5 out of 5 eggsAwesome

Pros: Awesome laptop and great price, for 800$. It has a great build for its price. Graphics card is solid, so far was able to try out fallout 3 on ultra high. The laptop also stays pretty cool so far just gets warm but never too hot.

Cons: Why there is 4gigs of ram with vista 32bit is just a wonder, also with tons of bloatware as usual. Not too much of a big deal, replaced it with window 7 64bit right away.

Other Thoughts: For the price great build, great warranty, great for gaming.
Overall A++

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Laptop

Pros: Great graphics card, solid feel. Very fast compared to my past laptops. I didn't have a problem with the Free Windows 7 upgrade.

Cons: Vista 32 bit was a bad choice. Drives are partitioned in half.

Other Thoughts: With a fresh install of windows 7 64 bit (from my company) this is a dangerous machine.

4 out of 5 eggsReally nice

Pros: Very good price, decent build quality, nice screen for gaming, does what it is supposed to do.

Cons: Someone messed up and put Vista 32bit in it. Quick fix, just load Windows 7 x64 and you are in business. The only driver that didn't automatically install just required me to allow it to look on the internet for the driver. Battery life is short, but you expect that with a gaming laptop, also the gaming works but isn't great. I can run SupCom at 1024x768.

Other Thoughts: If you are looking for a really nice laptop for a low price this is it. Just remember the first thing you want to do with this is load Windows 7 x64. If you are not a tech net member you can still get the Windows 7 Release Candidate.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat laptop!

Pros: Great laptop, got it for only $800(was on a discount though)! a nice CPU, 4gigs of ram, and a vary nice graphics card, and fast hard drive. I run World of Warcraft around medium settings and i get no lag whatsoever unless I'm in a raid or major city, but still very playable.

Cons: Tons of bloatware, Vista 32bit(wish it was 64), boiling hot, and freezes on me randomly due to heat probably(only seems to happen when i have been playing WoW for over an hour), but I'm getting a laptop cooler soon so that should resolve that issue. Also it seems like vista keeps updating constantly and its bit weird because I've had it for a week and it keeps updating it. also the mouse buttons are a bit hard to press, you really got to press hard on it. Lastly the hard drive makes a random scratching type sound but I'm sure its not harmful

Other Thoughts: Great first laptop for me, runs my games fine and I was vary impressed with the price for the performance and free shipping. Thanks newegg. Only 4 eggs from me now due to the random freezing, hopefully I just need to get a cooler for it.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Value, Great Laptop

Pros: Fast processor, great graphics card. The 16" screen makes it great to watch HD movies on. It comes with a two year warranty with a one year accidental warranty in case something happens to it. Great machine all around, definitely will not find better for this price. I suggest that you take advantage of the 100 dollar discount while it lasts because this laptop is too good to pass up. Stays quite and cool compared to other laptops such as HP. Great function keys, and a full num pad! Performs games such as World of Warcraft on the highest settings with no lag at all.

Cons: As previously mentioned... vista 32. Horrible operating system that bogs down this wonderful machine. Some may complain about bloatware but it is very easily and quickly removed. Otherwise a great laptop.

Other Thoughts: As soon as I got this laptop I trashed vista 32 bit and put in windows 7 64 bit.

To all those looking to format to a different operating system... The only place you will be able to find the drivers for this laptop is on the asus website. Go to their support page and type in F50sf, click the name, and all the drivers will be right there to download.

If you buy this laptop, you won't be disappointed.

5 out of 5 eggsslick machine

Pros: -good size, fairly light. fits nicely in to my school backpack.
-sturdy.
-nice graphics card. i couldn't find any info on the card before i bought the machine, and rolled the dice. turns out the graphics are excellent. plays all my games on max stats or close. also runs 3D modeling software flawlessly.
-fast all around, when on 'high performance' power mode.
-sleek and shiny.
-it has a numpad!

Cons: -vista. i had everything working the way i wanted, when suddenly a bunch of system files were corrupted and weird things started happening. it took a few days collaborating with a microsoft techie in another country to fix the problems. i was inches away from installing my old XP pro... still considering it.
-i wish they would provide a real OS disc to make reformatting easy.
-bloatware, but that's life.
-i feel like the resolution could be higher... but i'm used to it now, so whatever.

Other Thoughts: I am a mechanical engineering student, and i bought this machine to run 3D modeling programs and other engineering software. I am very pleased with its ability to handle demanding programs in parallel with other apps (music players, etc). Plus it plays all my best games. Easily replaced my fairly stacked desktop. Very Satisfied!

5 out of 5 eggsMy first laptop that didn't suck

Pros: Hardware is great, the price for this laptop makes it an excellent value. I shopped around a lot and I couldn't find a better value for the money. I use the laptop mostly for games and movies, and the large screen is nice even if the resolution isn't supposed by a few older games. Other than that, nothing that hasn't been mentioned a dozen times by other reviewers - believe the positive reviews on this laptop, it is a ridiculously good purchase.

