4 out of 5 eggsGreat productivity ultraportable

Pros: Lightweight, long battery life, very clear speakers. This laptop is used primarily by my SO for her school work, watching online videos/TV series, social networking on JavaScript heavy websites. She's never complained about it for the half year she's had it. The screen is large enough to be a productivity machine (10" netbooks are way too small), yet it's light enough to carry around. When I use it occasionally, my web browsing experience is smooth, including on Flash/JavaScript websites as I mentioned. The Radeon 6310 really helps a lot when you're on these Flash websites. She also uses Paint Shop Pro on this machine and it's fast enough to do some basic photo manipulations, like resize/compress, on entire albums without waiting forever.

Cons: I subtracted a star because I had to fix the touchpad when I got this unit. It wasn't the easiest thing in the world to do without breaking the clips that hold the palmrest in place. Basically I had to pry open the palmrest area carefully using a flathead screwdriver and remove a layer of metallic film that's covering a screw hole under the touchpad. Apparently this is shorting out something. There was no purpose to this metallic film and removing it doesn't affect anything. ASUS could have either not used the film or used a non-conductive plastic film.

Other Thoughts: This is often mistakenly classified as a netbook, which is a term Intel invented to sell their Atom based small laptops. This is not a netbook, it's an ultraportable (similar to ULV Pentium or Core i3 based laptops). Just because it's small doesn't mean it's a netbook, which suggests it can only be used for web browsing. In fact the E-350 is a very decent processor, capable of light photo editing, heavy Excel work and other tasks that older desktops used to handle.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Netbook

Pros: Great speed, perfect size for both the display and keyboard, very good display, battery life is very very long. Overall a very good buy.

Cons: track pad can be unsensitive but I'd rather use a mouse anyway.

Other Thoughts: As a student studying abroad this has been my primary computer for months now and I have no large complaints. It gets everything I need done and with ease. I would definitely recommend this netbook and if I was presented with the need to choose a netbook again I would definitely buy this one again.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: AMD APU!!! - woo!
Gamer netbook - plays fairly modern games no problem
Plays HD movies with very little CPU usage - DXVA!
Dual core - super snappy!
Bright HD display - keep brightness turned down in doors
USB 3.0 - ready for the future
upgradable RAM - a must
64-bit Win 7 - 32-bit must die
not a lot of bloatware
has bluetooth in addition to wifi - hack the planet!

Cons: Cheap webcam - but works well!
2GB "throwaway" RAM - must install more
HD only 5400 RPM - oh well
smudges super easy - use lint-free cloth and canned air
some ASUS software probably never use
intermittent touchpad - fixing requires minor surgery

Other Thoughts: Removed 2GB stick and installed 2x4GB Kingston (brand never fails me). Part of it is used for the video memory (I assume) and so I was left with ~3.61 usable by Windows.

Had this thing 4-5 mo. Touchpad worked most of time but not always. Problem seemed to be getting worse. I took off the memory panel, removed a couple screws next to each RAM module then was able to pop off the front panel that has the touchpad. There are two conductive looking sticky pads underneath the touchpad. They both looked like they were a on the verge of touching another surface I assume they aren't suppose to. The top one was on a conductive surface. I moved it slightly to the right, no more than .5cm. I moved the lower one down and to the right a tiny bit. Seem to be fixed! It was well worth it. I felt as if I finally stopped banging my head on the wall.

Even with the touchpad, I'll still give it a 5/5. Why? It is a netbook! For a netbook this thing has super crazy performance/features!

4 out of 5 eggsGood but not great

Pros: - Vibrant and bright screen.
- Long battery life
- Good CPU and GPU performance compared with comparable notebooks of this size that usually have an Atom.
- Actually has one USB 3.0 port
- Two RAM slots for up to 8GB RAM (but only comes with a single 2GB stick)
- Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit pre-installed
- Webcam privacy slider

Cons: - Voids warranty to replace the hard drive, and have to dismantle the entire machine to access it. Chances are you will break a few clips that are the thinnest and flimsiest designed clips I've ever seen, then you won't have the tight fit and finish as new.
- The stock 5400RPM hard drive is slow. Hard drive is also right under the keyboard so a 7200RPM hard drive will give noticeable vibration. SSD is the only other option, thankfully newegg has some great deals on 64GB SSD's which is perfect for this size notebook.
- Crapware, crapware, crapware. Be ready to reinstall Windows on your own.
- Only 2GB single stick RAM included
- Power plug is TINY. I mean I know it doesn't need much power, but use a larger plug, this thing can be bent easily.

