5 out of 5 eggsNetbook is a trooper

Pros: I've been using it at work as a "2nd" computer (I do lots of system admin/vpn stuff) and it works like a champ. The WinXP (as oppose to 7 starter) is great. Also has a card reader which is handy.

Cons: Only con for me is lack of usb ports - I count 2. Sometimes I need a third, so I have a little mini usb dongle. Also another nit pick is the combined mic/headphone jack. Everytime you plug it in it asks you what you plugged in :o) regardless of that, I still use it for listening to audio quite successfully, once you get used to the popup

Other Thoughts: EEE PCs are pretty cool.

1 out of 5 eggsRather pay more for a better one

Pros: cheapest price for the 1st quarter of 2011.

If you need a computer to operate the absolute minimal basics, then this works for you.

Cons: single core, "XP but not Win7", no cd-rom, poor graphic card- 1 resolution setting, poor sound-you hear it right away.
I regret buying this.

Other Thoughts: Title says it all. For $40-$50 more. 2x the speed, single 1.66 to dual core 1.66; Xp to Win7; "no cd-rom" to "with cd-rom"; better graphics, better sound.

4 out of 5 eggsAwesome little netbook

Pros: Great little netbook. very-lightweight with the 3 cell battery. the trackpad is amazing, it has multitouch and is the most responsive trackpad i have ever used. the screen is very bright due to the LED backlight and the vertical viewing angles are amazing. the keyboard has a good feel and the buttons are spaced well. the top is a matte rubberized finish that hides fingerprints and looks good.

Cons: only one headphone/mic combo jack, I would have prefered a seperate mic jack for use with standard PC headsets. The left and right click buttons are a little stiff and I prefer the 2 seperate button syle over the seesaw style that is used. the horizontal viewing angles on the screen are pretty bad, this causes problems with watching movies and awkward desk setups but won't be a problem for most people. runs a little warm and the fan is a tad on the noisy side when you run the netbook in turbo mode.

Other Thoughts: This is an average performing netbook with above average build quality. this was my first experience with an ASUS PC and I am impressed with the quality, it definately has the same or better quality than the best netbooks on the market inthis price range. Brand name components, a-DATA RAM, Hitachi HDD, realtek audio etc.

4 out of 5 eggsNice little box

Pros: Cheap, lightweight, Win XP, matter black finish.

Cons: Short battery life (only 3 cell), lots of preloaded bloat slows it down, one of said utilities is to indicate Caps Lock rather than a hardware light, recovery "partition" rather than DVD or ability to burn one.

Other Thoughts: As soon as I got it, I did a clean install of XP, wiping all the bloated utilities that come with it. Lightning fast boot afterwards!

The only utility I reinstalled was Super Hybrid Engine...lets you change power settings fast without having to do custom tweaks to the Windows power options.

I bought this to have a lightweight PC bring around with me.

Battery life is a paltry 2.5 hours at most, but blame that on the 3 cell battery, this is where I'm deducting 1 egg. I plan on upgrading to a 9 cell aftermarket that's on the cheap.

It's a great portable overall.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat buy for the cash

Pros: The size and simplicity alone is great for any college student.

Cons: Battery life ranges between 2-3 hrs but for the price, I'm not complaining

4 out of 5 eggsWorks Fine ... Not Very Powerful

Pros: Small, portable, cheap

Cons: Short battery life, low processing /video rendering power

Other Thoughts: I bought this laptop to show videos and PowerPoint presentations in my classes. It works fine most of the time, but videos over 240p don't do very well.

The battery life is VERY SHORT on the standard battery, only about 2-1/2 hours, not long enough for what I want to do. The better battery costs an arm and a leg as well!

This is not clear in the description, but to upgrade to 2GB ram, you have to buy a 2GB RAM STICK!!! This laptop only has 1 dimm slot, and the 1GB stick that I bought to add to the laptop did not have anywhere to go, so if you want to upgrade, buy a 2GB stick!

5 out of 5 eggssurprisingly good value

Pros: Low cost, light and compact, works well

Cons: Nothing wrong that I've discovered yet...

Other Thoughts: I suggest downloading Oracle Open Office suite (freeware) as a replacement for MSOffice. It works well, and does not demand much from memory/cpu resources. This netbook works well with my wireless network, and at very low total cost.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: low cost

Cons: a lot of unuseful softwares and my battery life is about 2 hours. i see other netbooks and they all have a longer battery lifetime than mine.

Other Thoughts: i have found a littel crack on it but it is really small one.

4 out of 5 eggsRecert Asus 1001pxb-bk301

Pros: Small and light. Startup was simple and quick. Im a mac user primarily and use xp at work. XP seems great on this, never used windows 7 so I cant compare. Keyboard is what I expected. I have big hands and have no problem using it. Wireless works well. Have yet to test battery life. Cheap.

Cons: Some other user mentioned this, but the track pad is not great. I tolerate it, but am not too picky considering i just use this for studying, note taking, and light web browsing. I might buy a mouse. Some mild bloatware. Start up a little slow, still need to play around with misconfig.

Other Thoughts: Great deal. No technical problems. Use this for studying, note taking, emailing. Tired of lugging my heavy macbook when im on the go. I knew about netbooks, but never really expected them to work as well as this. This is probably suitable for most people. Cant imagine why I would pay even 50 dollars more for a nicer one. Might load some linux distro. not sure yet. Will recommend this to my parents when they go to upgrade away from their desktop.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Gift

Pros: I love how it looks. The matte black makes it look beastly even though it's small.

The small size is awesome. Great battery life and such. I was surprised at how quickly it runs, especially after you uninstall or turn off all the added services they stick on.

Great buy if you need something for school or chatting with people.

Cons: Comes with a bunch of silly ASUS software and tons of not needed junk loading on startup. Run msconfig and disable most if not all of it and this thing boots in 10 seconds flat.

Keys are kinda loud.

Make sure to use a wireless mouse with it as the track pad/button are not the greatest.

Camera isn't the greatest, it lags a lot...but it gets the job done.

Other Thoughts: Very cheap for the quality you get. I would definitely buy again, but this is a gift for xmas. Might have to get another one for myself.
