5 out of 5 eggsBang for the Buck

Pros: Awesome price, nice resolution, handles any game i've thrown at it thus far like a champ. (Mass effect 2, bioshock 2, World of Warcraft, Warhammer 40k, etc)

Cons: As expected the 260 GTX gets really hot. The side cooling fan basically acts as a hand warmer for me. With my Zalman notebook cooler the GPU usually runs around 65-71Degrees so its not too bad.

Not ddr3 ram, but not really a huge con.

Other Thoughts: The keyboard is a bit awkward, the number pad on the right could have just been left out, the raised keys feel somewhat cheap and tend to sorta make a squeek noise.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome Laptop but Runs HOT

Pros: Overall this laptop is great. It's fast and runs about any game you want to play. Screen is beautiful the 1080p resolution is great and the LED makes it super clear and bright. Fast processor, enough for whatever you need to run. Lots of memory and can be expanded to 8gb. I love the lit up keyboard and the new style keys. The fastboot is kinda useless for me, but a cool thing to have.

Cons: This laptop runs hot! You will need a cooler if you want to game. There is a fan hole at the bottom, but it is covered so that reduces cooling capacity. The Video card is underclocked automatically to the clock of an 9800 but can be easily fixed with a utility. Battery life is only an hour and half but that is expected from a powerful machine. Speakers are HORRIBLE.. even with the volume in BIOS turned up, they have no base and are less loud than my cellphone. But still, GREAT MACHINE!!

Other Thoughts: I wish Asus didn't take out from the package the bag, and the mouse that they used to deliver with their G50 series. Also it would be nice to be able to control the lights on the top of the screen. The touchpad keys are a little hard to press, but you can easily get used to it.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: resolution of 1080P, P8700, GTX 260m, not much bloatware, has windows 7

Cons: Overheats, not as good construction as G50V-X1 that I own, no longer has cpu on the fly over clock (normal, turbo, extreme turbo) No mouse and pack back included and also resolution is overrated and looks no better or is actually worst than 1680 x 1050 (G50V-X1).

Other Thoughts: Even after checking bios and video drivers were all up to date 205 and 18.15.11.8640 respectively I still get major hiccups in L4D2 and constant overheating. This can be a possible RMA. And if you guys thought this is a the best of the Republic of Gamers notebooks you never experienced the G50V. Much sturdier Panel ( you can feel how cheap this G51VX panel is) and more options on the fly.

5 out of 5 eggsCollege student

Pros: I am 22 in college with not a huge gaming need. I stick to my ps3 or 360 for gaming. Although I played through ME2 all weekend with not a single lag in graphics. I use the laptop on a best buy laptop board so I have somewhere to place my mouse. The hdmi output is perfect for my 73" 1080p tv. The speed of this computer paired with windows 7 (Im an xp user) is just amazing. Some bloatware although I do enjoy the splendid utility and control deck. The burner is quick. GTX 260M is superb. Best laptop for the money and I've been searching for awhile.
The keyboard feels amazing and lights up which is useful when you are playing a game at night and moving your fingers back to the 'wasd' keys to move your player.
-All the inputs for cords seem to be placed perfectly except for the 2 usb's on the right side where you hold your mouse. Although one usb is available on the left side.
-Fits perfectly in a Targus laptop backpack.

Cons: - a bit heavy. Though not for how it performs. This performs like an amazing pc.
-the fan on the left side gets hot though is not a problem for right handers. If you are left handed you may quickly realize this is not the gaming laptop for you. Though it works for a great hand warmer at times!
-LED lights on outer side light up when charging, center light is always on. Most college people won't automatically assume its a gaming laptop, just a pricey laptop.
-Battery obviously does not last too long although it does have a power saving mode which I have yet to try.

Other Thoughts: I will have this laptop for at least 2 years. I am pretty sure it will handle diablo 3 perfectly. I am stoked.
I do not play any MMO right now although this laptop makes me want to join one. Wolf in sheeps clothing? NAH!! =D

5 out of 5 eggsThe best laptop you can get at this time!

Pros: Full HD Monitor, nVidia gtx260 rocks, cooling system is awesome. Runs modern games at high settings. Some included ASUS utilities are useful and fun (like LifeFrame, Smart Logon, Power 4 Gear Hybrid and others). Backup/Restore is set up in an awesome way: you get the restore partition that you can burn to DVDs (4 of them) and a separate DVD that will install the windows from scratch. ExpressGate is a very useful feature when you're in a hurry.

Cons: Battery wear level showed 3% right away. How old are the batteries for this thing? Keyboard "pipe" key is recognized as <> characters in Linux. Overall the keyboard has pretty odd layout. I especially hate the merged Delete and Insert key. Still these are some minor issues. Nothing too serious to drop an egg.

Other Thoughts: CIR device steals the "tilde" key when you play games and you won't be able to bring up any game console. To solve this just disable the CIR device in the device manager.

I wish Asus would send me a new battery with 0% wear level.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: . Good speed
. RUN crysis on maxed out settings even on antialiasing 16xQ AA and full anisotropic filtering.
. Overall 5.9 rating but that is only because of the hard drive otherwise the average is 6.1 -ish
. Face recognition is awsome
.

Cons: it is not a flying carpet. But seriously this computer is the very best.
battery does run out in 1 hour and 18 minutes but The performance makes it all better therefore, no rating points takes away.

