2 out of 5 eggsGamble

Pros: When it worked, everything worked great.

Cons: I rarley used this after purchase. Desktop p/c was recently in for repairs and I started using this laptop more. The more often I used it, the more problems I had. Bsod's, mem failures, and eventually the gpu fried.

I would say do not buy this. I was attracted to it for the gpu/ optimus technology for moderate gaming. It worked great for about 1 hour intervals. If you use it much longer than that, you will get bsod and/or fry your gpu.

It was 4 days outside of Asus's manufacture warranty. They basically said too bad so sad. Luckily I had the extended warranty and am getting a refund.

If you buy this laptop, a coolerpad is absolutley necessary along with crossed fingers.

Other Thoughts: I never had problems with the wifi, but listen to other people's reviews about bsod and overheating.

This is a poorly made asus product, which is sad because I love asus.

P.S.
The moderate gaming I was doing was LoL on mid settings (not very graphically intensive) which is when the GPU ate dirt!

Garbage laptop!

4 out of 5 eggsPerfect for my needs

Pros: Fast start-up and runs everything I want so far, including "Witcher 2" (which actually only works thanks to the 33% "Turbo-boost" in processing power). This is mostly for school, streaming video, and occasional gaming and thus far I have yet to be disappointed. Also occasionally used to stream video to my Toshiba television via HDMI, works beautifully. I love the size/weight; the screen seemed small at first but only because I was using a 21" desktop monitor, and now that I've adjusted its fine. But at just over 4.5 lbs it doesn't make a noticeable difference to what I'm already carrying around (I usually have to double-check my bag when leaving campus because I honestly can't tell if I have it or not just from the weight of my bag). I'm also a fan of the Mac-style keyboard and touchpad (as well as the aluminum case), which I can have for half the price of an actual Macbook Pro. Too bad Asus couldn't throw in the OS as well.

Cons: Graphically intense games do occasionally die whether the processing boost is on or not, but this is more likely an issue with Windows than the machine. I've experienced a few complete freezes (maybe one every 2 or 3 weeks, nothing new to any Windows user really) and 1 or 2 blue screens of death in six months, but none of the constant problems some people have reported. My biggest issue is with the the built-in wifi controller turning off wifi capabalities. I've gotten in the habit of turning it off as soon as I come back from a shutdown or restart. I'm sure there's a way to disable it permanently but I'm too lazy to figure it out. Also not thrilled with the partitions (116G of the 500 for ALL windows and program files? seriously?), also been too lazy to fix that.

Other Thoughts: Reading some of the other reviews I really think I lucked out with this machine. I knew buying re-certified was a gamble, but I researched the issue thoroughly beforehand and knew there was about a 50/50 chance I'd be sending it back, but decided it was worth it since I could just have Newegg send me another and try again. Also splurged on the extended warranty since this is a recert; even if I don't have to use it still a worthwhile investment, saving me over $300 on what amounts to a brand-new laptop.

1 out of 5 eggsMore problems than any computer is worth!

Pros: I cannot find one positive thing to say about this laptop except that perhaps in theory the parts are decent.

Cons: Wireless card came non-functioning and had to be replaced out of the box. Hard drive crashes about every hour. The computer has but only one fan on the CPU, so that it overheats and Blue Screens. I been using ASUS parts for four or five years, but this computer is not worth the metal it was made on. I figured that re-install of a custom Windows 7 would perhaps fix the Blue Screen of Death, well I was wrong. I hate this computer I want to return it, but am stuck with it. DO NOT BUY!

Other Thoughts: DO NOT BUY!

1 out of 5 eggsPotentially Great computer...Potentially

Pros: Great computer specs. Crazy price due to the recertification.

Cons: Now I know why it's priced so low. It has a high failure rate. Blue screen of deaths, freezes up, wireless is spotty. Flimsy keyboard (if that even matters).

Other Thoughts: RMAed twice before I gave up and got a refund. I guess if you want to play the lottery go ahead and get it, but if you want to save yourself the hassle either get a new one or a different asus. Asus makes awesome computers but this is not one of them.

Glad I ordered this through newegg as their customer service is great as always and had no problem doing the RMAs.

4 out of 5 eggsDecent Comp with Minor Issues

Pros: Perfect size for me, functions pretty good, and is overall what I expected.

Cons: Computer does run hot (especially during gaming) so I did buy a chill mat to keep it from overheating and that seems to have solved that issue, the wireless is constantly disabling itself which is aggravating for a gamer like myself to be in the middle of something and lose internet so I am looking into a new one.

Other Thoughts: Overall, it is great for the price. There are a few minor issues with it, but nothing that a few little tweaks and changes won't fix.

1 out of 5 eggsDisappointed.

Pros: Looks sleek. Has the HDMI out. 500GB Hard Drive.

Cons: In the 45 or so days of owning this computer i have experienced system failures and blue screens well over a dozen times. Not too reliable. Im disappointed. :( Also the wifi drops every 20 mins like clockwork and needs to have troubleshooting done every time.

Other Thoughts: Buy something else.
