1 out of 5 eggsHorribly flawed.

Pros: Started off with decent battery life.

At the time was a near top of the line laptop

Not too heavy

Good screen

Nice Keyboard

Cons: The power pin.

The power pin on this laptop breaks. All the time. And will forever. Unless you want to modify your laptop with third party parts, the power pin will always break. In my three years of owenership, it has broken four times. You will have to fight tooth and nail with ASUS to get them to fix it, and 99% of the time it will be out of your pocket because the power pin is connected to the motherboard, so the entire motherboard has to be replaced.

It is a faulty model and should be avoided at all costs.

Also, after a few years of use, the battery life has been to reduced to about 15 minutes. Extremely low.

Do not buy this laptop.

Other Thoughts: If this didn't have the hardware issues it has, it would be a nice laptop that could be used for quite a long time. Unfortunately without a power pin, it instantly becomes a paper weight.

2 out of 5 eggsYou tell if it is worth it

Pros: powerful
fast
good gpu at the time
cheap when i bought it (1150 $ CA)
backlit keyboard
HD screen
mat black, no flashy light
newegg fast shipping and service, as usual

Cons: power connector pin broke after 1 month
hdd stopped working after 4 months
camera stopped working after 6 months
flash card reader worked on and off (until i found a real good driver for it: (6.2.8400.28124) that is not on asus site)
computer started crashing (gpu) while gaming after 2 years
more a desktop replacement laptop (heavy, bulky)
connection on the right side (where the mouse goes)
more a portable desktop than a laptop (heavy, bulky)
really bad sound, cannot be use as a good music player. I always use headphones if good audio is needed.

Other Thoughts: I bought this laptop because i had a good price (1150$ca) and i knew that i was able to take care myself of the majority of known issues (power connector, hdd, ...)
I make this review just in case someone without expertise who is willing to purchase a reliable device would be informed. It is not a reliable laptop. Here is what i have done on it from day one, which is about 2 years ago.
I had to dissasembled the laptop many many times... for:

To solder a new AC DC jack to the mobo, which is solid and has not broken since.
To replace HDD for SSD, which is pretty simple...
To check the camera connection, which i found out was a mobo issue.
To repaste the GPU and CPU so it would not crash no more.
To add RAM. Most of the slot or easy to access, except for one which underneath the mobo.
To clean the fans from dust, since you cannot do it the good way from the outside.
I also bought a 90 degree connector so the cable would not be in the way no more.
AND not to mention all the time I have spent to find out solutions for these issues (going trough all kind of drivers, clean install of the system, programs, BIOS...)

Yes i know, it is warranty for one year, and i could have it replaced or repaired... to get another one with same issues? How long without it?... I felt more comfortable by doing it myself and fixing the issues for good.

Now, I would say that I have a reliable setup, and it is very fast and powerful. (2 SSD, 12gb ram) But for how long? Will I have to change the MOBO soon? who knows.... If i was buying such a laptop today, I would go for something else to save the hassle.

Hope my review will help someone.

4 out of 5 eggsASUS G Series Notebook

Pros: Very flexible with very good speed.

Cons: Since purchasing this notebook 04/11/11, I have had to have the DC Power Jack replaced by ASUS. If this had been a car a recall notice would have probably been issued. Now the warranty expires in April 2013. There is no doubt this will probably happen again.

Other Thoughts: Can the warranty be extended???

2 out of 5 eggsNice specs frequent fails

Pros: Lovely computer when it works, good graphics and speed. Handles the 3D games very well.
Lovely external design except for the power plug location.
Win 7 64bit 6 Gig RAM 1.5 Gig Video.

Cons: Delicate innards or something. This unit has failed to boot many many times. I've taken it in for the power mod fix. I've sent it in for a replacement motherboard and it still just quits working. So no matter how nice it runs, it only runs occasionally.
No, I will not buy another one.

Other Thoughts: This unit was quite obviously put on the market before its design and components were properly tested.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Laptop, Appalling Support.

Pros: Amazing performance, awesome styling, incredible 2 year warranty, with a 1 year ADW, which ASUS ups to 2 years when you register the unit with them. The screen protector inside the unit when you unbox it has a sticker on it that says that ASUS strives for 3-day turnaround on warranty issues.

Cons: Poor placement of the DC Power input - the cord is right where you want to put your mouse if you're right handed. Exhaust gets warm if it's blowing on you. Terrible warranty service.

Other Thoughts: It would have cost us around a grand to upgrade our desktop PC components to this spec (and we'd be saddled with 22" 1080p monitors) - for a (couple) hundred more, we got top of the line PCs that we can take with us. We actually bought three of them, so we can game together at the kitchen table.

Unfortunately, the warranty service is appallingly bad.

One of the three units had the DC+ power pin snap off inside the unit, such that it stuck inside the power pack when we unplugged it to mop the kitchen floor.

