1 out of 5 eggsUtterly Disappointed

Pros: Windows 7 capability in a slate form. Overall, if this had worked reliably, it would have been a GREAT product. When it worked, it worked as intended, allowing us to get work done while traveling.

Cons: This device has been unreliable from the start. Initial setup was tedious. It took many hours to get all of the Windows updates installed. But the bigger problem is that for the past couple of weeks (just when we need it most as school is restarting) it has become unusable. The screen backlight goes out without rhyme or reason. I am about to start down the Asus customer service rabbit hole with hopes they stand behind their products.

Other Thoughts: One other thought: The battery life initially advertised with this really was optimistic. Fortunately, we have a power convertor to allow us to use this in the car without worrying about battery life.

5 out of 5 eggsfinally a USEFUL tablet

Pros: The screen/glass is beautiful on the Slate.

Full OS, load anything you want on need to find an "app".

Being a full OS, you can use the two USB ports for any USB device you like...drag n drop thumbdrives, ext hard drives, ext cd drives, ext mouse/keyboard...

Touch response is perfect (for me)...same for the pen. I did get the pen drivers for extra levels of pressure (for programs like Photoshop)

Auto rotate works well and has a "lock orientation" slider.

The included keyboard has worked fine and is quite comfortable to use.

The included case is surprisingly great...with a soft inside and flip out stands...looks and feels good too.

The Android ICS port for this works fine (with only a few quirks) using Grub bootloader to dual boot.

Speakers are satisfactory.

Button on the front for flipping through open apps is convenient.

I dont use the camera much, but its there and works/looks just fine (even in Android).

Great all-in-one device to grab an

Cons: --- NOT really cons ---
I cant really say battery life is a "con"...just more of an acceptable trade off. I get around 4 hours of use, 3 if I'm working it hard. Sure battery life could be better and its not the 10+ hours of smaller Android/iPad tablets, but its not bad for what it does.

Has a mini HDMI port so you'll need an adapter cable to regular HDMI

The weight is fine for me, but may be a little heavy for some.

The only actual con I can think of is that there is no fingerprint reader for quick logon (like the older HP Tx models). Its a pain to touch type my password to get into Windows in some would be much easier (especially when standing up holding it) just to swipe a thumb.

Other Thoughts: I purchased two of these for work over the iPAD and Transformer. You simply cannot beat FULL Windows in tablet form for productivity. No need to find an "app" for anything, this is like your work desktop machine only in your lap. I work with Oracle, SAS, and many production level servers so "apps" are not good enough for the type of productivity I need (ssh, sftp, code development, MS Office...). This is a full OS.

I dual boot into either Windows 7 Ultimate or Android Ice Cream Sandwich. Android works 99% fine on the Slate...this way I have full Windows or Android (with only a few quirks with Android, with nightly ports making it even better). I have not tried Windows 8, but will give it a shot in the near future. I have Windows 8 on another machine.

This is a great all-in-one device to grab and go and I would recommend it to anyone who needs what this slate offers. If they just want email, games, and web browsing...any of the other tablets would be fine (android/iPad)

5 out of 5 eggsMagnificent Beast

Pros: -With the i5, 4GB RAM & SSD, this thing is fast as lightning. No waiting for programs to open with this monster. Boots and reboots in literally seconds.

-Screen is beautiful and tough as nails. So bright... So vivid. Extremely responsive.

-Extremely lightweight. With this size of this baby, I was expecting a real armload of bricks (maybe that's why it feels so light), but I do not think I would get tired of holding this thing for long periods of time.

-Wacom digitizer. Enough said. Have fun in Photoshop, kiddies. Love the pen garage.

-Accessories. Comes with great portfolio case and the Bluetooth keyboard so you can really get down to business and be productive with this thing. Even came with its own Asus branded microfiber screen cleaning cloth.

-Plays high definition movies and videos in Netflix and on Youtube like a breeze.

-Nice loud speakers. Stereo sound.

