4 out of 5 eggsOk for a while

Pros: I liked the cover of the laptop and the size it has worked great for school and for a while was great for gaming. I like the brand of video card

Cons: after the 2rd month of owning it the "H" key quit working and now have to press on it like i mean it to get it to work. The vedio card does not like the updates and i have to keep rolling it back to the previouse version to get it to work and even then it over heats really bad and my laptop fan cant keep up with the heat so my games are lagging really bad and i am afraid that it will over heat and die on me so i am carfull not to run it too long anymore i have had this laptop for almost 2 years and i will never buy referbished again. I do have a cooling fan to put under it but that does not even work.

Other Thoughts: I did some reserch on the video card in my laptop and it is a good card BUT it has a lot of issues with over heating, not accepting updates and among other things I wont buy that style of video card again or any computer with that video card in it.

2 out of 5 eggsHappy and sad

Pros: Great gaming Laptop

Cons: The laptop didn't come with a backlit keyboard, the battery doesn't last as long as they say. Overall the laptop runs fast.

1 out of 5 eggsround 2 (3)

Pros: LED Keyboard was fixed...
ASUS did get the laptop back to me pretty fast (although I live in the bay area, so its not like it had far to go).
Broken USB ports worked (for a short while)

Cons: Problems out of the box : No LED working with Keyboard, Right Side USB and all three Audio in/out jacks not working.
Tried to contact Newegg about problems...no response round 1.
Asus allowed RMA, but shipping at my expense.
Asus re-certify round 2 turned the laptop around in under two weeks.
LED Keyboard was fixed.
Problems with all three Audio jacks persist: low audio on mic, no left channel on audio input, no audio/missing low left channel on Audio out/and still does not recognize jack all the time (speakers still play with headphones plugged in).
After just a few days both USB ports on right side failed again.
6 days left on Newegg warranty to RMA with them or go back to ASUS for the third attempt to make this unit work?
Old laptop is dead so two weeks without a computer thanks to all parties involved.
Return laptop for good and get a reputable brand or try to fix it again (at my expense again to ship out)??
What else will go wrong?

Other Thoughts: Good deal ($) for a good looking laptop...but not a product anyone seems to want to stand behind. I just don't trust Asus quality wise. It says something that the problems have not been fixed and require a third examination while the customer/owner suffers. Too bad...

1 out of 5 eggsit was too good to be true...

Pros: Looks brand new. No scratches or defects.

Cons: This unit was not properly re-certified:

- Laptop Manual .PDF and "Refurbished Asus Laptop and Netbook Welcome Packet.pdf" were not found anywhere on any partition of the hard drive (supposed to be included).
- Backlit Keyboard not working. Lengthy troubleshooting and replacing drivers changed nothing.
- 2 x USB 2.0 Ports on right side not working (Windows shows no error).
- 3 x Audio jacks (Mic in, Audio In, Speaker/Headphone out) are not working. Built in speakers work fine, but keep playing when you plug in external headphones/speakers.

Other Thoughts: Asus tech support was thorough (even for a re-certified laptop).
20+ re-boots/config and driver changes later and I was advised to send it back to ASUS (at my expense to them). We'll see what happens after I ship this unit back to ASUS (and how long it takes).

ps you will have to update your Windows 7 validation state. It starts at thinking that it is not "genuine", so be sure to write down all the info on the back of your laptop for use later.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Laptop!

Pros: This has been a great computer for me over the past year or so that I've had it, Plays all the games I've thrown at it great, (ie: Battlefield 3, Bad company 2, Americas army 3, red orchestra 2, GTA 4, Rigs of Rods, etc) Keyboard back lighting is great because I use my computer with the lights out at night and I can still see to find whatever key I need, numpad is really nice to have too.

Cons: I don't have any cons for it except that it would be nice if it came with Bluetooth built in.

