4 out of 5 eggsExpensive But Amazing Netbook

Pros: Best looking netbook/laptop Ive ever seen. The white version looks something like a Dell XPS/Alienware gaming laptop. Very thin and sleek. Has an amazing cell-like texture. Think Crysis.

Glad I chose it over the black brushed Aluminum version which shows fingerprints. No finger prints at all on mine.

Battery sits flush.

Ive calibrated the battery and tested it extensively. I get 7 hours using Power saving mode and 40% brightness while web browsing using Google Chrome (2-3 tabs open). Bluetooth off. Using the same settings I get 5 hours of continuous SD Youtube playback in 1 Chrome tab.

IMPORTANT. With the latest Adobe Flash Player 10.2, 1080p videos play back very smoothly on Super Performance mode. Plays back smoothly on High Performance mode too with very minor and infrequent stutter. Tested using the 1080p versions of the Big Buck Bunny animation, Battle: LA and Avatar trailers. 360p videos playback fine on all modes.

Large trackpad with grooved scrolling

Cons: Expensive. I bought this strictly for its looks and claimed battery life.

Chiclet keyboard doesnt always register keys. Upper edges of keys dont always register when pressed especially when pressed lightly. Most of the time they do register.

Glossy screen. I dont mind at all.

Camera cannot be shut off. Only the shutter can be closed. Still consumes battery. My older Asus netbook could turn it off in the BIOS and through Windows.

Eee logo on the inside bezel. It is possibly the worst designed logo in history. Makes this high end netbook look like a childs toy.

Windows 7 Starter is garbage and is bundled with a lot of bloatware. Either uninstall them or reformat using a better version of Windows 7.

Other Thoughts: All the cons I have stated are things that I simply do not care about. They do not affect my productivity to a degree that I would even care and I am usually the one to complain about things and nitpick. I think the battery life and beauty of this netbook outweigh all the cons many times over.

In fact, if it werent for the high price tag and horrendous Eee logo, I would probably have given this a 5/5 rating.

This Eee logo has been plaguing the Asus netbook lineup for the longest time and is probably the reason so many people are drawn to Acers lineup.

As a human being, I despise the person who designed the logo and the person who approved of its design.

I would definitely recommend this netbook but only after looking for cheaper alternatives.

5 out of 5 eggsNice little machine

Pros: Powerful little machine.
USB 3.0
Wireless N
Gigabit Ethernet
These are all the new popular standards
Powerful two core Atom
Lots of storage for such a little guy
Built in Asus Cloud Computing OS for quick boot and web surfing
USB charging, because I don't always remeber my charger but I have a USB charger that supplements nicely.
Bluetooth 3.0

Cons: 1 RAM slot which isn't too bad considering 32-bit OS can only use 2 GB anyway.
Windows 7 Starter, again not a big con since it is a netbook and Starter can run just fine off 1 Gig RAM.
Nothing I thought worth losing and egg over.

Other Thoughts: Great computer and works perfectly for what I use it for. I have a desktop at home with all the programs and files I need and I use this to log in remotely to my home computer.
Syncabls desktop is a cool program that comes with the netbook but I prefer to use Mesh from Microsoft Live.
I haven't gotten around to testing it out but aparently there is 500Gigs of storage on the Asus Cloud for backups, I haven't needed it since there is nothing important on the Netbook.
I am just looking to throw a SSD and an upgraded stick of RAM in it to speed it up and it should be good to go.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome!

Pros: I was at first hesitant to buy this because it was "recertified" and some people had given bad reviews because the battery was DOA. I'm glad I wasn't -- recertified just means it didn't pass the initial QC and so it went back and whatever was lacking was corrected. Usually it is a chipped cased or something...For this price, this model is hard to beat. It is super light, the aluminum chassis is sexy and I have not had any problems with it at all. I installed a clean copy of windows 7 to remove the windows 7 starter and put in 2gb ram and this baby is running smooth!

Cons: The trackpad is a little stiff but that not really as big a problem as some might make it out to be.

Other Thoughts: Make sure you go to the asus site to download whatever drivers you need for this model if you decide to do a clean windows install. I also recommend downloading Driver Agent through Asus.
