1 out of 5 eggs$1,000 Pile !

Pros: -Ummm.....Decent for college note-taking? Assuming you have an outlet available.

-RAM was fairly easy to upgrade. Looking at adding SSD and possibly new CPU in near future.

Cons: -Runs SUPER hot! Like, don't use it on your lap, even in jeans it gets your left thigh very warm. I closed the lid watching a movie on my Asus monitor [which is good!] once and by the time I opened it the laptop screen has begun to bubble from melting from the heat! Nothing else was running except the Asus Dvd software.

-battery went out within 4 months - hasn't held a charge since.

-some dead pixels; when I sent it back in for warranty repair [keyboard/mousepad replacement, I believe] they said they didn't see any. Now there's what looks like a piece of grass INSIDE THE SCREEN! So repair work is very shotty. I also remember an email dispute where the C.S rep seemed to imply I was exaggerating that I was having problems.

-A TON of Asus bloatware and various programs that mainly just bog down start-up times and take up HDD space.

-Webcam is pretty useless unless you want only audio and an almost still picture transmitted to your recipient.

-Mouse buttons don't often register, track pad is iffy too. Keyboard is pretty flexible and cheap feeling.

-Screen has terrible color reproduction - I mean I know laptops have a lot of color casting based on viewing angle anyway - but this one is super bad for any kind of photo editing where you actually care about your color correction.

-I was fooled by the "i7" rating - the processor is super slow! Turning up the Graphics settings at all bogs the already weak system down even more.

Other Thoughts: Don't. Just don't! I bought the A1 version, but it's exactly the same with different warranty length/coverage. Whatever good reputation ASUS had prior to this model is eradicated after using this thing a week!
I know that this is an old computer, no longer available, and no one is probably going to see this, but I just figured I'd spread the word as much as possible. Try Toshiba.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Aaron,

I apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused you. All ASUS products undergo intensive quality control testing and inspections. The issues you are having with the unit are rare defect that may have escaped through the manufacturing process. In regards to the overheating issue, this may either be a software or hardware related, please try to run System Restore in order to revert the system to the last known good configuration. If the problem persists after System Restore, this can be a hardware related issue. If this is the case, I recommend that you send it in for service. The unit running with the lid close is possibly related to a corrupted power management services in WINDOWS or it is hardware related. By default, the unit will go into a sleep mode if the lid was closed. If you need help resolving the other issues you are having with the unit, please email me at and I would be more than glad to help.

Thank you for choosing an ASUS product.

1 out of 5 eggsNever Buy Asus

Pros: Price

Cons: Heats up like a burning log.

Other Thoughts: Two years and 1 week, before motherboard finally fried itself. I should have sent it back earlier because of the electrical burning smell. Asus is holding to 2 years by the day on the warranty, even though I'm technically only about 1 week out of warranty. The motherboard is fried at the dc power outlet. There are no parts available anywhere. Have called three times to get an RMA number, and have yet to get an email from them, even though they told me they had sent it. I was going to pay to have this unit replaced, but why bother, it will just fail again. This is my first and last Asus purchase. Poorly designed from the start. I am waiting for my HP Envy 17, and will try to forget I ever owned this thing. Asus just lost another customer.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat laptop for the desk

Pros: I haven't had any problems with my Asus since I bought it in April 2010, save for having to replace the thermal paste when it dried up completely. It plays music beautifully from an Ipod due to the mini subwoofer on the bottom and has a crisp, clear display when watching movies. The quality of the display is also clear when playing video games. For games, movies and music, it's a nice desktop-type laptop to have.

Cons: It does seem to heat up more than often but it could be because I'm using it mostly to play MMORPG games on it. But that can be easily remedied by using a notebook cooler underneath it.

Other Thoughts: At 7.5 lbs, this laptop is not good for travelling with unless the bag you are carrying it in has wheels.

1 out of 5 eggsdesign

Pros: Great Key Board and Screen.

Cons: This is one of the poor design Laptops I have ever scene, The Dc Jack is right next the the CPU exhaust and the soldering keeps melting on it, I have replace the the motherboard twice, ( under asus warranty) I have had it re soldered now 4 times, and replaces the dc Jack. DO NOT BUY THIS LAPTOP UNLESS YOU LIKE GIVING YOUR COMPUTER REPAIR SHOP A LOT OF MONEY. Mine now sends me thank you cards because I take This Lap top in so much to them.