Other Thoughts: I have 3 Asus custom desktops and now this laptop, and so far the best experience. People say Asus have problems but I can troublehoot things and always end up finding that it is always my fault and fix it. Asus makes the best computers out there. This laptop can run any application and games you throw at it but remember to keep the hard drive clean for max results. I reinstall my windows 7 x64 bits every month. People complaining about not having things like, blue ray drive and what not and I say why are you complaining about something that it doesn't have? You pay for exactly the kind of monster you asked for. Buy things to install it yourself. This laptop so far the best I experienced and Alienware laptops are just expensive as hell compare to Asus. I know you might say that Alienware is much faster and all, but you are paying for all those extra power and of course you are not paying that much for this laptop yet it's a good comparison, since it can run everything efficiently.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Gaming Laptop

Pros: Runs many games, like Mass Effect 2 on full settings, back-lit keyboard, runs in different modes, has 1920 x 1080 resolution, cool design.

Cons: Kinda big and bulky and has a short battery life.

Other Thoughts: My old computer was an HP Mini netbook and it was slow, but small. I immediately sold it after I got this one, because this is a huge improvement.

2 out of 5 eggs1 week of joy

Pros: GTX 260, great screen, back lit keyboard and other things that people said, all is true. got 9300 in 3dmark06 with default settings, win 7 experience index 5.9 (because of the HDD), Graphics 6.8, CPU 6.3. Asus warranty if you register the product on time. possebility of 2 HDD. room for upgrade - DDR3, Solid state HDD, 2HDD. small legs, so there is a space or the airflow, and the computer doesnt get too hot as people complaine, but do dot rest your left arm next to the went, unless you want to use it as a dryer. i wander about lefthanded people placing the mice on the left side....
I am not a gamer and mainly use it for video and photo editing. 700mb film scan is easily handled by phshop and the cs4 is using GPU acceleration, so i can use GTX 260 all the way. tried NFS carbon - runs smoothely with highest res and 4aa

Cons: Kind of big for 15", keyboard has a slight play and sort of bends when you press even slightly, which is surprising considering that this thing is gaming. the cool blue light doesnt turn off, which is a minor annoyance though. weirdest HDD partitioning ever, something like 18(shadow), 84OS, 208 DATA. win 7 home, why not ultimate. asus blotware, not too much, but still (some is useful though). screen resolution is too high for regular browsing and if you lower it the graphic looks terrible while items are oversized even with 100dpi (small according to win 7).

Now the sad part. after using it precisely for a week, the HDD began making loud mechnical recurring noise (and we all know what i mean here) and in less then a minute i got the BSOD and now the BIOS askes to insert a bootable drive - lost data, no more joy and so on and so forth..... 2 week of wait for the repair or replaicment from newegg (dont know whats better) - end of the story.

Other Thoughts: Was going to get g51j-a1, but it got sold out, and it looks like that something was wring with it, as asus got it discontinued, as i heard. They could have put DDR3 and a decent HDD. it worked fine, but as i understnand the quality control is big issue for asus nowdays. i am glad that newegg did not ask many questions and just gave me RMA.
wander if the p8700 can be raplcaed with core i7 720.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent out of box...blazing after adding SSD

Pros: Excellent quality and value. It saved me enough money to add a 60gb SSD which took it to a new level of performance. That second HD slot is a godsend plus you can turn on RAID in the BIOS.

Cons: Kinda big to travel with.
Only a 6 cell battery.
Smudge/finger print magnet.

Other Thoughts: Those who bought this notebook need to add a SSD. It's night and day.

5 out of 5 eggsBest purchase I've made in awhile...

Pros: Access panel provides access to everything - no need to disassemble the computer to replace the CPU, or GPU (which is possible, since it's MXM)

Overclocks to 2.8 with no change in operating temperature or stability.

BEAAAAAAAAAUTIFUL screen. 1920x1080 is great for productivity, and the videocard drives it well in games.

Room for a second hard drive (My plan? An ssd boot disk. They're cheap!)

Nice rubberized palmrests...

Seriously? This computer is just pleasant to use. It doesn't get hot, it is quite zippy, and it will be extremely easy to upgrade to a core2quad in a year or so, when they drop in price.

Cons: The MXM GPU is not possible to upgrade at the moment, there aren't any better cards available (that I know of...)

CD/DVD drive seems a little cheap to me. I guess I'm just used to slot loading ones.

Sound is a little bit on the low side, and the keyboard has a tiny amount of flex (I only noticed because someone else mentioned it).

It is a bit fugly. I much prefer the sleek look of their business computers - HOWEVER, who uses a computer with 1.5 hours of battery life for business? This is a desktop replacement.

Other Thoughts: I bought 4 computers in january and returned 3 of them. An HP i5 dv6, a dell studio 15 (1557) and an asus ul30vt. The ul30vt got returned because I have an n10j and don't need another netbook sized computer, and the other two? HEAT PROBLEMS (very hot inside, and hot on the case as well)

Although under load the 260m gets hot (max I've seen is 85), you would never, EVER know if you didn't have software to tell you - the case stays quite cool, which leads me to believe that the case is properly thermally streamlined.

Got a Microsoft HABU to match the mood lighting that CANNOT BE TURNED OFF. (Not a big deal, you can't see the lights when using the computer).

One Year Accidental Damage, 2 year global warranty? That's just amazing, especially at this price.
