5 out of 5 eggsPurchased open box

Pros: Huge, beautiful screen. Quiet fan and operation. More features and functions than the space shuttle (btw the express gate feature really is cool... I dismissed it as a stupid gimmick when I read about it). If you've read the specs, you already know this thing hauls. Some people mentioned the keyboard feels crowded, but I don't use laptops often and this feels very natural.

Cons: Ate my coworkers' laptops.

Not really a con, but the pictures don't do the size of this thing justice... it's literally the size of a briefcase. I knew this thing would be huge, everyone reading these reviews and the specs knows that, but you don't really appreciate the sheer gargantuosity of it until it's in front of you. Definitely not something you'd tote around with you... think of this as a desktop computer which can be moved from point A to point B in a single trip.

Other Thoughts: Purchased an open box version at a >$500 discount... came with all accessories, works perfectly, looks completely new (still had sticky film all over), and I'm told that ASUS honors warranties for open box items / not the original purchaser. Oh, and Newegg executed a last minute shipping redirection to a different address for me - no charge. Newegg freakin rocks!

5 out of 5 eggsGood buy!

Pros: Sturdy, and built very, Very well. Awesome screen resolution , up to1920x1200. The graphics card can easily withstand punishing games like Crysis and Crysis: Warhead. Just a great deal Overall. You wont find a better deal.

Cons: The lights are kind of annoying if your not into the whole neon light, street car look. Luckily you can turn them off or even change the color of them. There is some bloatware that comes preinstalled right off the bat that you have to get rid of.

Other Thoughts: The Overclock Mode that comes with it is grayed out and you cannot select it in the tweaking tool at all. Maybe itll be unlocked in an update, Im not sure. The bios would not update even though I followed the steps and had the right ROM for the laptop. It gives me a strange boot block error and restarts whenever I use the bios update utility.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome

Pros: This is by far the Most awesome laptop I have ever owned. I traded up to this from the Toshiba Qosmio, Nice laptop too (was a brick though), but no comparison to the ASUS. I too have used asus Hardware for over 9yrs now in my Computer business. and have never been disappointed. The main reason I gave them a chance to impress on the Laptop.

Cons: The slight popping sound through the Speakers, which I don't really mind, but there is a Realtek Update from what I have been reading. maybe I will update it soon. but Im having too much fun playing Crysis on it for now.

Other Thoughts: YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED IN THIS LAPTOP!!!

4 out of 5 eggsWicked

Pros: Amazingly fast, solid construction, beautiful screen. Great buy.

Cons: Mic array doesn't seem to work properly. I'm finding it difficult to find the right driver update to eliminate the audio "pop" no s-vid out, mouse buttons a little stiff. Short power cord, short battery life.

Other Thoughts: Bought this for a portable desktop powerful enough to render video on, and it's really fast, can render 3x real time for standard definition video. Once I get the audio issues worked out (and it appears there's a fix i'm just missing the link to) I'll be delighted with the system.

Would be nice to have a keyboard that lit up as opposed to all the fancy flashing led's it has built in (which thankfully you can turn off).

5 out of 5 eggsGreat for Graphics Design!

Pros: Quad Core, 6 gb ram, NVIDIA 9800, 620 7200 rpm drive, OLED display. Lightning fast CPU, Good BIOS tools, some fairly usable utility software, Awesome multitask ability, cool cosmetics, free backpack and copperhead mouse. I have to say, I work in public service full time, and run a graphics design business on the side. I have built computers for years and have been, until now, apposed to high tech notebooks. On first boot, (after the pain staking drivers updates SEE CONS) I loaded Adobe master collection in appx 15 min, then simultaneously opened and ran Illustrator, PS, Fireworks, InDesign, and Acrobat at full speed without window hang, only requiring up to 22% of the CPU!!! The built in bluetooth and wlan is flipin sweet (no wireless notebook card needed) and is actually very fast. ASUS has always had the absolute BEST warranty and customer service I have seen. This notebook is very sturdy, not overly big like the Toshiba Qos. Way to go ASUS, you've impressed me again.

Cons: Requires the owner to have G33K status before running at full potential. All, yes ALL of the drivers were out of date on first boot. One of the BIOS utilities "Turbo Gear Extreme" which allows you to set CPU overclocking functions safely, IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH Q9000 Quad Core and does not work. After a conversation on the phone with ASUS, they said "I think our department is working on a software update." Well anyway, after downloading all 38 driver updates from ASUS, installing and rebooting after every one, the computer smokes; And I mean literally smokes! I am now doing most of my work on this machine. Although it plays 99% of the games i through at it, still won't run Crysis at full power. Oh well, it is a notebook.