Other Thoughts: Great power and performance for the price!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat comp

Pros: This little guy is fast, and pretty quiet. The keyboard back lighting looks awesome. A decent size hard drive with good graphics card and processor help out. I use this every morning with Ubuntu to run a weather model, and it performs the calculations quite fast. I also game on it in Windows mode and only can complain about the heat on the left side. I had no defective components/screws missing like some of the others.

Cons: Gets pretty warm where your left hand would rest while playing a game that uses "WASD" keys for movement. It does get hot enough to cause pain. No CD's on arrival, but this is apparently the new trend, for you to make your own backup CD when you first get the computer, nothing that newegg.com is responsible for.

Other Thoughts: I would buy another re-certified computer from ASUS. Although their CS is horrible, I really like the product

3 out of 5 eggsNice laptop if everything works

Pros: Everything ran very smoothly. Had no trouble installing, updating or playing any games. Played Crysis on max settings without any lag. The smart-log on option is nice. It's a pretty fast laptop for the price.

Cons: The headphone jack was defective (guessing the pin was stuck). It always thought headphones were plugged in when there were not, therefore the laptop speakers wouldn't produce sound. Sent for a replacement.

Other Thoughts: It gets very hot on the left side where the video card is located, I recommend a cooler.

5 out of 5 eggsUnbeatable at the price

Pros: -The cost
-Runs anything I've thrown at it (Just Cause 2 with settings maxed, Crysis 2 has no issues, and a virtual multi-system environment runs without a hitch)
-Works great as a workhorse dev environment as well: Pentium i5 and 4gb ram is more than enough to handle a simultaneous load of VS2010, Eclipse, Photoshop, Blender, and multiple browsers.
-Runs hot under load, but with the side vent it's never been an issue to use on my lap.
-Just a personal thing, but I love the chiclet keyboard. Backlighting makes it easy to use in a dark environment (like some college lecture halls) and marathon coding/typing sessions were quiet and comfortable.
-I've owned this since Nov '10 and haven't had any issues with it whatsoever.

Cons: Some of the build quality shows (and this could be related to the recert state): the border around the monitor pops in and out a bit if you press on it (usually seen while adjusting monitor angle)

Battery life is about 3-4 hours if I take steps like turning the screen brightness all the way down + turning off keyboard backlighting. Haven't owned many laptops, so that may be a pro for some people, but this laptop is usually tethered to a wall outlet. At least the power adapter is LONG.

Also, the "Republic of Gamers" branding is a bit hokey, but liveable.

Other Thoughts: YMMV: I immediately formatted the drive (sans the factory reset partition) and installed my own copy of Win7 Ultimate 64-bit. Makes the issues with bloat-ware nonexistant if you have a license for the OS already.

If you're on a budget like I was, this is THE laptop to buy for just about any style of use. Great as a hefty gaming rig, serious development system, or casual-use PC.

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: the graphics car was really for a laptop considering this was the first laptop ive ever owned.

windows 7 is amazing, just saying.

Cons: but, the keyboard was suppose to have backlights didnt work.

the 2 USB's on the right hand side were broke.

the speakers didnt work even after i re-downloaded the drivers for both the suggested dirvers "RelTek" and "Creative"

i play alot of League of Legends, and Team Fortress 2 and everytime i played each of these games for more then 30 minutes the laptop would over heat and freeze (at least thats that im assuming)

Other Thoughts: overall i wasnt pleased with this laptop at all, its like they got a used laptop from someone that didn work and just packed it up and shipped it out...

4 out of 5 eggs2nd time around

Pros: Update: So I got my 2nd LT today, and this one worked right out of the box, Unlike the 1st one. I am very happy with it, subtract and egg for the 2 weeks it took to get it.

Cons: Too much trash ware, the wireless card needed windows to troubleshoot and turn it on,

Other Thoughts: for the money I guess it was worth the wait, was not looking forward doing the research on another one. Although during the wait, I did research ASUS, MOBO are awesome, as I have built 7 machines with them without a hitch, but might not buy a prebuilt one by them again. I wont bad mouth them, do your own research and see
