OpenOffice and lots more. Wireless connection is excellent; lets me get onto the neighbors internet connection everytime. The power supply is very small, great for traveling. Leave the battery at home and the laptop weighs 18 ounces. I took mine to Japan and didn't want to leave it in hotel rooms so weight is important carrying all day in a camera bag. It boots fast! Takes SDHC cards in a built in slot. Get a 16 GB. I used it to transfer digital video to a small hard drive. Recognized my Brother printer with no drivers added. I plug in USB trackball at home. Also has socket for a monitor. Big usb keyboard works no problem.
- Cons: Mine has a problem with the space bar. You have to press in a certain spot only. Smallish screen is ok, could be bigger but this one is by far the best value.
- Other Thoughts: This is a very good price. I paid almost twice as much but had to get it for the trip. Skype is great. We made unlimited calls from Japan (cell phones don't work) for 10 dollars a month. You can find a semi hard case for it cheap if you look around. I have white, love it, don't get perl, not as nice.

Simple, Powerful, Stable
- Pros: Very simple Linux interface (non-Linux familiars should find it even easier than typical Windows setup/usage). Decent camera, sound and microphone features (music plays in the speakers without sounding tinny or distorted). Dual function keys make hardware features quick to control (as in most laptops). Voice commands more useful than novelty.
- Cons: Some software interfaces can suffer from the low horizontal resolution of the monitor unless you install the VGA Utility which allows panning of the screen. Some voice commands could use less user interface ('Computer Music' could load AND start playing available track. 'Computer Shutdown' could start a configurable countdown timer instead of requiring two more user 'clicks' to complete for instance).
- Other Thoughts: Very satisfied with the unit out of the box. The addition of an inexpensive 8GB SD card in the SD port gives me all the storage I need to travel without any external drives or USB dongles 'hanging out'.
Great, Cheap Netbook
- Pros: Lightweight, small form factor, quick boot speed
- Cons: Screen is small but is easy to get used to, cramped keyboard, minuscule trackpad
- Other Thoughts: Great little netbook. Picked it up for $199, and it was well worth the money. Linux is a nice touch, and a welcome vacation from Windows. That being said, it comes with the basic desktop installed. I went through, enabled the full desktop and I now have a fully functioning Linux machine. The keyboard is cramped but is not too hard to get used to. I would have like a larger trackpad, but at the price, beggars can't be choosers.
I've started using this machine much more than my desktop, and I think that says volumes about just how great this thing is. Asus really outdid themselves!
Great value, Asus quality
- Pros: Solid, secure everything is included, got everything to work and updated from Asus website. This unit is very light weight and easy to carry around. The Linux OS so far is easy to use with the Asus Desk Top. The Linux restore was easy run on my Laptop with the restore DVD function, all well documented. Creating a bootable DOS USB was easy with HP USB Disk Storage Format utility (renamed SP27608) remember to have a bootable floppy in A: drive to transfer boot files.
- Cons: The battery could be better.
- Other Thoughts: I purchased this system to upgrade to WinXP, you can if you want to directions and drivers available at Asus website. As a scond thought I realized this system could be used for a retraining tool on Linux, for $249 what a deal.
