5 out of 5 eggsGood laptop for the price

Pros: Good price/performance ratio. Fast processor and comes with 4 gigs of DDR2800 ram. Dedicated video subsystem instead of integrated junk makes it game decently. Built-in keypad makes inputting numbers in spreadsheets much easier. Built-in Bluetooth support is nice and I plan to make use of soon because of one of it's cons. Also qualifies for a free Win7 Home Premium upgrade from Asus until the end of the year at least. And Asus shipped out the upgrade very fast; I received it within 2 weeks of of registering (online) for the upgrade. Also comes with a $100 MIR that you can start the process on by registering for it online.

Cons: "Premium" sound pretty much sucks, like has been stated in other reviews here. It's not bad with headphones but don't expect much volume or fidelity from the onboard speakers. My previous E1705 had much better sound quality and volume. 32 bit Vista doesn't let you get the full use of the 4 gigs of ram installed. And the upgrade that Asus sends is 32 bit Win7 too. Another big minus for me is that this laptop only has 3 USB ports, compared to the 6 my E1705 had. So I will end up buying myself a Bluetooth mouse so that I can reclaim a USB port's use. I also find that the native resolution of 1366 X 768 to be on the low end for a computer sold as a "gaming" setup. I would have paid a bit more for a higher resolution screen in the same screen size. And like has already been said, the shiny plastic of the case does show dirt and fingerprints, but since I worry more about function than looks this doesn't bother me. Buy yourself a Macbook if you are worried about looks. ;)

Other Thoughts: I find the Asus designed cooling for this laptop to be pretty good. I run various BOINC DC projects and this keeps the processor at 100% load and Asus's cooling solution keeps the processor at around 60 C max. And this is pretty darn good compared to the 4 other laptops I've owned since 1998, especially for the number crunching power of this 2.8 GHz processor. And coming from an E1705 lappy with a 17" 1920 X 1200 screen, I am finding that it can be hard to adjust to the low resolution at times, but it's no deal breaker. All in all, this is a good laptop for the money.

5 out of 5 eggsFast, good service, Win 7

Pros: ASUS service fixed the bad NVIDIA 240M graphics on my unit. Paid for FedEx both ways, got it back to me in a little over a week.

I've installed a 500 GB hard disk, and updated it to Windows 7 Pro 64 bit. It gets a 6.4 on the Windows Experience rating. With 32 bit Vista, it got a 5.6 on the Windows experience rating.

I'm pleased with it.

Cons: Finish is shiny, and shows fingerprints.

Other Thoughts: This is faster than my wife's AMD Athlon 64 6000+ based desktop.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Laptop

Pros: The best laptop I could find for the money that met my requirements. There aren't alot of "cheap" laptops that run games at max settings. I play Aion, WoW, and HoN, and they can all be ran at max settings pretty easily. It comes with alot of software which can be seen as pro or con.

Cons: As mentioned in the Pros, it comes with alot of software, which sadly 75% of the software is useless bloatware that noone will actually use. Some of the software however is very useful, especially in the context of a laptop. The software you don't like can be removed effortlessly with a very low knowledge level.

When I bought this it wasn't released with Windows 7 and I had to use the Windows Upgrade, which is a free upgrade, but it took ASUS over a month to even acknowledge the upgrade, but it has finally come and is being mailed to me as we speak.

Other Thoughts: I bought a cooler alongside this laptop, so I don't know for sure that it doesn't have any native heat problems, but with the cooler it hasn't even gotten warm.

All-in-all, probably the best laptop out for the money if you are a casual gamer. If you play WoW this runs like a dream.

5 out of 5 eggsDefinately a gaming machine.

Pros: Good specs. Runs fast. IT doesn't look too bad either.
I just got done playing a heck of a game of Dawn of War 2. Not once did it lag even a little. Haven't tried too many other games but the ones I have ran very well.

Cons: The speakers. The Keyboard. Gloss.
The speakers are quiet, and very poor quality. The sound controls on the quickkeys(light up keys near the top) don't work.
The keyboard is insensitive and half the time I have to slam the keys for them to respond.
Gloss is annoying, but not overall bad. It's just not pretty sometimes.