Other Thoughts: Needs DDR3 RAM. I like the fact that the HD is partitioned into four separate sections (149gb x 3, 137gb x 1) for media engineering, because I can store Media, Data, games, and OS on separate partitions, never slowing down the CPU function. The screen is a big plus being 1920x1200. The Blue ray player is also a nice touch and includes an HDMI out! This thing is so freekin sweet.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Laptop! Go Asus!!

Pros: I have built alot of desktop systems and always found Asus and their mobo's to be very stable and top quality. And I knew that this laptop would prove exceptional and it is. Prior to this laptop, I had a Toshiba Qosmio (sold shortly after purchase) and then Sager NP9262, the beast of all laptops. I returned it too. It was too heavy and the lcd screen was too dim and VERY expensive. The lcd screen on the Asus G7G1-Q2 is breathtaking. It is good as any desktop lcd monitor imho. I had this thing up and running in a few hours with FFXI and WoW installed and running EXCEPTIONAL in 1920 x 1200. Amazing. I knew Asus wouldn't let me down on this one and I was right. I recommend this laptop highly.

Cons: Slight popping noise onboard speakers, but fixed with Realtek update. Slight bloatware.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat System

Pros: Very solid system. Sturdy build, doesn't feel cheap in any way. Definitely an ASUS build. Very fast, powerful Quad-Core CPU. 6GB DDR2 RAM is more than enough for what most people do (even though they don't seem to think so). The 9800GS is a nice touch, most systems have the 9650 still. Even though the 9650 is 1GB, it's just over 60% the actual power of the 9800 (in actual benchmark tests). The Blu-Ray is also a very nice add-on. I'm a fan.

Another solid product from ASUS.

Cons: Had that little popping sound when I got it, not a problem since it's fixed already. Not really sure what would cause that, but apparently they figured it out.

Other Thoughts: I do video renders and so 8GB RAM would have been nice, but I can't really complain about 6GB for the price.

Also not sure why they made 2 hard-drives into 2 partitions each. Total of 4 partitions on the system (like 138GB each or something). I ended up using them seperately (1x OS, 1x Software, 1x Games, 1x Multimedia). Most people don't really need 4 partitions though. I think the first drive should have been partitioned (so the OS can have it's own section), but the second 320 should have been left as one.

4 out of 5 eggsOverall Good Laptop

Pros: It is fast with a wide array of really nice features. Blue ray dvd/cdrw combo. 6gb ram. Asus quality! Very nice video card(plays WOW at MAX settings with ease).

Cons: This is my second Asus laptop and it is a bit of a let down from my previous model. The built in overclocking feature does not work despite repeated attempts with their tech support to get it to do so. It is not as fast as I was expecting considering the quad core processor. I was expecting a more impressive experience.

Other Thoughts: Overall I am happy and will stick with Asus in the future for myself and others that I recommend brands to, you can't beat their warranty! I didn't really want to put cons but it is marketed as a gaming laptop and the overclock feature is an advertised feature! As far as the speed it is fast, I was just expecting more from a quad core laptop.

3 out of 5 eggsQuality laptop, but has issues.

Pros: Video card runs almost any games at high frame rates.

Sound card popping problem is fixed with R14 drivers.

Very powerful laptop for the price.

Cons: Asus technical support. Every time i call lately I am on hold for 15-20 minutes.

Repairs go fedex 2 day, not overnight, and take about 2 weeks to complete.

Other Thoughts: For the money, still a great bargain. Just make sure you'r ea geek before you buy it.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Buy

Pros: ASUS has amazing 24/7 (non-Indian) support team
Nice LCD that wasn't noted...found out it was there when i booted it up
Had some very useful ASUS utilities
Free backbacck that isnt half bad
Free Razor mouse
Full control over side and front lights(also not noted)
Very sensitive touch pad

Cons: Short power cord
Cant buy bigger after market battery(about 1:30 off full charge)
Other than the Blu-ray player there is no XP version of drivers (found that out the hard way)
No s-video port
Keyboard is a little crowded

Other Thoughts: With all things considered its a great laptop for the price.

Sits at:
1-5% CPU Usage
1.40-1.46 GB Memory Usage (Vista's fault, XP sits at .25-.30 GB)
