5 out of 5 eggsDoes it all and then some.

Pros: For the price this laptop is perfect. I have owned it for just under 2 years now and it hasn't slowed down one bit. Never had a single issue with it yet (knock on wood). It can handle any video game and I can browse several websites and have numerous windows open at a time without a hiccup.

Cons: The only con to me is that the keyboard doesn't have a back light or light up in any way.

Other Thoughts: I have thought about upgrading but I will be holding onto this laptop for a long time. I highly recommend it to everyone.

4 out of 5 eggsImpressive

Pros: Good performance

Cons: Touchpad

Other Thoughts: Although I prefer desktop machines I gave this model a try. Being a hardcore gamer I put it through the ringer. Tested MMO's, Black Ops, SWTOR, L4D2.......most ran without a hitch at native resolution. Black Ops was a bit....choppy at times but it is with even stout desktop machines in some cases. With the dedicated VRAM however, everything else was smooth as silk. Even was able to run Skyrim at native resolution (with some minor tweaks to quality). Hope I can find another similar to it next year. Plan on getting more. :)

1 out of 5 eggsCustomer Service?

Pros: While working is good.

Cons: Warranty Service.

Other Thoughts: This product is fine, until something goes wrong and you must send it in to ASUS for repairs. My laptop has been in for over 1 month, and nothing has happened. No call, no email, nothing to indicate any attempt to replace the product. What was the problem? It would not charge and needed a motherboard replaced. Zero rating for Customer Service from ASUS.

NewEgg service and delivery was excellent as usual!

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

I apologize for the issues you were having with your notebook, and especially sorry for the downtime while your laptop is in for service. Repair time on notebooks is typically between 10-14 days depending on the issue and/or solution. If you could please contact me directly at cl-tien@asus.com; I would like to look into this case for you. Please reference case # 1032-219. I look forward to hearing from you.

5 out of 5 eggssuperb machine

Pros: great machine. Intel wireless N 100 module. Well shielded (foil shielding internally). serviceable laptop (memory and hard disc easily accessible for upgrades). Highly recommended, great laptop value.

Cons: Wireless LED appears to work only after enabling/disabling with function keystrokes when booted into Window 7, firmware upgrade had no effect on issue. Not all Asus listed drivers are best choice for Win7 Pro (downloaded wireless N drivers from Intel)

Other Thoughts: replaced HDD with Crucial M4 128GB SSD (# N82E16820148442), resulting performance excellent with Windows 7 Professional. Purchased for $650, Newegg raised price $100 one week later. Laptop is listed alternately on model # tag as A53 and "K53" at Asus site. Available drivers may not match actual hardware (as per output of "lshw" using Linux liveCD to generate list of actual hardware by querying the machine). All hardware drivers for Win7 functioning following downloads at Asus and/or other sites (Nvidia, Intel).

4 out of 5 eggsGood Laptop for the Money

Pros: The computer is stylish, yet very functional. The Core i5 is very fast, and the NVIDIA 540M handles most games well. I have always thought highly of ASUS products (MB's Vid Card...etc). This is my first Laptop made by them and I must say it lives up to ASUS quality standards. It is well built and feels very durable. For the money, it is a very good deal.

Cons: It comes with Intel 3000 and NVIDIA graphics. It will decide when it needs to use Intel or NVIDIA. This can be annoying and was NOT clearly stated in the description. However, I did find that in the NVIDIA control panel you can tell it what programs to use the NVIDIA card for, thus bypassing the Intel graphics. Hard Drive is a little slow (more so than a normal 5400rpm). May replace with a SSD.

Other Thoughts: Power hookup is in an odd spot. Also, the top of the battery is actually part of the computer below the monitor, so if you have it on with no battery there is a large hole below the monitor. It looks odd, but doesn't effect performance or use.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat price, great laptop

Pros: -Fast and plays almost any game well. I use this around college and lasts all day if i don't spend too much time playing games.

Cons: -This laptop can get a little warm under load, so if you plan on gaming make sure leave good ventilation underneath or use a cooling pad.

Other Thoughts: -I purchased this laptop for $670, the next day it dropped to $650.
-Battery can easily last 5 hours with power saver settings.
-Screen resolution is not bad despite what others claim.
-Great performance for an amazing price.

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic for the price!

Pros: -Dedicated nvidia graphics card - 540m (see other thoughts)

-intel core i5 dual core CPU (very fast)

-USB 3.0 is super fast

- Longevity of use: As long as you don't smother it to make it overheat, this laptop will work for the gamer and student for a long time.

- Relatively light

- Does not need to be on life support - on the go usage on power saving modes grant me 4-6 hours of life.

- Easy graphics card switching. The Intel HD graphics are awful if you accidentally run a game with it - but is more than capable of handling the display and flash games, etc. You can set each program to run with a different card, and I have had no trouble at all with the nVidia card in games (i.e. it doesn't switch back and forth, causing a crash)

- The other reviews are dead on: the bloatware is scarce , easy to remove, but also useful if you like to keep it on.

Cons: Hardly cons, but:
-Display has a lower resolution than I would have wanted (a wacky 1366 x 768)
-If you're going to be using this as a dedicated gaming laptop (6+hr sessions) I highly recommend a solid cooling pad.

Other Thoughts: I play FFXIV, type up papers, drag it to school and back, and watch videos on this laptop. Basically, I live on it. All of this went into the picking process. The huge issue with me is the video card: a decent one was necessary. A 540m is more than capable of handling the newest graphic-intensive games out there.
