5 out of 5 eggsBest Computer I've ever had

Pros: This is a great machine. Long battery life and wonderful for working on the internet or papers. The battery life originally lasted 9 hours. 5 years later and it's time for a change out because I am only getting a few hours out of it within the last year. I highly recommend this computer if you are not looking to perform high powered processes.

Cons: There are very few issuesI can point out and usually I am a problem seeker when it comes to these things. It is terrible for gaming which can be a drawback for many people.

Other Thoughts: Since this is only a 32 bit processing system, it has limitations in how fast it is able to run. I highly recommend updating the 1 GB of ram up to 2 GB's

4 out of 5 eggsGreat little machine.

Pros: Small yet powerful enough to do more than the basics. Nice keyboard and great mouse/trackpad. Nice build quality and reliability. Two hard drives with more than enough space for a netbook. Great battery life even after 3 years.

Cons: Screen resolution goes up higher than the actual screen allows (it causes you to scroll up and down within the OS). Power adapter (wall charger) often doesn't work and you have to put it in the fridge or freezer for it to charge again. Screen sometimes goes black (but isn't powered down).

Other Thoughts: Probably the best netbook for the buck. Lacks HDMI, but that's fine for when this netbook was released. Supports 1080p via VGA output to HDTV.

3 out of 5 eggsgood until power fails

Pros: great little device for travelling. very functional for browsing and word processing.

Cons: Power supply died after a year of use. Very difficult to find a new one that was compatible. Has an oddly small plug in area for power.

There are no specs related to power supply on the product information page.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome little machine

Pros: Upgradable to 2GB ram. Light as a feather. Fast. Wi-Fi, ethernet, hi-def audio.

Cons: The only thing I've found so far is that sometimes my finger slides up and off the touchpad and onto the space bar.

If there were some kind of bezel or raised edge around the touchpad that might not happen.

But that's very minor...this machine is one of the best purchases I've made in a long time.

Other Thoughts: I work in the IT field so I come in contact with laptops on a daily basis.

I had been looking to replace my Dell Latitude D630 with something and decided to go with a netbook. I sit in front of a workstation with two 22" monitors and a laptop docked next to them. I use the laptop to run our ticket system as the helpdesk send me and the other Ops members our tickets.

So when I come home there are days that I just don't feel like lugging out a bulky laptop (can you believe we've reached the point where we now consider laptops bulky and inconvenient??).

So I had compared this with one of the Acer netbooks and this one came out on top.

I may even use it to replace the laptop at work, I just don't want to put this thing down. It's a blast to use!

5 out of 5 eggsGood with some tweaks

Pros: I've had it for 9 months now.
Super light, great battery life.
Does everything it should with ease.

Cons: Only ships with 1gb ram. Really need to upgrade to 2 Gb. With more ram, hard drive is accessed less (faster).

Other Thoughts: XP runs really slow on this even with 2GB. Couldn't watch hulu or youtube.

Install Ubuntu netbook remix. Better use of your screen, and more responsive! I just switched myself. Everything works out of the box except multi touch. Easy to fix.

3 out of 5 eggsGood Netbook. Bad power brick

Pros: Was great until the power brick went out. Runs faster than expected. Does everything I want it to do. Great for quick stuff at work and school. Can toss it in my backback between textbooks and whatnot, and it doesn't get damaged. The thing is rock solid and will not break.

Bluetooth, cam, mic, all the other bells and whistles work well. Works great with a USB DVD-Rom.

Cons: Bought this unit in October. The power brick gets (or used to get in this case) VERY hot while charging. It was not enough to make you scream in pain, but it was hot enough to make you want to drop it really quick.

The power brick went out today (April 9, 2010). Poor support when trying to get a replacement brick when calling Asus.

Froze up several times out of the box. Ran ok once I upgraded to 2GB RAM and installed Windows 7.

Other Thoughts: Surprising poor support from Asus.

They won't ship a replacement cable until they receive the broken one from me. No sympathy at all when I asked to ship it before the RMA arrived. The rep put me on hold for about 12 seconds to 'check with her supervisor' who said there's no way it could ship before the defective brick was received. Once the battery is dead, I have no Netbook for 2-3 weeks while the RMA gets processed.

The rep on the phone refused to answer whether or not I would have to pay the RMA shipping. She stated I'd have to check my email for more details.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

We apologize for the issue you are having with the power adapter for this netbook. Please contact us at OC_Support@asus.com and reference case number NE0444. Please also include the name of the company from whom you purchased the unit.

Best Regards,

ASUS Support Team

5 out of 5 eggsTwo Thumbs Up

Pros: Awsome battery life (over 8hrs)
Compact (I slip it under my pillow sometimes when I go to bed)
Strong (dropped it twice and still going strong)
Support (Updates are auto)

Cons: I read everyone Cons and I say nothing is perfect.

Other Thoughts: Used everones advice and updated to 2gig of RAM. Thanks everyone for the good advice. Unit flys now. Wish they had these back in the early 90's. Thank Goodness for Moore's Law!!!!

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect for the portable lifestyle

Pros: This netbook is fantastic. The battery capacity and the battery saving profile setting is amazing. I just have to charge the computer overnight like I do my cellphone and its ready to go all day long. Well capable of doing most tasks thrown at it. I still use a desktop computer for any large graphic or video work.

Cons: The only thing that may be considered a con is getting used to the minor change in keyboard or the way the screen doesn't always seem to fold back far enough when you are using it on your lap while sitting in a regular chair.

Other Thoughts: I am well pleased with my purchase. The productivity I can achieve for the price of the computer is well worth it. A recommendation for any student or traveling business person.

1 out of 5 eggsBattery and Manufacturer Warranty

Pros: Small. Light. The product meet my needs as a grad student for months, until...

Cons: Everywhere I have read (including the NewEgg product specs) claim a 1yr warranty. However, when attempting to get my battery replaced due to its sudden failure, I was told that, and I quote from the ASUS RMA email, "EeePcs are only 6 months warranty". The email go on further to state that I can "purchase a battery on [their e store]". Well guess what... a battery from ASUS is 179 bucks. MORE than HALF of what I paid for the 1005HA in the first place, when you include shipping.

I would NOT recommend purchasing this product. In fact even after owning several ASUS motherboards, video cards, displays, and the like... this little ordeal has turned me off the manufacturer completely.

Other Thoughts: The tech support and RMA process at ASUS is totally dysfunctional. Tech support said to request an RMA... RMA dept said send the battery... so sent the stupid thing. Then AFTER my battery is on the way to CA, they tell me it is out of warranty. All along they knew when I purchased it... since it is registered in their system... and the date was on ALL of the correspondence.

NOW, not only am I out the 14 bucks to send the battery, but I am back to square one after a week of going back and forth with support.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

We apologize for the issues you are having with this unit and the RMA process. The warranty period for the EeePC is 1 year, but the warranty for the battery is 6 months. However, due to the manner in which this case was handled I will assist you in issuing an RMA for the battery. Please contact us at OC_Support@asus.com and reference case number NE0419 so that I may assist you in resolving this issue. Please also include any of the RMA numbers that you were issued regarding this unit / issue.

Sincerely,

ASUS Support Team

5 out of 5 eggsGreat buy

Pros: Has worked great for me. I use it for doing school work while on campus, and its size and battery life is fantastic. My girlfriend got one shortly after me after seeing how awesome it is.

Cons: 1GB ram is a little low, highly suggest upgrading to 2GB (first thing I did before turning on).

Other Thoughts: Wish they offered 2GB models.
