4 out of 5 eggsI think it is great

Pros: This is the only netbook I could find with a HDMI out in this price range. I uninstalled all of the applications I would not be using and defragged. I only use this netbook for browsing the web, listening to music, and watching movies, so for that it works very well. I intended on upgrading to more RAM, but haven't really felt the need to.

Cons: It does get pretty hot...but I don't keep it on my lap much. Also, the battery life isn't as long as I've seen on other netbooks, but the HDMI out made it worth it for me.

Other Thoughts: With a 250gig HDD I can keep my entire music library with me wherever I go. When I go over to friends' houses I can connect to their stereo and TV's via HDMI which is a really big plus. It's like having a mobile media center. This was a great alternative to an expensive, limited tablet.

2 out of 5 eggsSlow and crashes with flash

Pros: It runs 720p and 1080p videos without any problems. Be sure to upgrade the memory to 2 GB. The on board HDMI makes it great for connecting to an HDTV.

Cons: CPU is slower than most Atom procs. This also slows down the on board video which is pretty decent. I tried to run a simple RC flight sim called Clearview and I could not get higher than 22 FPS. Also this PC crashes when playing flash movies/videos if you come out of hibernation. I tried reinstalling/updates the drivers and bios to no avail..Battery life is short compared to Atom based machines.

Other Thoughts: Waste of cash. Should have got another Atom based machine.

3 out of 5 eggsDont put all your "eggs" in one basket!

Pros: +The netbook is very appealing physically, matte screen makes outdoor use possible. Chiclet keyboard is superior to many similar sized products. Scratch proof bottom with only a few finger-print magnet (glossy) surfaces.

+The HDMI port on a netbook is awesome, and was almost unheard of prior to this model.

+The 1.2Ghz Nile single processor/ Radeon HD4250 match up are definitely on par with 1.6Ghz single processor Intel Atom/on-board graphics. AMD definitely wins in the HD video category because of the graphics card.

**ESSENTIAL get the proper video codecs so processing is offloaded onto graphics. I Recommend K-Lite Codec Pack(free download online)

+ASUS includes 500GB of web space which is definitely a plus.

+Newegg support is exceptional

NOTE: My review is based on 1 week w/1GB RAM, 1 week w/2GB (Win7 Starter) & then 2 weeks w/full 4GB(Samsung). Plan on upgrading to atleast 2GB to get proper performance out of the netbook. Note: O.S. will need upgrading for

Cons: -Product runs SUPER hot to the point that it is uncomfortable on the lap. Vent on the left side blows out heat while lacking proper air circulation.

-Bloatware. Refer to a guide when it comes to removing software which is optional, as some should definitely be kept i.e. Super Hybrid Engine.

-5400RPM drive is slow, and you might end up with a "ticker"... which is a very annoying start/stop noise that is usually unnoticeable.

Asus has some seriously quality assurance issues, and the reviews below mine will go to show you that I am not the only one who got not ONE but TWO defective products!!

I consider myself an enthusiast as well as an expert when it comes to computers in general. That being said, I am not willing to sacrifice my warranty by ripping through the "void sticker". Otherwise the original issue I will note below would have been long fixed by hooking up the 2.5"hard drive to my desktop(s) and isolating the corrupt sector(s) or multi-boot problem.

Other Thoughts: Purchased this and 4GB Samsung RAM being aware that Starter only supports 2GB, I purchase the Windows 7:Home Premium "upgrade"(50% cheaper) and things start going awry..

The Disk is partitioned into 4 spaces:
~100GB:SYSTEM (85GB free)
~120GB:PRIMARY (empty)
~20GB: RECOVERY
~20GB: "EFI" DISK
First I installed 64 bit version, Install went flawless. Ran surprisingly smooth. Unfortunately the embedded graphics driver is not 100% compatible, anyone who knows their laptops knows that embedded notebook GPUs should always use specified drivers. Though to myself: No big deal, Ill still get 3.5GB RAM out of 32 bit version.

So I proceeded to install 32bit but since I have an "upgrade" edition, I must do a system restore first. BUT upon hitting "begin" the corrupt sys restore crashes and so the backup I saved were also corrupt.

Called ASUS Support, long story short they refer me to the online store for a restore CD, neglecting to mention it costs $50.

Suffice to say Neweg

3 out of 5 eggspretty okay..