Other Thoughts: Bought this to replace an older netbook (SU4100/4500MHD) my kids basically took from me, but it runs comparable for CPU, but better with GPU. Managed to snag this machine for $300 during a short term deal at another site. I can recommend at $400 or less, but not much more.

Took off an egg because of the items mentioned in the Cons section. You can find the HP DM1z with the new E-450 for about $400 with coupons and is built better and doesn't require disassembling the machine to access the hard drive.

4 out of 5 eggsSo far so good

Pros: I'll keep this review short. The size is right, not too big, not too small. Battery life seems good. Connected to my wireless network I can stream Youtube videos in 1080 with smooth playback. I was also able to tether it to my Iphone-4 with no problems.

Cons: The matte black finish looks good but is impossible to keep clean, it shows everything! The touch pad seems unresponsive at times. The built in camera is very low resolution compared to other netbooks.

Other Thoughts: I'm not crazy about the bundled Asus software and Asus app store ETC. But for what I intend to use if for it works great and overall I am pleased with my purchase.

4 out of 5 eggsFast but Junk TouchPad

Pros: Fast and responsive esp'ly with ReadyBoost and a USB3.0 flash drive (Corsair Flash Voyager) or using a very fast flash card in the reader (SanDisk Extreme Pro).

Cons: Junk touch pad. See forum on eeeuser.com under "1215N touchpad behaving crazily" for possible fixes.

Other Thoughts: Slight weight increase is worthwhile trade for the 12inch screen and greatly increased speed.

5 out of 5 eggsFollowup to "I waited for a deal and it came! Get Jealous!

Pros: This is a followup to my first review, so please read it, as most pros/cons are the same. this is more of an addendum really.

I have this netbook installed with 8gb ram
64GB Crucial M4 SSD with 009 firmware (latest)

Windows Experience Index
CPU 3.8
RAM 5.1
Graphics 4.2
Gamin 5.6 (with initial drivers)
Hard Drive 7.9

very nice size keyboard though just the right shift key bothers me ever so slightly.

Cons: had ralink wireless and broadcom wireless drivers installed though only a broadcom wireless card in,,
removed ralink and no problems.

Touchpad has no problems after i removed the aluminum paper around screw hole as directed online, while installing the hard drive.

the part you click, is tough to click, not a prob for left click but I have to click hard to right click. I can change this two ways,, either through gestures or i can go back in and fix that as directed online. (i love google)

I dont want to go back in however.

A) this was open box and previous noob obviously returned it because he could not figure out how to change out hard drive, though broke the warranty seal.

B) you have to snap off a few parts when opening, and when you put it back together you must be way more careful as a lot of the super super weak plastic clips will break or cause not sealed. I carefully was able to fix this and looks great now, but rather not go back in.

Other Thoughts: I am so so happy with my purchase.
This is barely heavier than my previous (replaced with this) Toshiba Thrive with folio, only 1" longer on each side. Way better resolution. Way better hardware. Windows. SSD 8GB RAM.

My experience is this. everything I do on here takes only a slightly longer time than on my desktop which is only different in that it has SATA 6g (III) Phenom II x6 2.8 ghz and 5750x2 vid cards. Things like Windows update take a min longer but i can still do other things!!!

This CPU is incredible and Im very happy with graphics.
battery life is off of the chains for what this does.

I will be using this more than my home pc even while at home. I love this machine and am so happy with my purchase.

HOWEVER!!!
Stock this machine sucks. I mean it took like 15 minutes for initial setup and i thought it might be frozen.

after ram and ssd this is very worthwhile. If you dont know about SSDs btw, they are game changers.. get one.