Cons: Software - Vista and loads of bloatware - but that's easily remedied. As soon as I got it, the hard drive was wiped and I installed Win7 RC x32. I will eventually check out x64, and right now I'm wondering if I should have just begun with the 64 bit build of the release candidate, but I needed to get the thing up and running with no flaws in less than two days before I left on business.

Other Thoughts: I am really impressed both with this laptop and the Win7 release candidate. Highly recommend anyone buying a machine with Vista out of the box to scrub it and check out the RC.

5 out of 5 eggsHurry and buy!!

Pros: Love this laptop, I bought for school, hopefully do my graphic design work on it. I was confused about the graphics card and what I could compare it to, and now that I've tested Far Cry 2 I know that this could be compared to my desktop's Geforce 9500 GT. And the disk drive is so very fast. Overall the computer is quiet, fast and will play the games you throw at it.

Cons: Problems with it would include: the glossy screen but its fine when your not sitting in front of a light, the touchpad buttons are indeed hard to click but I use my mouse most the time, the 32 vista is disappointing-I wanna see what this beasty can do, Ill be signing up for the free W7 upgrade.

Other Thoughts: I LOVE this computer. It's my first but as long as I can play some games at my desktop's quality and do my graphic design work on it Im fine.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Value, BUY IT!

Pros: brilliant, powerful machine for less than $1k.
2 year global, 1year ADH.
Very solid build quality.
Very quiet.
1gb 220m graphics.
Decent, loud set of laptop speakers.
Doesnt get any hotter than just 'warm', even with intense games.
Trackpad clicking is growing on me... I love the 'zones' that can be assigned to right click, back/forward etc. after 1 week ive almost stoped using the trackpad button in favor of trackpad clicking.

Cons: Vista 32bit? WHAT?! it has 4gb ram! microsoft, hurry up and release W7 already.

Trackpad buttons are stiff and hard to use. I'm getting used to trackpad clicking.

Screen doesnt have the best resolution, though for the price i really cant complain, its bright and clear. even if you decided to pay for a new hd lcd to be installed this machine would still be cheaper than the competition.

Glossy finish on the whole computer is impossible to keep clean and fingerprint free.

Asus bloatware - minor minor issue though. only takes 25min to uninstall these. facial recodnition is a cool and usefull feature, part from needing a few 100 photo's to work well and quickly.

To be honest, im just nit picking with these issues. overall im very happy with this computer.

Other Thoughts: Asus, you've impressed me again. I bought a A6600 back in 2005, after a long and hard life following me on my travels round the world, it finally started to die. Loved it from day 1 however. I was looking at dell and even mac for a replacement, but nothing could match asus for price v power.

Plays crysis on GAMER settings with only small stammers, and im running vista32 at the moment, so not even utilising this laptops full potential. most other games (eve, Supreme commander, HL2) run on highest settings without a sweat.

Photoshop and similar Adobe programs run fast too, even with WMP playing music in the background.

To put it simply, if you want a very good gaming laptop, or a good video/photo editing laptop without paying $2k or more, this laptop will put a smile on your face, and leave your wallet heavy with left over cash. Buy this laptop, and enjoy having the cash left over for a doezen slabs of beer compared with buying a similar spec computer from dell/acer etc.

4 out of 5 eggsKnow what you're getting.

Pros: Foremost, the hardware on this laptop is great for its current price. Some folks may crab that there's no DDR3 on either the VRAM or system RAM, but DDR3 on other laptops with similar specs jacks the price up ~$500 and up. Plus, DDR3 notebooks run the risk of having heat problems. After replacing the default operating system, this computer does a great job of running quite a few games, and did an admirable job of multitask work in a few CS3 apps for me.
Also, this is the first laptop I've owned with a numeric keypad. I wasn't expecting one, so I'm very happy about this.

Cons: Major: Vista 32bit was a phenomenally bad call. Add to that all the garbage software; you want to have the full intent to replace the operating system on this to something 64bit when you get it. It's got 4GB of RAM and you'll be underutilizing it; especially as a gaming rig otherwise.
The LCD is glossy, not matte. Minor detail for some but I have some heavy flourescent work environments where it is an annoyance.
Analog video port, not DVI. Asus, get with the times.
Weird issue with some commercial CD media not being read. It's hit or miss, but some CD's for installing applications I have just aren't being recognized at all.
No XP x64 drivers. Very forgivable, but I really wanted to install that, over Vista64 or Win7 beta.

Other Thoughts: I got this specifically for gaming. I'm very happy with the games I've installed so far, not needing substantial scaling back in the settings. The big, most resource-demanding ones I've installed were UT3 and CoD4. They run great at 1366x768, at the 'recommended' settings- the bulk of which were 'high' for post processing and texture elements.
I'm currently running Win7x64 RC1. It shuts down and boots up quick enough to make a Mac blush. Again I recommend anyone that obtains this machine, do so expecting to apply your own 64bit OS to it.
