5 out of 5 eggsHigh Performance Desktop in a Mobile package

Pros: -Extremely powerful computer for a laptop
-Very well designed and built
-Runs extremely cool and quiet thanks to a very well designed cooling system.
-LCD image quality and viewing angle are outstanding with the 3DE matte screen.
-Keyboard back lite is very nice feature
-Outer skin "rubberized" material is very cool.

Cons: Nothing significant

-I installed the Windows 7 Ultimate Anytime Upgrade and had to re-install several of the Laptop specific software packages to get the special function keys to work again. Asus has a built-in software management tool that informs you of the status of each package and allows you to re-install software if needed, no CD or other media needed. This little app should make it easier for those less experienced users looking to perform the upgrade. Would have preferred that an upgrade from Windows 7 Home Premium -> Ultimate didn't require this, but really not a big deal for the consumer this product is designed for.

-As others mentioned, it would be nice if the LCD could tilt back just a little bit further, but not a big deal at all. I have a downward tilted laptop stand. I would recommend a flat stand or thick book instead, if you need the laptop on something, when it's on your desk.

Other Thoughts: I have been using this as my main workstation with an attached 24" LCD via HDMI for a couple months now. The 17" 1080p screen makes a great second monitor with this configuration. Works out well when I need to travel, I can just take my whole "workstation" with me. This is a well built unit meeting Asus exceptional quality standards. I have been buying Asus products for over 15 years - You just can't go wrong with an Asus product. I have no doubt that some of the other reviewers did have some issues with their laptops being DOA or messed at time of purchase, these things happen when you deal in high volume. I would say that this item is of such high quality it's worth it to just get it replaced if you run into an issue. This is why I buy from New Egg - Fast Shipping and No Hassle returns if you ever have an issue. I have only had one product issue in years of purchases. New Egg replaced it promptly - no hassle.

1 out of 5 eggsBEWARE - NEVER BUY ASUS

Pros: Nice specs

Cons: The worst customer service and tech support I have ever dealt with, and I have been in the IT field for over 16 years.

Other Thoughts: The true test of a company is not when things work, but how they deal with it when things go wrong.

They don't give enough space to go into detail, but after 4 RMA's I am once again having issues with this laptop! The mouse pad is still not working, which was my original complaint with this machine before the kept returning it to me with more and more issues. I finally had enough of this! I called tech support so I could just get the part and repair this thing at my own expense and sell it so I would never have to deal with ASUS ever again. After waiting on the phone over a half hour at 11:30 at night I get this genius who couldn't even supply me with a part number for their own product! Her suggestion was to look for it myself!

5 out of 5 eggsLaptop win, asus not soo much.

Pros: I love this laptop, the i7 2630 is killer.
Graphics is best iv ever seen on a laptop
I love the finish and style
Lighted back keys (color is easy to change with simple mod, youtube it)

But the best feature of this laptop by far is the cooling. When using it on a desk or on my lap in bed the temperature is always constant when stressed, very impressive, a laptop that actually doesn't melt on your lap. The design is very smart, suck air through the keyboard and push out of back, make it so the bottom actually has no impact in cooling the components.

Cons: I bought it from staples, only because I could defer it no interest for a year, but the first one was a dud. Had drivers issues and blue screens out of the box related to the usb 3.0 drivers, could of fixed it, but for this much money I wasn't wasting time on it and got a second one. Second worked flawlessly except one thing, while updating the keyboard back light stopped working. Decided to email Asus support and also googled it. Seems all i had to do was un-install the Asus-atk package and re-install and all was fine, HOWEVER i was really disappointed at the Asus tech response. They said it might be a hardware malfunction and i should open a warranty claim, it was only 3 days old at the time?!?! Seriously I was considering bringing it back because it seems any asus support will be useless.

Other Thoughts: The Machine was too awesome to return and much cheaper then the alienware alternative. So I decided to keep it.

Also note mine is not 3D edition. Has all the same features except has 60hz screen, dvd drive, and no glasses. However was only 1500 tax in so it much cheaper then this 3d version.

5 out of 5 eggsVery Happy

Pros: Rock solid and very fast. Cooling system is off the chart, coolest running notebook I have ever seen.

Wasn't sure if I wanted the 3D rig or not, but the difference between this and the non 3D version was $90.. for the 3D Glasses, 120hz dispaly, and BluRay Burner.. certainly worth the $90, even if you dont use it much.

The 3D works much better than I expected.

Cons: In my case half of the features didn't work out of the box. The more bloatware I uninstalled the worse it got. I had to wipe it all and reinstall the OS fresh. Now it screams and has had no issues. Thi could be an issue for those without copies of various OS's to lay down in the event of problems.

heard people complain about the keyboard.. seems ok to me. I use external mouse and keyboard anyway..

Other Thoughts: I have a Lenovo W510 for work (17Q, 8gbram, FX880M video).. amazing machine. This Asus crushes it like a grape.