Pros: -Takes 4gb of ram (windows x64)
-HDMI output at full 1080p
-somewhat fast once you customize windows to not hog resources
-twice as fast running win 7 x64 with 4gb ram than when I first booted up with win 7 starter with 1gb ram

Cons: -Win 7 starter was slow, over cluttered with pre-loaded crapware.
-Can't find some x64 drivers for full keyboard hotkey support
-asus website is terrible, and sometimes doesn't even work. even in IE.

Other Thoughts: wish their was more support for windows 7 x64.

1 out of 5 eggsTwice shy

Pros: Light weight, that's about it.

Cons: On the first unit shipped the wireless lan control did not work.

It was replaced with one that has a constant annoying buzz from the fan.

Feels a bit flimsy.

The shift key on the right side is tiny, should be as big as the one on the left side of the keyboard.

Other Thoughts: This is very inconvenient. We have been shipped (2) defective units in a row. We need this for an upcoming trip so I will have to buy another unit. It probably won't be an Asus.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great

Pros: Works beautifully. I don't think it could have fulfilled my expectations any more completely. Runs full screen video without an annoying level of skipping, its portable, and as long as you manage only a few processes at a time the lowest processor power setting will be effective for processing time.

Cons: Keyboard shortcuts are useful, however a little over-complex and sometimes slow to respond.

Other Thoughts: This thing pretty much kicks kiester in every sense of what its supposed to do. Don't expect the capabilities of a custom desktop and she will not disappoint.

4 out of 5 eggsMuch Better

Pros: I added 4gig to this machine and it really goes. Setup was quick and easy. Really like the speed while browsing the internet. Video looks great.

Cons: The keyboard is small and my big fingers are going to have to get used to it. I hear battery life isn't as good as some but won't be able to report on this for a few weeks on my experience. Sucks that Window 7 starter doesn't allow any type of background besides the standard backgrounds.

Other Thoughts: I was initially frustrated with this computer as the first one I rcvd from Newegg was defective but I returned it and got my new one within a week. I'm very happy with the service of Newegg because of this.

1 out of 5 eggsFrustrated

Pros: It booted quickly

Cons: One third of the screen on the right side is completely white and doesn't change. I'm working with only 2/3 of a screen. Called ASUS support and they walked me thru a few things but nothing worked. They are having me reinstall the OS and then try again but it doesn't seem to be working.

Other Thoughts: I have heard many good reviews about this computer and I want to give it a chance. I was so looking forward to getting it that when this happend to me right out of the box it was a huge letdown. Will be contacting newegg asap and hopefully they can resolve this for me. If so - then I hope to come back here with a better review.

4 out of 5 eggsExactly what we were looking for

Pros: Functions exactly as expected. Light weight compact so my wife can use it anywhere in the house she wishes. Not the most powerful thing, but it is not supposed to be so that is fine by me.

Cons: Had a screen failure after a few weeks (it happens to the best companies) But when i sent it back to ASUS they tried to tell me it was due to physical damage. Which it was not. After a bit of back and forth they covered it under warranty. I am going to give ASUS the benefit of the doubt here and say they got my netbook mixed up with someone else.

Other Thoughts: I have always used ASUS products. They make a very good product. I just hope I do not run into the same issue again if I need to return something.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat

Pros: Matte screen. This is a rare thing, it means you will be able to see something on the screen when you are outdoor (ie : no reflections). HDMI output. Independent gpu so you can do better things, no lag watching Lord of the rings 1080P (18GB) or any others 1080p or 720p mkv (please use mpc-hc who has DVXA support). Only cra**y HD on youtube lag (let's accuse adobe flash player, i have even used 10.2 beta)

Cons: Battery life... well 5h30 if you only surf with wireless. 3h00 if you watch 1080p mkv. I knew it before i buy this netbook but I wanted something to handle great video quality.
Junk if you keep windows starter 7 and asus bloatware. I have installed a fresh windows 7 home premium (installed from usb flash drive).
1gb memory... well pretty standard, i have installed a 4gb (40$ca). But i must admit that windows 7 deals great with 1gb memory there was always some free memory. But when you have 4gb Windows 7 uses it very well.

Other Thoughts: Great for that price (297$CA).
I wanted something cheap and never thought that for that price i could do so much things. Well you can't really play video games but that's not a notebook/netbook you should buy if you want to play big 3D Games.