-Stays cool as a cucumber, even in its portfolio. Warms up a little, but doesn't gush hot air out the ve

Cons: Can't think of any actual major cons for this thing. If you are a business professional, you might bemoan its lack of an internal 3G modem, but I'm not so I don't care.

The door on the pen garage and the covers on the USB ports feel a little bit flimsy, but eh.

The back is plastic and feels a little bit flimsy or "cheap", maybe, but again, I don't care. I'm not going to be staring at the back of the tablet, and 99% of the time it's going to be in its portfolio.

Screen picks up fingerprints like crazy. Can't really see them unless the thing is off though, but it still might bother you if you're OCD.

Comes with typical Asus junk installed and with only a 64GB hard drive, I'd rather they not put all their junk on my machine... but that's easily remedied.

Other Thoughts: Running Windows 8 Release Preview on this thing, and it's great. Also means that I can't speak for how the touch features work in Windows 7, and I've yet to get the hardware buttons (Aero button, volume rocker, onscreen keyboard button) to work (yet).

Also, Windows 8 just feels much faster in general than 7 and so someone using win 7 might find the computer to be less than lightning fast. I can't really say for sure, although I rather doubt it.

This thing is amazing. I waited a long time before getting it, and even went ahead and picked it up in spite of Asus having recently announced their upcoming Win8 devices coming in Q3 2012. Worth. It.

1 out of 5 eggsNot mad...just disappointed

Pros: Nice screen, Great i5 processor.

Cons: One memory slot, Poor quality Power Supply and Keyboard, Horrific support.

Other Thoughts: I used to be a HUGE Asus fanboy, but their support has gone in the toilet. I've contacted them 3 times (which could either indicate quality issues or simply a lemon).

Once they told me I had to ship back my entire laptop for a power supply that went bad (and confirmed with a known working one). This is also a known issue.

My keyboard started having issues. They ignored my e-mail messages, directed me to Microsoft, and then phone support hung up on me. Finally decided to buy a new keyboard (out of pocket)

The final thing is my display has always had a spot on it (not a dead/stuck pixel), but an area where the light is brighter than the rest of the screen. It was smaller than an eraser on a pencil, so I didn't worry about it, but then it slowly started to spread, and I'm not sure how (especially considering I baby this thing). Phone support hung up on me twice, and no response to e-mails.

I'm honestly not mad, and I don't get angry. I'm just disappointed.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

I apologize for the issues you were having with your device, and am especially sorry for your experience with customer support. Did anybody ever contact you back regarding your issues? If you would allow, I would like to take a look at this issue for you. Please contact me at Let me see what I can do for you.

Best Regards,

ASUS Customer Loyalty

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect Slate

Pros: A FULL computer in a Slate form factor. Finally, a digital notepad. Been waiting 10yrs for that. Onenote rocks on this! I can run anything i want on this including virtual machines.

Cons: I just couldn't remove an egg for battery considering it's size and power.

Other Thoughts: I get 4hrs or more use with wifi and bluetooth on just surfing web. 2-2.5hrs working it hard, and watching youtube isn't working it hard. I can use my Motorola Atrix 4G as a mouse. This makes a great "companion" pc to your desktop when you are home. if you are even thinking of getting this.. get it! it's the best out there still. i hope Asus makes another iteneration.

5 out of 5 eggsFor a tablet, It gets no better than this...

Pros: I own a computer service company and spend a lot of time working with and on various high end systems.

The first thing that stands out about this tablet its size. It makes competing devices look like a kid toys. For me the size is a +. When talking to people with other devices I say that this is an acutal computer instead of a smart device. It can literally replace a laptop and blows other "pads" out of the water when it comes to capabilities and funcitonality.

The speed and power of this tablet is impressive. It has a hyperthreaded dual-core processor and 4GB of RAM. It runs just like a pc just quieter and smaller.

Finally, the screen on this thing is great. Its a crystal clear WXGA screen with excellent responsiveness and sensitivity. The stylus that comes with it can completely replace a mouse by hovering it over the screen without touching it.