I searched and did my homework for months for this purchase, I knew what I wanted, and I waited for it to come in stock. It was worth every minute fo wait. I have played with the Alienware M17x.. it is nice. But this G73 is king of the hill.

5 out of 5 eggsThe Best Laptop Ever!

Pros: -i7 Quad Core CPU (updated Sandy Bridge chipset)
-1 TB total HD space (hybrid drives)
-Blu-ray BURNER (first laptop I've seen this on)
-Matte screen
-120 Hz screen (this is so sweet!)
-3D screen/glasses
-5 degree tapered keyboard for better typing (this makes a big difference for me as I am picky about keyboards)
-Geforce GTX 460M with 1.5 GB DDR5 VRAM
-Backlit keyboard
-Good sound for laptop (has a small woofer built in)
-USB 3.0 port
-only weighs 8 lbs (yes, this is a pro for me. my old laptop was 13 lbs.)
-This laptop runs cooler than laptops that have half the power.
-This laptop runs quiet, too.

Cons: These cons are all rather nitpicky, but I'll mention them anyway.

The screen doesn't angle back quite as much as I'd like. When at my desk, I use a laptop stand that pushes up the back of the laptop, and so the screen has a slight forward angle to it when on the stand. If the screen would swivel back just a tad more, it would be fine. Not enough to knock an egg.

Probably my biggest disappointment is the fact that the Atheros WiFi card only recognizes the 2.4 GHz channel and not the 5 GHz channel. I figured a laptop of this caliber wouldn't skimp in that area. Still not worth docking a whole egg though.

Another minor note is the full numeric keypad has a smaller "0" than a full keyboard. Again, I'm nitpicking here.

I wasn't a fan of the "chicklet" keyboard, but the more I use it, the more I am getting used to it.

Other Thoughts: The price is right on this laptop.

Comparison to my Alienware M17X that was stolen.
The keyboard/chassis is tapered, so it's easy to type on, but the AW was 2" thick in the front, making it hard to type.

The AW was 13lbs vs 8 lbs.

The AW ran hot. Asus is cool.

The AW had 2 vid cards for "hybrid" mode that turned out to be more of a pain than a feature.

The AW had electrostatic keys for the optical drive, which made it a pain if you wanted to eject a disc when the machine was turned off. I prefer the mechanical optical drive on the ASUS.

I also prefer the matte (ASUS) over glossy screen (AW), so the Asus laptop pretty much has it all. It's the best laptop I have ever seen.

As another reviewer below mentioned, this laptop has WAY more features than the cheaper models by Asus. The extra HD, 120 Hz screen (3D capable), blu-ray burner vs DVD super-multi, bag/mouse, 2.0 GHz instead of 1.7 GHz, etc.

5 out of 5 eggsvery cool...

Pros: Great notebook. Did alot of looking online for a good desktop replacement and found this. I have bought clevo brand notebooks in the past and am very happy with this notebook. Biggest pro is that it stays cool on your lap and hands. The extras are also nice. Adjustable DPI R.O.G mouse and backpack although the backpack is pretty simple. Rubberized shell has a good feel and its about time a manufacture puts it on a notebook.

Cons: As everyone is saying with this notebook the power connector is on the right hand side of the computer along with 2 of the usb connectors. When you set up in a tight space and need a place for your mouse its kinda an issue. The BIOS is also lacking alot of content however for a notebook i guess thats not important.

Other Thoughts: I bought this computer to go on a deployment over seas and dont think i will be dissapointed. Alot of people talked about the bloatware that came with the computer. This dident really bother me and i found some of it usefull. Some of it is also required if you want to use the built in overclocking fuction. The 3d vision is also pretty sweet. I have played Bad Company 2, Mass Effect 2 and Fallout 3. All and 1920x1080 @ 120htz and they looked amazing.

5 out of 5 eggsSetting record straight...

Pros: Awesome for the price.

Cons: Customer service at Asus is useless. Don't count on using it.

Other Thoughts: Just want to set the record straight: This is the 3DE model. The 500GB model is the XT1 model, which comes with only 1 HDD, no 3D screen, no 3D glasses, no backpack, no mouse...none of the extra stuff that comes with the A1 and 3DE models. There's a reason that it's $500 less - it's less laptop. It's not just a difference of a 500GB HDD. The difference between the A1 and the 3DE is the 3D screen.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing Computer, But...

Pros: Fast, Sleek, Stays cool even under load, Definitly the best laptop out there for its price.

Cons: Nothing bad as far as performance, so far its been perfect. The truth is I purchased it *elsewhere* for
1500$ with a 500GB HD instead of 1TB, (the hard drive was the only difference) but theres room for another 500GB and that wont cost me 500$ so the price here is dissapointing.

Other Thoughts: If your looking for mobile game performance this is the rig for you. You may want to upgrade to windows 7 ultimate. Also recommend you *look around* a little before paying 2k$ for it.