5 out of 5 eggsGREAT netbook

Pros: I upgraded it right away with an extra 4 GB of memory, which was very easy. This thing is speedy. I can watch HD movies, play games at reasonable speeds, run professional software like ableton and maya, etc. Far more than I expected from a netbook. The battery life is good, but gaming does drain it pretty fast - i'd say 3-4 hours gaming, 5-6 browsing the web.

Cons: For this price and weight? None. I've read complaints about the touchpad and keyboard, but they've never given me any trouble and it's been several months now.

While it is blazingly fast for a netbook, it is still a netbook. I can play games on it, but it's not a gaming system - I'd say I get 20-30 fps in fallout new vegas.

It's kinda large for a netbook, but still very portable. Also, I wish it were easier to get to the hard drive to swap it out. The 2gb of ram that it comes with is probably not enough for most people - see below.

Other Thoughts: Upgrade the memory as soon as you buy this. I tend to keep a lot of programs up at the same time (at the moment firefox, openoffice, adobe reader, winamp and steam). The cpu can handle it, but I'm usually using about 3gb of ram at any given time. When windows first starts up, I'm using about 1.7 gb. So definitely upgrade to at least 4 gb.

5 out of 5 eggsI waited for a deal and it came! Get Jealous

Pros: usb 3.0
bluetooth 3.0
e-350 with 6310 graphics
2 ram slots
small enough

This is a future proof netbook, pure and simple.
the usb 3.0 bt 3.0 and APU e-350 combo make this a real package that can really perform.

upgrade this thing like i did, and it is a notebook/desktop replacer (90%) because it is so convenient.

The APU gives very substantial graphics performance.
The CPU part is all right. Not bad at all.

I GOT THIS OPEN BOX FOR $285
But thats not all!! There's More!!!

Cons: would be nice in the 11" form.
stock hard drive sucks.
too expensive new,, should be $350.

Stock Ram should be a single 4gb chip, as most people will upgrade anyways, and i now have a spare 2gb chip
just like 50 other people do. (this is wasteful, especially when price difference between a 2 and 4gb chip is 5-10 dollars. Im cereal you guys)

Other Thoughts: Ok
got the laptop for $285
got a crucial m4 64GB SSD for $90 (normally $115 and i like this one especially because of very low fault rate, tho low write speed.)
got 2x4gb (8gb) g skill ram for $35 on shell shocker which happened right after I purchased the netbook in a scramble. Cool $10 off.
All in all saved $185 over what the whole shebang woulda cost me yesterday!
which is great cuz I was hurting and really wanted a port pc that would not give me BUYERS REMORSE!!!

anything else available now,, in this price range (err at least my price range) tablet or netbook, 12" or less,,,,
is not as good as this

good Windows tablets will be out next year,so many more good cpu / apus will be out. not to mention, pen writing, digitizer style, is essential in tablets which few are sporting now

btw, android / ipad are fun, but not functional. you need to work or do school, windows all the way.

need to browse the web and look at pretty pictures. go ipad.
tech style.
go android.

2 out of 5 eggsNetbook Wonderful, Manufacturer Customer Service Horrible!

Pros: The netbook itself is wonderful! The screen resolution is beautiful, and I love how there is USB 3.0! The processor is also wonderful!

Cons: Asus Customer service is horrible! If you try installing a different OS on this system (even just a better version of Windows 7 as I did,) they will NOT offer you support what-so-ever. All the drivers I downloaded and installed from the Asus support page worked except for the Wireless card. I continued to call their customer service and they said the only thing I could do was go to the e-store to purchase the restore disk (which will cost you $50.) I went to the link I was directed to and the page for this exact netbook didn't have any restore disks available for download or purchase. I informed the support center of this and they refused me any other help. I then said if they would not help me any further I would return the netbook and never purchase from Asus again and they really didn't care. They have definitely lost a customer!

Other Thoughts: Although this netbook is great for the price, the customer support is not worth it! I would much rather purchase a more expensive netbook just so I can rest assured that I will be supported by the manufacturer. Had it not been for NewEgg, I would be stuck with a new netbook with the wireless functions of a rock. To rate this exactly:

0 eggs for Asus support
5 eggs for the netbook itself
10 eggs for NewEgg support (200% acceptable!)
