3 out of 5 eggsGreat for the first year down hill afterwards

Pros: Big, powerful,a great mix of hardware to game, DJ, and still do school work. ASUS tech support is amazing,

Cons: Fried after a year no warning, lost everything I was working on that week. First time they replaced the Motherboard, video card, video card fan. The second time the computer died they replaced the keyboard, touchpad, video card. Windows Vista-Win7 upgrade came for free but I had to buy Win7x64 myself

Other Thoughts: Good machine over all, Asus is still stellar in my mind.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat buy

Pros: Great spec for price
stylish

Cons: Window Vista
Keyboard is flimsy

Other Thoughts: Well i have had this laptop for a week now. Its been great so far. For gaming, it is great for its price, however the keyboard is very weird. I would recommend this laptop to everyone. However the system doesnt come with Window 7 and the ram is only 4 GB DDR2

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Laptop, few cons though.

Pros: Great laptop, I have had it for 7 months now.

-Very good battery live vs performance, I can get mine to last 3 hours with just music playing on battery saving.

- Great video card, I can run games like Mass Effect, Fallout 3, WoW (w/ Graphics enhancer) perfectly on high settings

- USB port on the right side as well as 2 on left side, allowing me to use my short wire mini mouse

- Very customizable settings for Video card

-Lots of memory, works great for using photoshop

-Touch volume, great for while your in programs & you want to change the sound

-Lots of temperature sensors that allows the user to know the temperature across their laptop (You can only see these temps if you download software like 'Speedfan')

-Very nice display, that is bright & clear

-Comes with drivers disk, and software to backup your AI factory state, I have had to use this to reformat my laptop, and it works GREAT, you simply fallow onscreen prompts to your new computer interface after sof

Cons: - Well first off, I'm going to say that the sound does suck. When your in a quiet room the sound is great, but once you start getting background noise, like in a lab with other people, you cant really here much at all. Good quality other than amplitude.

- Comes with Chinese keyboard format available, which actually makes your games freeze every 10 seconds, for 1 second if its full screen. I suggest removing this if you are not going to use it by going into your language settings on your control panel.

- Bad cooling system, but its a laptop, so thus is expected. If your going to play Mass effect on Max settings, it gets up to 80'c, 60'c if you take off plastic plating. I would suggest buying a cooling pad, it takes care of that problem. Otherwise the cooling works good enough

-Fan is are locked out of your control as far as I know, I do believe you can override Asus's programs for this if you looked through your registry for long enough, not much of a concern though

Other Thoughts: Shipping was good for me, although its been bad for some people. My shipping took 5 days, for about 500km, over the US border & customs. Newegg takes care of that though.

Overall I believe that this is a good computer, and should keep me up to date hardware wise for at least 2 years. When I bought it, 7 months ago it was 1,200, so if I could buy it now I defiantly would.

If you wanted a bit more powerful of a Cpu, Asus's next model up has a more powerful processor at 3.0 gHz on each core, for an extra hundred dollars, also comes with a back-lit keyboard

2 out of 5 eggsNice laptop but received it with a DEAD PIXEL

Pros: Very good specifications.
Appealing design.
Keyboard layout.
Performance.
Very quiet.

Cons: I received my brand new 1K+ laptop with a DEAD PIXEL (Dark Dot). This supposedly is an acceptable defect according to the LCD warranty of Asus (and many others of course).
No "free windows 7" upgrade path to 64-bit. However, it seems that 64-bit drivers are now available on Asus' support web site?
No backlit keyboard.

Other Thoughts: UPS shipping was a complete disaster. I had to go three (3) times to the facility which is a 40 minutes drive and they completely lost the package.

The facility manager had to locate it himself manually and to deliver it directly to me, to compensate for 2 mistakes they made.

So that's it for me with UPS. WIll not buy again from Newegg unless they offer another shipping option.

I've had mixed results with asus motherboards in the past and their laptops are highly rated so I thought I'd give them a try.

Overall I like the laptop a lot, except for the DEAD PIXEL part of course which put a negative spin on this expensive purchase.

3 out of 5 eggsWeak Audio. :(

Pros: -Great graphics card. GDDR3

-Awesome price, I feel it's a good deal.

-Runs really smooth with W7 64x

Cons: -Weak Sound/Speakers:

I changed the settings in BIOS from 4 to 8 (the max) and my old Compaq Presario V2000 (bought new 4 years ago in 2005) was still at least 3 maybe 4 times louder (seriously...)

So yea, just bad speakers, it's pretty weak, and it's positioned just above the keyboard. That was disappointing.

Other Thoughts: -I installed windows 7 64 bit right away, no problems with the drivers, they were installed with the updates :)

-I had no problems with the keyboard.

-I didn't really see any problems aesthetically with the finger prints. The only places where they were somewhat noticeable was the left/right mouse buttons and Volume Changer (which is touch). But even then nothing I would complain about, really.

-um...I ordered it on Saturday and got it on Tuesday (just like the other reviewer!)

So yea, aside from the volume/speakers this laptop's good. I guess I'll just plug in some other speakers.

4 out of 5 eggsalmost right

Pros: sweet graphics power, nice display. plays bf2 and burnout paradise at max settings. great through-put on the wireless hardware

Cons: Chinese language would keep coming back to default during certain operations. junktacular software installed.

Other Thoughts: to make this a great gaming setup install windows 7 and an ocz vertex or agility. windows 7 installed every single driver that this notebook needed. all the cons have disappeared

2 out of 5 eggsNVidia 240M graphics device driver sucks

Pros: Zippy, mostly works fine with the supplied Windows Vista 32 bit

Cons: The graphics device driver for the NVIDIA 240M keeps crashing, and having to be restarted. Is this just another NVIDIA software bug, or do I have bad hardware?

Other Thoughts: I cannot complete the 'Windows Experience Rating' without having the Nvidia display driver crash and have to be restarted.

I end up with a Windows Experience rating of two, because of the lousy display driver. I've tried the version of the drivers supplied on the install disk, the versions of the graphics and sound drivers from the ASUS support website, and the latest drivers from the NVidia website.

Is this just another Nvidia driver bug? Or, is my hardware flaky?

I just installed a new disk, and installed Windows 7 Pro 64 bit on the machine, clean install. Updated with all available updates from Microsoft, and I get the same error under Windows 7. In fact, I got the blue screen of death after the Windows Experience rating quit attempting to run.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Laptop

Pros: Extremely fast laptop. Great price point. It has a solid video card for a laptop without any of the over the top designs that the gaming series from asus has. It scored a 5.4 on the windows rating system.

Cons: The first one I received had a faulty cd/dvd drive. I rma'd and received a new one in about 10 days.

Other Thoughts: The glossy finish isnt a problem for me at all. The keyboard seems to be fine and I type fast.

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Strong initial performance

Cons: The machine I received quickly deteriorated. I use this computer solely as a gaming machine, and the graphics card is cropping up with problems and artifacts left and right after less than a month of use, leading to regular crashes every few hours. On top of that, the internet connection is starting to becoming intermittent, so I'm not sure if its a motherboard issue or heaven forbid both occuring at the same time. It appears the keyboard lag issue everyone complains about gets worse if this happens.

Other Thoughts: Might have a nice sounding spec, but built with inferior components.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,