In conclusion, This tablet is a great buy. So great that I've bought three of them and will certainly buy more

Cons: It would be nice to have an option for a mobile broadband card. This system is begging for 4G or WiMax connectivity.

The only other thing I can think of is that it gets hot. You won't notice it with the protective case on it but if you take it out you will notice that it is quite warm. This isn't really is an issue with ours though because we rarely take it out of the case.

Other Thoughts: My company uses these when traveling. They serve as laptop replacements. With Windows 7 we have the ability to remote into other machines and servers while working as well as easily work on spreadsheets and other office documents easily. We load them with Office 2010 and they are not only novel in front of customers but functional for our technicians.

5 out of 5 eggsVery Nice...

Pros: It's actually pretty powerful and fast considering it's running full blown Windows 7. It has 2 USB port which allows me to use an external ASUS Blu-ray drive and watch movies (after installing CyberLink PowerDVD). I know the the touch-screen functionality in Win 7 was somewhat of an after thought for Microsoft, but it works very well considering. I would recommend this tablet and I think it would be even better after upgrading to Windows 8.

Cons: Using a touch-sceen for Windows 7 isn't as easy as other OSs designed for that purpose (although Windows 8 is suppose to be much better). Once and a while, the touch-screen locks and have to press the keyboard button to free it back up, minor issue that can be easily remedied so not removing an egg.

Other Thoughts: Looks like this may no longer be available, but I would recomment getting it if possible.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing Tool and Toy in one

Pros: blows the other tablets away. I have a Kindle & DELL Streak android tablets and the ASUS leaves them all behind.
Fast processor, decent battery life (5 hours).
I hardly use my laptop anymore.
With a full i5 processor all my windows apps run. Hardware virtualization allows me to run VMWare on the road as well.
SD is SDXC and will handle a theoretical 2 TB SD card. Runs a 128 GB without a problem (if you want to afford it).

I setup dual boot to Win 7 64 and Android.

Flawless performance
13 Sec boot to Win 7, 8 Sec boot to Android

Very pleased and I would purchase again in a heartbeat

Cons: more battery life would be better but it lasts as long as a normal laptop.

4 out of 5 eggsSome Notes To Take

Pros: I like this PC Tablet, I did not buy from but i though i post something for other people who might be interested in buying one.
The tablet itself is a 10/10 in my book, tough and sturdy, i even like the pen, better than anything else Ive played with that has a pen. Great picture and audio. i like the leather jacket it comes with, very nice.

1280 x 800 Resolution : 4GB DDR3 @1333 : Intel Core i5 @1.33GHz : 64GB SSD Hard Drive : 802.11b/g/n Wireless LAN : SD & MMC 2 in 1 card reader : 2 USB2.0 jacks : 2.0 Megapixel Webcam : 2.56 lbs

Cons: The Operating System (OS) was not fully installed, it was stuck on the installation part of the OS, said press OK to continue, but i couldn't, the screen was frozen, and when you reset it took me to the part in the bios were i can load 'Safe Mode'. The Tablet does come with 2 cd's (good thing) to reinstall the OS, the only problem is that this tablet does not have a DVD Driver, so what i did was i call ASUS, they were a little surprised to hear what i had to complain about, they did say the only options i had was, A, return item to the store, B, mail it in, or C, reinstall OS myself, now i did not own a external USB 2.0 DVD Drive, so i though i make a bookable thumb drive with the OS on it... so i did and soon realized it won't work, (F2 for bios) the bios did read the thumb drive, but it did not load the OS, i went to Walmart and bought a portable DVD USB driver, and i was able to instal th OS with ease after that.

Other Thoughts: I gave it 4 eggs just because of the OS not being fully installed, but i did learn the ins and outs of this now so that was a plus for me after all said and done. It does come with a wireless keyboard, but i went and bough a small USB keyboard with touch pad for myself.
