5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Padtop

Pros: Right price. Great speed.

Cons: A little challenging to navigate using touch. May be better with Windows 8.

1 out of 5 eggspoor touch screen interface

Pros: Full OS on a tablet

Cons: Bad touch screen and not really enough juice to run a full OS. Battery life is abysmal.

The touch screen courser randomly shoots all over the place. it especially likes to hang out in the top right corner and close applications that you are using. Extremely annoying.

MS bluetooth keyboard broke after a couple of uses and I had to buy a much better replacement logitech.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

I apologize for the issues that you are having with your touch screen. Has it always been behaving like this, or did this issue recently start coming about? I would try to do a factory reset on the device, to make sure there is nothing wrong with the hardware. If that doesn’t work, please e-mail me at cl-tien@asus.com. I’ll be more than happy to provide assistance.

Best Regards,

Tien

5 out of 5 eggsExactly what it should be...

Pros: The Ep121 packs a lot of bang for the buck, with the I5 processor it can handle a fairly hefty load. The unit works very well and is very practical and effective for college.

Cons: First unit I received had an issue with a heat sensor for the cooling fans and as such the fan would run at full blast the whole time. Made the unit run cooler but was very loud and I ended up RMAing the unit.

Other Thoughts: If you are looking for a tablet that can handle more than the average tablet or even basic laptops this is the unit for you.

2 out of 5 eggswouldn't buy it again

Pros: It Runs at a good clip and has reasonable horsepower. The build quality is sturdy. Windows has its pluses

Cons: Simply put, windows is not ready for a touch device. l plan to upgrade to wins when possible.

I'm no fan of apple, but live found the iPad to be much more Usable. Simply writing this review, as short as it is is proving to be a chore on this device.

Other Thoughts: have buyer's remorse and have since l bought this thing. Save some money and buy an iPad unless you're an artist. This may be a good device if that is your intended use.

1 out of 5 eggsPoor ASUS customer service!

Pros: Fast, portable, plenty on memory, Windows 7 64bit on a tablet.
I was able to take the tablet to school and take hand written notes instead of carrying diffrent notebooks for diffrent classes.
The pretective case it comes with.

Cons: Battery life is not that great, but I already knew that before my purchase (was worth the comprimise).

Other Thoughts: I was VERY happy with my purchase until the SSD failed. I was a little upset after that.
Now that I have to deal with ASUS tech support it has become a horrible nightmare. Was given the wrong facility address to ship the tablet to, and now the device cannot be located.
I have had many great ASUS products, but never had to deal with tech support till now. :(

4 out of 5 eggsCould be better

Pros: The tablet idea is great and to have Windows running on it makes it even better, since everything you do on a regular computer can be done on the tablet. The tablet has 2 USB ports, DVI and a SD, MMC ports. The tablet has great features and love the tablet feel and look.

Cons: Now, the drawback is the engineering, tech support and support from Asus directly. After few days of use, the headphone jack stopped working in stereo and played only mono. When you touched the screen the sounds went mute completely. Called tech support and they say to ship the tablet, at my own expense of course.

And after the sound was not working, the back cover started to make cracking sounds, like it was not settled in properly. The tablet never dropped and it’s always stored away in a drawer when not in use and I am the only user, meaning the tablet has only design flaws.

Two weeks later, the tablet came back and the first thing I did was to test the sound to only be surprised, it was not fixed and the cover never fixed. Call tech support again and they wanted me to ship it to their warranty service center in Texas.

Below are the home fix you can do. You can find all the tools at Home Depot.

Other Thoughts: Open the cover gently. Look at where the headphone jack is, and roll in the electric tape some foam and slide it between the two boards. Make sure not to have the board lifting too much once the foam is under, otherwise you will create a stress point in the board and with time it will break. Do this, until that when you push on the top board it is not moving anymore. For the cover, use small strip of the mounting tape and put it inside on the edge where the cover meet the tablet. Put it all the way around except on the side where the USB ports are, so that if you need to reopen the tablet you can always do it.

When the pen is out of the tablet, there is a sound of metal against metal. When the cover is open, remove the 3 screws holding the pen housing. Then remove the spring and the metal bar and put masking tape on the bar. I found out the masking tape prevent the spring from not functioning or getting stuck compare to other tapes.

By doing this, the design flaws have been fix

3 out of 5 eggsGood, not great

Pros: Good performance, nice display. I haven't had this tablet long enough to put it through its paces, but so far it seems to perform well for my needs.

Cons: This tablet loses one start for build quality and one star for the touch interface. The overall build looks ok, but ASUS needs to put more thought and design into the various buttons, connectors and the stylus dock. The two USB connectors are covered by little plastic covers that you have to pry open with your fingernails. At first I thought I was doing something wrong because it can take a bit of work to open them up. The volume rocker seems flimsy and doesn't fully return to a neutral position after a push - just seems flimsy. The HDMI port seemed pretty tight and required some force to seat an adapter, but that might be a problem with the adapter, not the port. The stylus dock requires you to push the stylus deep into the dock before it fully closes. Seemed like an afterthought to the whole design.

The touch interface works for basic work but the text entry interface needs some work. While handwriting recognition works pretty well, the on-screen keyboard is hit and miss.

Other Thoughts: More about the keyboard UI: Depending on where you are entering text, you will get a different keyboard UI. Usually this keyboard does not give you any feedback about when a key is successfully pressed so you have to keep checking back to where the text is appearing to make sure your key press was detected. This may be a Microsoft issue but the experience reflects negatively on the whole ASUS tablet package.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid Machine

Pros: I've used this for the past semester in college and it's made taking notes amazing clean and simple. That is my favorite part about it. I'm in chemical engineering so i can't just take notes with a keyboard so using the stylus on this is a necessity and it responds perfectly to the pen touch. It's as fast as it needs to be for running office type software. I'm a gamer and am sad this doesnt play them a bit better, but it wasn't designed for them so that's not a con. As a tablet it is excellent.

Cons: the 'z' key on the separate keyboard keeps coming off. but warranty will fix that. so basically if that's the worst that i can say about this machine then I'm 100% happy. :)

Other Thoughts: I run MS Office, Engineering applications and photoshop. It does everything well (but graphic intensive games).

1 out of 5 eggsDO NOT BUY THIS UNIT!!!!!!

Pros: Design and speed

Cons: ASUS Service is the worst! For one thing they DO NOT pay for shipping when the unit has to be serviced and it WILL NEED service. My unit has been to the service center in CA twice now and it not even a year old!. First issue was the screen burn issue, when they made the screens they did not do it right and after time you will see yellow blobs on the display.

When it came back from service it ran like you know what, 15 minutes to boot up and then it would crash constantly. All ASUS support would say it to restore the unit with the DVD's. I did this six or seven times and got fed up. I was forced to send the unit back at my own expense again. When it came back from service it ran good but now there is a metal part/foil sticking out of the top of the body! You would need to be a complete idiot to not see this when you reassembled this. The paper work stated that they replaced the mother board.

Other Thoughts: And to boot now the Windows OS is reporting that the product ID is invalid. I contacted ASUS support AGAIN and they told me to restore the unit!!!!!! All I need is a valid product ID\CD key from them to resolve the issue THAT IT DID NOT HAVE WHEN I SENT IT TO THEM and they want me to restore the unit! I reported them to Microsoft fraud department! DO NOT BUY ASUS PRODUCTS!!!! You have been warned.
