4 out of 5 eggsBeast of a laptop, but a little outdated now

Pros: Great laptop! Most powerful computer I've ever owned. Entry price seemed high, but there is so much I can use this for and it doesn't seem to slow down much. Some tasks I do are:

Virtualized labs when I'm studying for a certification exam or testing something for work
Occaisional gaming (light FPS, mostly strategy and racing), graphics on high
Video conversion

Performs all of this without much of a hitch!

Cons: It's pretty heavy, but I'm big, so no worries. The power brick is huge! Not many backpacks out there that will fit this monstrosity!

Hard to upgrade key components (memory/GPU/CPU) due to hardware limitations.

Other Thoughts: Never had a problem with it. My setup:

Windows 7 ultimate x64
115 OCZ Vertex 2 SSD (OS drive) (upgrade)
Samsung Spinpoint 1TB HDD (data drive) (upgrade)
Plantronics 777 Headset

Always loved ASUS products! Keep up the good work!

4 out of 5 eggsGGGGGgggggreat Laptop, Horrible Keyboard

Pros: - Plays Everythinggggggggggg
- Very Fast

Cons: KEYBOARD

Other Thoughts: This is one of the most powerful laptops I ever owned, but the keyboard is pretty bad. I owned another Asus laptop and after about a year, several keys stopped respondingggg and it's been over a year since I owned this one, and now my GGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGgggggggggggggggggggg key has issues, it won't detect it if I push down on it unless I'm very hard with it, it's very annoyinggggggggggggggg.

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic

Pros: With the backlit keyboard, speakers, and resolution this thing is a gamers paradise.

Fantastic for everything I need it for and gaming (It runs Crysis 2, Portal 2 beautifully, and anything else I throw at it.)

Cons: Low battery Life - as awesomeness requires power.

Other Thoughts: I am glad that I invested in it as the only thing I have noticed being a problem is the battery life, keeping it plugged in while playing is a must.. but I do not mind that to much.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Buy

Pros: The Specs obviously.

Very sharp 1080p display.

I play a lot of games on Steam, and this can handle every one of them without a problem.

With my most demanding game I own being Crysis, realistically I get anywhere from 25-40 FPS at 720p with a mixture of high and ultra high settings, Crysis 2 I get a solid 60 FPS on advanced settings at 720p.

But then theres games like garry's mod or any other HL2 mod, where I can get 100+ sometimes even 200+ FPS completely maxed out at 1920x1080.

I get these results while overclocking - see other thoughts for details.

Cons: None too serious, except the keyboard wasn't very responsive until I uninstalled the touchpad software, and disabled it in bios.

So that leaves me without a touchpad, but I don't use it anyway so it didn't affect my rating.

Other Thoughts: This thing was meant to be overclocked, with its cooling system and all.

I can run it at these specs without it over heating.

Core Clock - @800
Shader Clock - @1600
Memory Clock - @1480

While the default is set to:

@675
@1350
@1250

Thats a good 18-20% increase.

I use MSI Afterburner, but you can just as easily use the tools already available in the nvidia control panel.

And just a warning, the "twin turbo mode" button doesn't help boost performance in anything i've used except some java applications, it actually hurts performance in all the games I tried it with, but the CPU automatically boosts itself in intensive loads anyway.

5 out of 5 eggsLove it

Pros: I am a Vanilla WOW player, I have to say I am seeing and hearing things in the game that are totaly new. I run the system on 2 different 27" screens tied in with the G15 keyboard and the Cataclysm Steel series mouse. I have no lag or d/c issues now. I have been a desktop pc guy for years and this is my first laptop, This thing has made me a fan of a good laptop.

Cons: All the usb ports and vid2o ports are on the sides. With having everthing tied into the laptop I knock out the usb plugs all the time. Wish they made a docking staion with this.

Other Thoughts: Stick with the Nvidia card. Found out from a friend that has the same laptop but with the AMD card and it over heats all the time.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome Choice

Pros: The hardware specs are complete overkill which is why I bought it just like any geek out there upgrades their computers more than they need. Great price for what you are paying for definitely recommend this for hardcore gamers. Just bought crysis 2 and can play it no lag on extreme graphics. Love this laptop

Cons: obviously its bulky and wont fit well in most backpacks but thats about it.

Other Thoughts: awesome price for an awesome laptop. LOVE ASUS!!

4 out of 5 eggsMobile Powerhouse.

Pros: Very fast and reliable. Very good cooling. > NUMBERPAD <

The power supply seconds as a deadly weapon with at least five feet of reach should you need to protect yourself.

Cons: Bloatware, Bloatware, and Bloatware.

Other Thoughts: This is a great laptop. I can't really consider the battery life, weight, and size belonging in the list of cons since the computer is what it is, and it eats babies. Just make sure you are buying a large enough laptop bag before you buy one.

I hate bloatware, I really, really hate bloatware. There is bloatware. If you hate bloatware as much as I do, you will be compelled to do a clean install before you do anything else with the machine. It seems all laptop manufactures do this, but I'm killing an egg for it anyway on an otherwise awesome laptop. Because I hate it so much.

4 out of 5 eggsAwesome...except for one thing

Pros: Awesome laptop. Best bang for the buck. It does everything just as well as a high end desktop.

Cons: The only issue I have had is it random shuts off during game play. I thought it might be an issue with heat but the cpu and gpu run within heat specifications. Apparently this isn't an isolated issue. I have found several people in forums complaining about the same problem. I have heard some Seagate hybrid 500gig 7200 drives have some issues with power saving. There is a firmware update available to fix this. I am not sure if this is the real reason for the random shut offs. I have also wondered about the twin turbo mode and how much it overclocks the processor. Unstable overclocks could cause random shutdowns as well. I will keep looking into the issue to see if this is a fix before I decide to RMA.

Other Thoughts: I think this is something the manufacture should address since it is happening to other people as well.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome

Pros: The display is crystal and vibrant. It runs just about any game I have flawlessly. Finish is matte and rubbery, has that protective case feel, which I like. This had just about everything I wanted in a new laptop, and am completely satified with it.

Cons: - overloaded with bloatware, that most users wouldn't use or want. Reinstall of windows takes care of that.
- Back exhaust vents get hot during heavy loads, nothing major like scalding but have to be aware of the air flow - goes from back to front and don't block any vents.
- A little on the heavy side, but I'm a bigger guy so it's not much of an issue, but the wife can't handle it on her legs for extended periods of time.

Other Thoughts: - Little more than I wanted to spend at the time, but am satified with the laptop so far.
