5 out of 5 eggsgreat laptop

Pros: Great hardware. All the parts are in working order. In the past, I have received items that have parts that were not working but not enough to put up with the hassle of return it. I hope it will be reliable as Asus claims to be. The laptop is a very cool even after 2 hours of game play. I am happy so far.

Cons: I am not as sensitive as some of the reviewers. The keyboard is fine. It feels like any other keyboards. The touch pad buttons are hard though. It is no big deal since I use an external mouse anyway. I don't like the gloss. It attracts finger print quite a bit. This can be easily remedy with the laptop stickers out there.

3 out of 5 eggsHmmm...

Pros: The hardware on this computer rocks! The price is great for what you get. The looks are nice and it feels good and sturdy. The video card is great! Not much for sound runs real quite.

Cons: Has lots of bloatware incompatibility problems. I had one shipped to me that would randomly restart without warning. That one was replaced and now the trail version of trend micro keeps saying there is a potential issue with random restarting because of the updates. Internet explorer is unstable at best and keeps shutting down because of unknown problems with no solutions. Some updates won't install and that was the same on both computers.

Case attracts fingerprints.

Other Thoughts: ASUS customer service is really bad. 30 min wait times each time I called. They would give me directions, hurry me off the phone and tell me to call back for the next step.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Asus Customer,

We sincerely apologize for the issues you have been experiencing with this notebook. If you had the notebook replaced through Asus directly, please email me at aps_support@asus.com with your previous RMA number, if it was through Newegg, please email me your product serial number and contact information; the email is aps_support@asus.com I would like to help you resolve the ongoing issues you have.

5 out of 5 eggsVery Nice Laptop

Pros: Overall a very strong performing machine. Like others have mentioned I was pleasantly surprised by the inclusion of HD4670.

Cons: Shortcut buttons under the power button (top of the keyboard) have no labels. Minimal bloatware, easy to remove.

Other Thoughts: Decent gaming machine, overall nice performance on media/multitasking. For the price it's a great buy - especially if you get it during the $100 rebate from ASUS. Don't wait!

3 out of 5 eggsGood laptop, terrible keyboard design

Pros: - 5 USB ports and dedicated graphics on a 14 inch laptop
- Good overall specs for the price

Cons: There is a significant amount of flex in the keyboard when you press any keys on the center and left side. This gets very annoying while typing, to the point where the laptop misses key strokes at times.

Also, the symbols in the top silver piece are very difficult to read. These describe the lights and buttons on top.

Other Thoughts: It's a shame that a few design flaws take away from what is an otherwise great laptop.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat value on a gaming PC!

Pros: -Price!
-Size - still big enough to enjoy games/movies/etc on, yet small/light enough to remain very portable
-Brand - Asus is an excellent name when it comes to quality & customer service. Their warranty coverage is great.
-ATI Radeon 4670 (not the 4650 as listed)
-5 USB ports
-Windows 7 (64)
-Very little bloatware (and easy to remove the little that there is)
-Handles all games I've tried flawlessly (I've run Dragon Age, WoW, Farcry 2 and some others on maxed settings with zero issues)

Cons: -Function key in odd placement
-Stiff touchpad buttons
-Fingerprint magnet
-Partitioned HDD

Other Thoughts: None of the very few and minor cons outweight the many pros, therefore this reviewer gives 5 eggs without question.

I was looking for a portable PC for my basic work/home use that could also function as a backup gaming rig (for when I want to play a game while laying on the couch/bed or away from home), I found this incredible deal, and I could not be happier with my purchase. Some of the specs (CPU speed, Memory speed, HDD size) were a little below some of the other machines I was researching but considering how much cheaper this one is, it was well worth a slight sacrifice.

$100 rebate (ONLY with purchase through Newegg) expires on 1/31/10, FYI!

For the first time ever I had some minor issues with Newegg's service: My order took longer than expected but since I've had EXCELLENT experience with them in the past I will give them the benefit of the doubt by blaming the holiday's. This obviously has no bearing on the product value/review, but worth mentioning.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Only had it couple days, not ready to give real review but I did like the asus laptop I bought 5-6 years ago. I really just wanted to comment about the 14 GB partition, it is for recovery. If you press F9 at startup you can restore your laptop to factory configs; just the way it was right out the box.

Cons: Okay, this is my first with windows 7 so I'm not familiar with it. I know what I want to do but don't quite know where to go to get it done.

5 out of 5 eggsgreat machine

Pros: -Best computer available at this price point (including rebate)
-Solid construction
-Radeon 4670 w/ 1GB DDR3
-Doesn't get that hot when playing games
-Plays everything I've thrown at it, even when plugged into a 1920x1080 TV @ full res
-4GB ram
-Big hard drive
-Windows 7
-Light
-Not much bloatware
-Decent battery life

Cons: -Keyboard "misses" some keypresses. It only happens when I'm typing real fast. I updated the BIOS and turned off the touchpad (a common fix for ASUS laptops -- you can also uninstall the Synaptics driver) and this seems to have improved things.
-Not an issue for me since I disabled the touch pad, but the touchpad buttons are hard to press in certain locations
-The labels on the top row non-keyboard buttons are curiously difficult to see. Whose idea was that?
-Inexplicably partitioned hard drive. This takes about 2 minutes to fix, though, just check Google.
-Although the wireless card support N, it is a piece. Hard to find updates, limited config options, and I'm not sure, but I think it's the culprit of some stuttering I see when I play online games.

Other Thoughts: All in all it's pretty sweet.

5 out of 5 eggsThis Laptop is the Bees-Knees

Pros: * came with a better graphics card then listed.
* nice bright screen
* keyboard is solid
* not as much bloatware as other laptop brands
* comes with a screen wipe and a cord tie

Cons: * can't see button symbols on top chrome strip
* weird partition - I understand partitioning for the OS and for Data/Programs but they dumped all the programs in the OS partition and then left 14GB of hard drive space partitioned to nothing. Maybe I don't understand partitioned HDs as well as I thought I did, lol.

Here is how they broke it down:
75gb partitioned to the OS (even though all the programs are installed on here) 230gb to data and 14gb to nothing.

Other Thoughts: As stated by others, this is a great buy. Some minor problems but nothing worth a negative egg.

4 out of 5 eggsGood price for power & quality

Pros: Good reviews, apparently a quality brand, feels like a quality machine, though probably more high-powered than I needed. I was also looking at the Sony Vaios, but the smaller-footprint CWs and SRs cost more. With the $100 rebate this was a good deal.

Cons: I do find the mouse buttons kind of stiff, and not as ergonomic as my old Thinkpad t41, maybe because the t41 had a set just underneath the spacebar above the trackpad in addition to a pair below the trackpad. Actually dug out an old mouse to relieve the crook in my wrists.

Other Thoughts: I would also say I'd have been happier sticking with XP. Never had to deal with Vista so maybe Win7 an improvement over that, but compared to XP, Win7 seems goofy. Little things like no keyboard shortcut for select-all, apparently you're supposed to click-n-drag. Unsure if XP will work on this newer hardware, though some of the Asus computers come packaged with an XP "downgrade" option.
