5 out of 5 eggsUpdate on previous poor review

Pros: Because of a very helpful representative at Asus who went beyond what she had to do, Asus repaired this laptop.

Cons: Other customer service reps didn't try to be helpful.

Other Thoughts: Asus is a company that produce great products and still have some people who still care about their customers and will take a step beyond for them. Thank you T.S.

1 out of 5 eggsAsus has terrible support

Pros: Fuctionally, when it works it performs well

Cons: Terrible ASUS support and inability to obtain parts.

Haphazard build quality

Other Thoughts: First of all I usually do not leave bad reviews and after being involved in hardware for many years I expect that things malfunction, but to receive such crummy support and be unable to order parts fraom a major manufacturer is inexcusable.

I ordered this remanufactured from NewEgg for my wife as a Christmas gift, not noticing it only had a 3 mo warranty. She loved it and used the heck out of it every day.

At about 5 mos. I noticed the video blanking whenever you moved the screen on the hinge. As it was out of warranty, no reason to complain to NewEgg and worked on it myself. The vid cable where it wraps around the hinge was secured too tight causing strain that damages the wires.

Called Asus eeepc support, besides getting the run around from one department to another, was ultimately told will not sell me the cable, but would have to send it in for service.

After using ASUS products for many years, I will never again buy another ASUS product.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat netbook!

Pros: -Light
-Wifi-N
-OSX86 compatible

Cons: mousepad takes some getting used to, but that's any 10 inch netbook out right now

Other Thoughts: This is a great laptop for travel, watching netflix, listening to music on the go. Will definitely be purchasing another.

3 out of 5 eggsOK for the money

Pros: Nice compact netbook that runs Windows 7 starter.

Cons: Very slow at startup and lags throughout use.

Other Thoughts: I bought this for a xmas present for my daughter and it works fine for her and her schoolwork and getting on the web. This model does run extremely slow but I did get a great price on it so I cant complain to much. Startup is slower than any pc I have ever owned though.

3 out of 5 eggsHard Drive Failure

Pros: Price, Pink : ) what better for a 13 yr old girl for Xmas ?,Size , Perfect for her to check FB,uTube, and Video Chat w her friends.

Cons: only 1 gig of ram, Win 7 starter, recovery disk is worthless w/o optical drive, HD is soldered to MB, so I've been told. No swap out is possible

Other Thoughts: Great unit until she got the "choose boot device'' errors when firing unit up. symptoms and noise indicate HD failure to me. Asus was helpful and issued RMA with no problems. Glad it died before the very short refurb warranty expired.

2 out of 5 eggsUnless you like waiting, DON'T BOTHER!

Pros: Good battery life, extremely portable.

Cons: Does not have the processing power to do simple tasks like email, web browsing without locking up. It's ridiculous how long it takes this thing to perform thinks like TYPE!!!!!

SLOW, SLOW, SLOW......DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME UNLESS YOU LIKE WAITING ALL DAY FOR SOMETHING TO HAPPEN!!!

Other Thoughts: I really hate the touch pad on this....it may be the worse one I've ever used on a netbook/laptop before, and I've used many!

5 out of 5 eggsWorth the purchase

Pros: I bought this for my wife because she wanted something small and easy to carry when she does her writing. I installed an additional 1GB stick of RAM to bring it to 2GB, and installed Windows 7.

We have no complaints with this device. It works great, and is not too slow. I wouldn't try to play games on it, but for web browsing and Office-type applications it is quite adequate.

Cons: Kinda wish it had a gigabit wired ethernet instead of 100mbit, but realistically the only time I had it wired was when I was installing the OS over the network, so it's no big deal.

4 out of 5 eggsohhh pink

Pros: It's small, I like the keyboard, very light, long battery life, runs cool. Does what I need it to do! Oh yeah and it's pink ;)

Cons: Only has 1 gig of memory and the built in camera isn't so great but it has one...i guess...

Other Thoughts: I got this for only $220 so it was well worth it.

4 out of 5 eggsNot Bad

Pros: 1) Price
2) Light weight
3) Battery Life

Cons: Win7 Starter...not much you can do with it...only 1 gig RAM
Tones of extra junk software installed
No space between touch pad and spacebar...makes for unintended mouse movement when typing.

Other Thoughts: A lot of people have complained about the touch pad not being very usable, but I found it much better than most smooth touch pads.

4 out of 5 eggsNot too shabby

Pros: Inexpensive. Seems sturdy. Small and very portable. Excellent as a web browser or to perform tasks that don't require a ton of resources.

Cons: I installed Windows 7 home edition, since it comes with Windows 7 "starter" which is very limited. The next day the screen went blank and never came back on. After trying to restore it for a week, I RMA'd it to newegg. They "fixed" it by putting Windows 7 starter back on it. So keep in mind that if you want to upgrade to a real version of Windows, you may run into some trouble.

Other Thoughts: This will play DVD movies converted to AVI from a SD card, and it plays them very well. It runs Open Office just as well as my desktop PC. Windows 7 Starter isn't very good, but you can get around some of it's limitations if you're clever enough. If my OS swap wouldn't have caused the screen to malfunction, this would have been perfect.