Other Thoughts: What happen Asus YOU were so good

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

I apologize for the issues you were having with your notebook, and am especially sorry for the downtime while it was being serviced. As long as your laptop is under warranty, we can repair it, free of charge, as many times needed until you have a laptop that is issue free. I definitely recommend going through ASUS RMA than a third-party repair shop.

If you would like further assistance with the warranty process, please feel free to e-mail me at I'll be happy to help you in any way I can. Please include reference # 1032-193 in your e-mail.

Best Regards,

1 out of 5 eggsAnother Terrible Asus computer

Pros: Looks pretty

Cons: Sent the units back 10 times, had it replaced twice, and the issue is the same, the screen goes blank. Shows light and dark, no picture. works fine with a monitor plugged in. Asus customer service won't honor the warranty they stated when I received the latest computer which was 2 years on the refurb they sent me. The beauty of their customer service, good luck getting help from management. I've had their laptops less time on my desk than they have had it in the shop. Sorry ASUS, where you are polling people saying you have the top quality product, I don't know. Never again.

Other Thoughts: After being promised a return call, I am now 3 days in and no response. Another broken promise from ASUS.

2 out of 5 eggsThere's better computers

Pros: It was a great computer But has some issues. Very Fast when it wants to work.

Cons: I bought this computer about a year ago for my work. about a month later I started to having problems with my wireless card, so I looked around on the computer for the customers services#. When i called the phone number it asked me for my cell phone number and like a idiot I put it in and a the mechanic that asked me for it hung up a few sec. later i got a text message asking me to reply (Y) . have been down this road before I looked up the phone number and found out that if I reply (Y) I was going to op into something that was going to charge me 9.95 a month so I went back to Google and search asus customer services Ph#. when I finely was able to find it I called them. I talk to the computer tect and he told me that I need to down load a pach. so I down loaded the patch and it worked for a WEEK! I called back and the tect and it never worked I have nuked and pave and yet I still have the problem a year latter my computer started to randomly shutting of. Find out this is a common prom

Other Thoughts: I just wanted to say thanks to asus. You have made my mind up to pay the few more dollars and go with apple i the long run its a hell of a lot cheaper.

1 out of 5 eggsSmoked and died at 19 months

Pros: Great keyboard, great screen

Cons: Was using one night, it started smoking literally and died. Thank heavens I bought an extended warranty for it.

Other Thoughts: This was an expensive laptop, which I certainly did not expect to die at such a young age. I've mothered the darn thing, always used a laptop cooler and taken good care of it.

2 out of 5 eggsUp in Smoke

Pros: Fast, I7, USB3, Awesome graphics chip, Asus 24/7 support quick and fast, no hassles unlike other companies.

Cons: After owning the product 10 months. First two months in, the had to call Microsoft to correct the Activation, The key on the laptop would also not be accepted. It was a hassle. On the 10 month The laptop blew a huge puff of smoke out of the heat sink. The Touchpad multi-touch does not stand the test of time. Laptop has a port for a secondary internal HD, but no SATA/power connection to hook one up. Why?

Other Thoughts: While Asus software for the laptop has nice features are visual pleasant and easy to use, it's a resource hog. But that's what the extra cores are for.

5 out of 5 eggsQuick, Brick Powerhouse

Pros: - Practical and elegant (but solid) design.
- Great value compared to other brands.
- Decent sound from built-in speakers.
- Supported by and suggested notebook for Pro-Tools 9
- Screen's hinges set within the laptop instead on top of it*

*When you read about people complaining about the placement of the power port, please understand that this feature is what you get for it. In my opinion, this is a architectural no-brainer.

Cons: - Becomes somewhat hot (and a 17.3" Cooler is hard to come by, so, if you are interested, buy one now).
- 4gb of RAM will likely not be enough a year or two down the road for those of us who bought this computer for its specifications

Other Thoughts: This computer is going to make many people get down in the club, in their cars, and under the covers. Excellent Intel Core I7 Processor blows beats like bubble gum.
