4 out of 5 eggs1 year and going

Pros: Now, wonderful thing about this laptop is its processing power, graphics capabilities, and overall well-roundedness in terms of specifications.

The graphics card runs wonderfully on the highest setting of power-demanding games such as Shogun 2: Total War.

The multicore i7 allows for extreme multitasking, as I mostly have Notepad + MS Word-PP-Excel + Internet Explorer + other demanding processes not excluding ones needed for encoding media.

Cons: Recently, starting in June 2011, the laptop has been acting oddly when it comes to particular programs, and will crash oftem if said programs are accessed, such as Steam.

It's a well-known fact that this laptop, due to it powerful specifications, will become an oven upon your lap should you neglect to put a cooler underneath it. Also, this laptop often whines and wails using its fan as a means to project that the interior is hot. However, the level of this wailing is now reaching the realm beyond annoying and into unbearable.

Battery life is starting to decrease from the once amazing 1hr45minute maximum lifespan to just 40 minutes. Perhaps we could've benefitted from a PROPER battery suitable for this laptop.

Other Thoughts: This was the laptop I lost my laptop-virginity to. I am very grateful to ASUS for creating such a powerful piece of hardware.

However, I wish ASUS could've made this laptop more... normal, primarily in terms of battery life. Also, the crashing ain't cool whatsoever, because this ultimately means that I will have to perform the format command of this laptop eventually, which I really hate doing when I'm in the middle of the school year. With that said, thank you ASUS, but we all hate it when ovens are laying on our laps, attempting to denature our skin and natural complextion.

1 out of 5 eggsJust Awful

Pros: The laptop has power. It can handle a lot of games as well as multimedia applications.

Cons: Where to begin... I bought this laptop in July of 2010. Right away it was having problems with bluescreens and completely freezing. The wireless also likes to turn itself off and force you to restart in order to pick any signals back up. I reformatted and recovered many times on this machine, but the problems are reoccurring.

I finally got fed up last May after owning the laptop for 10 months, so I sent it in for repairs. A promised "2 week repair time" turned into well over a month. When I got the laptop back, none of the problems were fixed. I'm still having the same issues.

I can't download any large files, it will completely freeze the computer. I can't browse the internet over 20 minutes or the wireless turns itself up and/or the computer completely freezes. I can't do much of anything without it completely freezing.

Other Thoughts: I will never buy another ASUS product again. The customer support just ran me in circles, nothing was repaired. I'm convinced ASUS doesn't care about their customers at all.

I highly recommend that you do NOT buy any ASUS products if you're in the market for a laptop. It will only end in tears and frustration.

Thank you ASUS, for giving me the worst buyer's remorse I have ever experienced.

1 out of 5 eggsit doesnt get worse than this

Pros: none

Cons: this is the anti-gaming, 'gaming' laptop

where to start....it overheats like crazy. i have a fan on it at all times and overheats on simply games with settings on lowest(WoW). it gets so hot, it shuts down by itself. not only are there heat issues, it shuts down randomly as well.

bluetooth, this is a headache. i bought 3 items to pair with this, a headset, keyboard and mouse. literally every 30 mins to an hour the bluetooth randomly quits and you have to restart it with the touchpad while the laptop spams the last key presses your bluetooth items used before disconnection. i went to the asus website to update the driver, and i get all kinds of errors when trying to install the new drivers.

this laptop barely runs games. dont expect any modern games to be played higher than low settings, medium if you are feeling lucky or dont need performance.

the hard drive is terrible for the size of games and music libraries.

the battery lasts about 40 mins

Other Thoughts: continuation:

there are two lights on the lid which look childish and just waste battery even more.

if you game with the lid closed and connected to external monitor, EXPECT it to overheat within minutes and just shut down.

my friend has this laptop and he suggests i remove the botton cover and have two fans on it 24/7. how is this acceptable? its not

the best update asus made for this laptop is their decision to discontinue it. its a waste of 1200 dollars. for the price, you might expect at least one aspect of the laptop to be decent, but unfortunately its a waste of money.

4 out of 5 eggsMostly Satisfied

Pros: Fast, really fast.
Can play the newest games on pretty high settings.