We dutifully got an RMA from ASUS, and shipped the unit off. Today is the 8th business day they've had it, and each time we call for a status update, we get a (wildly) different answer from the Level 1 Tech. We were promised an email from a supervisor within 24 hours after we raised a ruckus - and that email never came. We were transferred to a supervisor...and got a voice mail box. We left our contact information - and the call was not returned.

I'm so very not impre

5 out of 5 eggsPower Packed Laptop!

Pros: Asus quality all the way, backed by a 2 year parts/labor warranty. Well designed laptop, with state of the art cooling system. 2 separate heatsinks & fans for the cpu AND gpu units. 2 Massive exhaust vents on back of laptop. Very quiet to! Runs the first Crysis on all high settings at 30-40 fps, at 1920x1080p rez. At 1024x768 rez 50-65 fps on Crysis. Temp idles at 43-48, same on GPU. Under load GPU 75-80, CPU 65-73, and cools right down after full load. Excellent display, nice backlit keyboard. Intel Turbo auto clocks when needed, have seen cpu shoot from 1.7 to 3.1 Ghz stock.

Cons: Get a right angle adaptor plug for the power cord, on right side. Read many breaking dc jack off, have "grazed" the plug & jack with right hand coming off mouse going to keyboard. Jack on the back or back left side would of been better. Sound is a bit weak, dolby speakers would of been nice, but overrall excellent laptop all the way around! 1 year Accidental Warranty seems to be "1 claim per unit", so if you are prone to dropping, spilling, stepping on your laptop every month, they are not going to cover these accidents every time.

5 out of 5 eggsVery nice specs.

Pros: Excellent specs for a laptop. Handles games with ease at the default res of 1080p. Great cooling compared to previous generation Asus laptops and other laptops in general. The i7 automatically throttles up to 3.1Ghz or so on its own, they have a nice widget installed by default that has a bar and shows the clocks on a real time basis which is nice.

Cons: The design of the laptop regarding upgrades and repair is pretty involved. To get to the Hard Drive bays, you have to take off the keyboard and the touchpad, and then a LOT of screws, and then flip it over and take off the back. I've read to access the 2 ram slots that are filled by factory are even harder to reach (might be beneficial to look up a guide online just to see if you plan on upgrading parts). Luckily there is a 3rd ram slot under the keyboard that they leave open. So most likely, you may not ever need to reach the other two, unless you need more then 9GB ram. I think it will take 12GB max.
-Also would note the screen could be better put together. The G51 I had before this had a VERY solid lid with screen, this laptop, you can see a seam on the top of the laptop screen and it looks like you could pry it apart if you put a butter knife in there. Looks kind of low quality. The G51 did not have a seam that you could see like this.

Other Thoughts: I went from a G51 with a C2D/GTX260m to this G53 with a i7/GTX460m. The only differences really are the i7 power, and the upgraded 1080p res screen. Since my G51 had a native res of 720p, all games run about the same, only now we're at 1080p. I also put an Intel SSD in this machine and it really screams with the i7. The included mouse is a Razor "Abyssus". Seems like a run of the mill lower end gaming mouse with switchable DPI/Polling rate on the bottom of it. The backpack is a nice quality Targus bag, so its not too shabby.
I was a little surprised that the GTX460m was not all that much more powerful then the GTX260m (only a 2k difference in 3dMark), but all in all it was a good buy. The 1080p screen is very nice and very sharp with text/games ect. The power of the i7 is what I really like.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Machine

Pros: Fast, Runs cool, Backlit Keyboard, includes mouse and bag, quiet,

Cons: Placement of ports is slightly inconvenient if you're right handed, but not a deal-breaker.

Doesn't come with a new car

Other Thoughts: Played BFBC2 this morning on high settings in 1080p, it was beautiful.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat deal

Pros: Purchased for sons 16th birthday. He hasn't received it yet, but all reviews point to this thing being a powerhouse!

The backpack is really nice, and it does come with a mouse as well (not shown). The mouse is not a very good one. Still it's free, so you can't beat free.

Because of the free items, it does come double boxed, which is a good thing.

Cons: Newegg failed to mention this has a $100 rebate through March 31st. I discovered it searching the internet. It is an Asus "all resellers" rebate, so maybe Newegg only posts Newegg specific rebates.

Also, I hate that it was delivered and just left on our porch. A signature should be required for something of this value, not to mention it could be noted if it was delivered damaged.

Other Thoughts: $1289.99 (rebate included) is a smokin' deal for such a poweful laptop!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Laptop

Pros: Amazing specs for a laptop.
Played: Black Ops, BFBC2, Dead Space, Crysis, and Mirrors Edge on 1920x1080 with high settings and have very little to no lag at all.

Cons: Not really a con but it runs really hot but the exhausts fans spit the air out the back which is nice actually.

Heavy! But you kind of have to expect that from a laptop with the kind of power.

Other Thoughts: With the heat I have played the games listed above at work for 3+ hours and haven't experienced any slowdown. Overall it is a great laptop for the price and I would definitely recommend it to anyone.
