1 out of 5 eggsGreat but sucks!

Pros: Fast! Upgradeable! Tweakable! Great for games!

Cons: Big, Bulky and Heavy!
***When I bought this, the machine would turn on, screeen blank! Had to RMA. Took forever to get back. Then upon receiving unit, screws were rattling around in unit! Hello tech, good job!!! Had to once again get an RMA. Again, forever to get back! Buy something and you cannot use it for teo months! Nice! Now the keyboard lights do not work. Asus makes some good products, but the build quality seems to be lacking. Really?????

Other Thoughts: The reviews were good. Are we talking lemons with Asus?

5 out of 5 eggsImpressive specs and performance

Pros: Quiet and Effective Cooling
Backlit Keyboard
Powerful CPU
Upgradable RAM
Extra HDD Bay
1080p LCD panel with bright backlight
Impressive Graphics

Cons: Thick chassis, but it stays on the desk most of the time, and it can fit in my backpack fine, thanks to the 15.6" monitor.

Battery won't last long with High Performance Setting, but it will get around 3 hours on Battery Saver (again, which is fine for my uses.)

Other Thoughts: I love this laptop. It's nearly exactly the level of performance I require, and it is provides the exact level of customization I desire.

My version was ordered custom with 12GB of RAM and a large 750GB HDD.

Six months ago, I added a Samsung 830 256 SSD and I've been using it as the OS drive. This computer was definitely bottlenecked at the HDD. It was always darn quick, but now it screams!

I'm a big fan of this computer, and it gives me everything I need and nothing I don't.

1 out of 5 eggsPin in DC jack broke 3 days after warranty expired.

Pros: Awesome in every other way
SSD as boot drive 500GB in secondary bay

Cons: Pin in DC jack sticks in factory ac adapter and breaks out of jack.

Other Thoughts: Obviously a design flaw given the number of complaints
Pin should not taper.
Also my ac adapter is now useless as it has a pin stuck in it I can't remove.

2 out of 5 eggscharging doom

Pros: ran like a charm

Cons: a vital internal bit required to charge the computer became external after lodging itself in the charger plug

Other Thoughts: except for the problem with bits falling off after months of use, this computer ran wonderfully.

5 out of 5 eggsLove it.

Pros: Upgradeable and stock model is fast. I have been beating this thing up since May 2012 and it has met or surpassed my expectations. i am using it for a desktop replacement while I work away from home I run Diablo 3 a lot and I have played Arkum City, SW:TOR, WOW, Firefall without any issues. Obviously a dedicated desktop would rip this to shreds but for the price range and as a laptop I couldn't ask for much more.

Cons: A bit large and bulky for the size of the screen.

Other Thoughts: There are some trade offs for the power, upgradeability and software stability. namely size this thing is much bulkier and heavier then most laptops with this size screen. It isn't very convientiant for frequent travel or something to throw in the backpack every day, unless you value performance over form. It fits my needs perfectly as when I travel I want something I can game on and am willing to sacrifice a low weight and smaller shape.

1 out of 5 eggsWarranty just expired

Pros: Good graphics

Cons: Terrible workmanship. My DC pin broke and had to send it out to California where it was repaired for over a month. Then, my USB port completely became disassembled. It has currently been in "repair in progress" status in California for a month, making the total length of time spent in California this year more than 2 months.

Other Thoughts: Today marks the exact 1 year date of buying this laptop. I don't know if my laptop will break once again after receiving it, but I do know that I will never been buying an Asus laptop again.

1 out of 5 eggsWorks well, until your AC adapter inevitably breaks

Pros: Good performance for the price

Cons: Just like the dozens of others posting here warning of the faulty AC port, mine loosened after a few months and completely stopped working a few days ago. Very convenient, as my 1 year warranty expired in December. I really should have read the negative reviews more closely.

Other Thoughts: I held out on posting a review of this laptop for a long time. I was dismayed at first with the keyboard flex and the frequency with which the chiclet keys "popped out", and have had problems with the monitor going blank when certain edges of the laptop were touched. Thankfully, I was able to fix both of those problems with some research and a small amount of money spent on a replacement keyboard.

I've pampered this laptop. Most of the time its done nothing but sit on a desk, and the few times I carry it with me it's in a padded messenger bag. There's no reason that it should be falling apart after a year.

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Fast, runs anything I've thrown at it. It's quiet.

Cons: It came with 8 GB of Samsung DDR3 in two 4 GB Sodimms. After only one month, one of them went bad. Since ram is cheap, I replaced it myself and upped it to 16 GB. In the process I found the machine to be difficult to disassemble and cheaply built. Also, finding ram that is compatible with it is a bit difficult. Once the ram issue was solved the keyboard promptly died, no reason for it, and I've never seen a keyboard just die before, but it did. Contacted ASUS and was told they don't allow purchasers to disassemble "their" machines. So, I bought a new keyboard myself and fixed that, no problem. Then, the already weak wifi card died. So, one more disassembly and I replaced that with an Intel card, which is much better. Now everything works fine but I'm just waiting for the power jack to break, at which time this unit goes in the trash.

Other Thoughts: The connectors are mostly in the wrong place if you are going to use a mouse with it while charging or using HDMI.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

Glad to hear that you took the initiative to have your unit fixed. Our call center tells you this because you are doing it at your own risk that if it no longer functions the laptop will be voided. However, if you are able to open the unit without tearing the voided sticker you should not have a problem sending the unit back in for repair.

If you have any questions or comments you can email me at cl-jeffrey@asus.com which I reside in the U.S

ASUS strives to meet and exceeds our customer expectations within our warranty policy.

Regards,

Jeffrey

5 out of 5 eggsAsus with another win

Pros: -Laptop performs well on all high end games.

-Runs cool and quiet even while playing very demanding games (BF3, Skyrim, Etc..)

-Very fast, solid clamshell build quality

-Excellent RMA process (see below or another review i posted)

-RMA took maybe 20 minutes to report and received it back, fixed, in slightly under two weeks from initial shipment date.

Cons: -Poor DC Jack assembly (broke at apx 10month with no undue stress)

-Other than the above comment...See Pros =-)

Other Thoughts: Solid laptop that'd be 5 stars all day, in my book, less the DC jack build quality. I'll give it a 4.5 star rating or honorary 5 star since there are no halves.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: I love this thing! Its so easy to use and get used to! The keyboard is amazing and spaced perfectly. Its lightweight enough to carry around. The webcam works like a charm. It installs software efficiently. It picks up wirless way better than other computers and hooks up to broadband perfectly. I love this thing

Cons: The charger is a bit big and the other day it broke off inside the computer and i have to send it back to Asus to get it fixed. Itll be 2 weeks before i see it again :(

Other Thoughts: This is definitely worth your money
