4 out of 5 eggsAmazing

Pros: - 4g of RAM
- Keyboard layout
- 320g HD
- Nice screen
- Size/Weight
- Quiet Operation
- Cool palmrest
- Battery life
- Really cool OSD

Cons: - No Bluetooth (still don't understand this)
- Slight keyboard flex
- Piano black finish around the screen
- A little pricey

Other Thoughts: I'm *really* picky when it comes to laptops, and I'm here to tell you, this latest offer from Asus is a winner! I have a few minor gripes about the machine like lack of bluetooth and the obsession of PC makers to use piano black *somewhere* on the computer. They keyboard does flex a little near the edges, but it's not really distracting and doesn't impact typing.

I immediately replaced Vista with Windows 7 and I am very satisfied with the result. Hulu HD, Youtube HD play perfectly. Office 2007 apps load almost instantly. I don't use this machine for gaming, so no comment there.

Bottom line: This is a sleek, light, fast laptop. The lack of BT, minor keyboard flex, and piano black around the screen are my only gripes--all of them known before purchase.

I bought this to replace a 1005HA, and I'm very glad I did. I think if Asus added BT and dropped the price to about $600-$620, they would have a stampede on their hands.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing battery life, light weight

Pros: The battery life is amazing. With normal web browsing and half brightness, which is plenty for most rooms, it will run at least 8 hours. Even during some benchmark tests it was reported about 6 hours of run time. I have yet to find or hear a fan on the laptop, so I doubt it has one. It stays amazingly cool, which is why it runs so long. Intel did an amazing job with this CPU/chipset and props to ASUS for integrating it into this nice and light weight platform.

Cons: I am still getting used to the glossy screen. I have always used the matte screens, so the reflections of the glossy screen take a little getting used to. It comes with Vista, however this is easy enough to remove.

The textured trackpad is a little odd. Since there is no border, I find my finger tends to wander off the edge then I wonder why my mouse quit moving. These are all very minor problems.

Other Thoughts: If you are looking for a laptop which is light yet has a lot more power than a netbook, this is a very good one. The 3.7lbs weight is amazing and the run time is unreal. I doubt it would play games very well due to integrated video, but that does not matter to me since I mostly run engineering apps such as LTSpice, Eagle, MATLAB, and SolidWorks. Some benchmarks with SiSoft Sandra indicate the processor is equivalent to a mobile Core Duo (32-bit) at 2GHz. The memory bandwidth is substantially higher than a typical Core Duo machine, which should give it an edge. Obviously not the fastest machine, but with extremely low power consumption, it has amazing battery life and very little heat dissipation. That is a winning combination for me.