Other Thoughts: Overall this laptop was worth the buy, even with the cons listed.

The Bag that came with it is nice enough, and the mouse is pretty decent, if a little small.
It also comes with a soft cloth to clean the monitor with, which works OK.

5 out of 5 eggsI love this laptop!!

Pros: I wrote a review earlier when i received this machine. After spending 3 months or so with it, I have to say that this machine is awesome! Granted, I added an SSD drive but still the machine smokes. It handles software like ableton and all my instrument plugins well. It certainly runs games like arkham asylum, wolfenstein 2009, crysis with no issues and thats with everything maxed out in the games. All my older games (EA sports, lucas arts, CS, UT) run sick on this machine too. The HD display is awesome. I've gotten a lot of compliments about it.

Cons: Mmm there are some but really any con you can think of is not a reason to NOT buy this machine...

Other Thoughts: Asus really makes it easy to upgrade and as I've said before the hardware is versatile enough that if I ever chose to go 64, I could do so and I can upgrade the memory to 8GB but since I don't have a reason too, I'm fine where it's at. Overall this is the happiest I've been with a computer EVER and when you work overseas, a laptop like this can serve so many purposes for you in life so thanks Asus for making a great laptop!

4 out of 5 eggs8/10

Pros: Well what can I say that everyone hasn't. It runs games better then I expected, and I didn't have any trouble till yesterday (I will explain later). It comes with some cool software, and has free anti-virus for 3 months. Not much else I can say everyone hasn't said already.

Cons: Well to be honest there aren't many, but there are some worth mentioning. First off it does come with ALOT of bloat ware, but its nothing 45 mins on the control panel uninstaller can't fix. Secondly Everything was going well until I was told to update my drivers. After I did, I started playing Left 4 Dead, and it began to lag terribly. The new driver software seems to cause some sort of glitch after you install it, and I cant seem to figure out how to reverse it. Oh, and the speakers suck, so get some headphones.

Other Thoughts: Over all I still like it, i think the issues that I mentioned about the graphics card can be fixed, but its still very annoying. For anyone looking for a solid laptop for a great price, this is it.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat bang for your buck, thats where it ends.

Pros: Spec's are awesome for the amount of money you're are paying. Very vivid screen, I haven't had any problem running my games on high. Comes with a high quality bag and mini mouse.

Cons: Speakers are horrible...I work on an ambulance and I have to shut the truck down and use my radio's ear piece just to hear movies or watch a clip on youtube. Every so often my speakers make a fuzzy noise and don't stop for around a minute and a half. Preinstalled with alot of bloatware that takes a good amount of time to get rid of. It also attacks alot of fingerprint marks on the outside and inside. Battery life sucks.

Other Thoughts: I bought this because I wanted a faster computer to play call of duty and eventually MW2 on and needed a laptop for school/work. Overall its not a bad machine if you can get past the quirks it has.

2 out of 5 eggsProblem of quality

Pros: a powerful machine,
The LED monitor is a good one.
The Keyboard is comfortable to use.

Cons: The buttons of touchpad is very loose, as if they have already been used for a long time, especially the left button is depressed.I called ASUS and the representative said that's a DOA and issue a RMA for replacement, but then they just repair and sent back to me. I found that the buttons are not fixed well and the HD was formatted. I called ASUS and got another RMA. now I have to sent the laptop again.

Other Thoughts: I have been using ASUS product for many years and feel comfortable. My friends said the quality of ASUS changed.
Maybe I should buy Acer or Thinkpad next time.

5 out of 5 eggsYou have to be kidding

Pros: 2.8Ghz dual core processor... one of the best on the market unless you want an intel extreme processor are willing to pay 2k+ for a laptop. NVIDIA GT240M Video card... an awesome video card and again, one of the best on the market unless you want an SLI rig and (again) want to pay 2k+. Sleek look and ASUS quality

Cons: No Blue Ray. Other than that no issues

Other Thoughts: You guys that are posting issues have got to be crazy... you can't solve a drive conflict? The speakers are no good???? ITS A LAPTOP, what are you expecting! Go spend 2k+ and get ya some BOSE speakers with an extreme processor and SLI graphics and maybe you will be satisfied. For the money, this is buy far the best out there.