Cons: Gets really hot without a cooler underneath (GPU has hit 108C, all the other cores are consistently around 90-100 when playing a game)
Minecraft causes it to overheat and turn off from time to time. I can't figure out why.
Heavy.
Dust and fingerprint magnet.
Speakers are very quiet.
Battery life max is about 1.5 hours

Other Thoughts: Don't buy this if you're someone who has to lug their laptop everywhere. It's more of desktop replacement. It runs most games great (Rift, Bad Company 2, etc) with little problem other than the heat but for some reason it just can't handle minecraft when I'm on multiplayer. This is very frustrating. Also, I've dropped this from a height of about 3 feet a few times and it still works like a charm, so I suppose that's a testament to its durability. Also, note that the fan is on the left hand side near the back so it blows air out the side rather than the bottom. Not usually a problem, but if someone is cuddled up next to you they probably won't be able to handle the 100C air cooking their leg.

4 out of 5 eggsGood Gaming Laptop and Multitasking, Bad for Anything Else

Pros: 1. Awesome specs for the price!
2. Quad-Core processor makes it easy to multitask.
3. Great gaming card! Can play the latest games on the highest settings.
4. Pretty quiet for a gaming laptop.
5. Back-lit keyboard is really neat, but not needed.
6. Standard 1-year accident protection from ASUS.

Cons: 1. Very flimsy. Very low in the durable category.
2. Fingerprint and dust magnet. (Both on the screen and on the glossy covering.
3. Battery Life: Only 1.5 hours at the most on battery-saving option.
4. Keyboard somewhat unreliable. Sometimes one or two keys don't work unless you press them really hard.
5. Annoying lights on the front. (Cool at first, but then they just drive you nuts)
6. Very hot! If you plan on using this for games or even streaming video, you need a laptop cooler underneath. (GPU temp gets to around 95 degrees Celsius when playing games)
7. Heavy! (It IS a gaming laptop.)
8. The switch that turns off and on the wireless internet is in a really annoying spot. You accidentally bump it and BAM! you're Internet's off.
9. Speakers are really soft. Pretty high quality sound, but really soft.
10. Brick on power chord is HUGE, and can get quite hot if playing games or streaming video.

Other Thoughts: Overall a pretty good laptop. However, very flimsy and poorly compiled.

5 out of 5 eggsSWEET!

Pros: - Very Fast
- Fast 1GB GTS 360M video card
- Doesn't get too hot

I use it for gaming on max settings, hours of video editing, compiling huge programs, basically everything you can throw at it and it eats it right up. Love it.

Cons: None

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Gaming Laptop!

Pros: Great graphics card, great processor, full HD screen (read my cons about this). Great gaming system overall.

Games and FPS list:
1. Counterstrike Source - Max - fluent.
2. Team Fortress 2 - Max with no AA - Fluent 60 fps.
3. Fallout New Vegas - High settings, you have to play with them, turn water and shadows down, turn decals down, turn texture to high. Works mostly, but you get a few stutters after playing for a few hours.
4. Trine - Fluent.

All games were played at 1920x1080. The system heats up a ton, so its a good thing I bought the Zalman NC2000 to keep it cool. I wouldn't use a gaming laptop without some sort of cooling. Maybe the Asus G73 could be used without a cooler, since it has two jet intakes anyway, but not this one.

Cons: Screen appears washed out. To fix this, start the nvidia control panel and play with the gamma, contrast, and digital radiance.
The screen font letters can also be really small. Wouldn't recommend it for people with bad vision.

Other Thoughts: Fix the screen by following my directions above.
Make the system faster by using Win7 in classic mode.
Adjust the system for best performance under the advanced control settings.
Battery I got around an hour and a half on battery saver.
I would buy an Asus g53, g73 if you can afford it, just for the better cooling. But this laptop owns.

4 out of 5 eggsWorth it

Pros: Runs great, fast CPU, fast GPU, comes with driver disk with a few fairly usefull programs. Plays games well. super quick boot time when used with SSD

Cons: you have to take the almost entire bottom off just to get at the hard drive. runs hot( but thts expected with an i7) milddly bulky. display enclosure loose in some places

Other Thoughts: i installed a WIN7 restore image from my old laptop on here and got BSOD 2 or 3 time before windows would actually boot. but when i put clean install on hav no problems now.

ASUS ExpressGate is a really great feature. allows you to surf the net listen, listen to music, chat on skype, and a few other thing without having to load windows, and it requiers a lot less system usage
