5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: I love this tablet. It is very functional and I have yet to really use it to its potential

Cons: Power cord can fail easily, buy an extra.

Other Thoughts: This tablet has a keyboard that can be purchased separately and I like using a keyboard, it mates up nicely and extends the battery life. Well worth the additional purchase.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: I had my first Prime for almost two years. It was as sweet as butter! I never had a single issue with it. It's like grease lightning! The camera rocks! The dock works well and extends the battery life.

Cons: It is really hard for me to think of a con. I know a lot of people complained about signal strength in the Wi-Fi, and while my signal want necessarily as good as some of my other hardware it wasn't really that bad. The only real con is that when it gets dropped it breaks.

5 out of 5 eggsCheers Asus eeePad team

Pros: Very thin, even compared to late 2012 model tablets. I am surprised they did not keep this up with the TF300 and 700. WHY?! Not to mention this thing is aluminum and none of the other models are. Granted, this model supposedly had worse wifi, bluetooth, and gps performance because of the aluminum -- and they COULD be right, under certain circumstances -- however, I have not experienced those problems yet and I have lived a normal life for the last 7 months since receiving it (in and around the house, work, in my car, in bed, out at places, hotels, vacation, etc...).

...And then of course there are the obvious perks; Nvidia's Tegra 3 IS really fast and a very nice hybrid CPU/GPU.

The super IPS+ screen is quite nice. It won't help a whole lot in direct sunlight, but if you are in the mood for a bright and vivid display (Movies? Games? Pictures? Web Browsing? Everything?) the feature is nice.

As I have mentioned, I have owned this thing for a few months and something that should be mentioned as a pro, considering it credits the manufacturer, is the fact that Asus has been pretty timely with their updates and firmware. They resolved a lot of problems within the first couple of months it was out and they updated the Android system to ICS and beyond very quickly. We are all running 4.1 now and that is great. Bugs don't last very long once found and reported.

The onboard storage space is more than suitable for what your average user would need. It could hold hundreds of e-books, thousands of songs, and probably a large volume of movies, and other media related files, and quite likely have extra space. I am unsure of why anyone would want their tablet to hold their entire entertainment collection's worth of media, but if they did, they also have a microSD slot that CAN and DOES recognize 128GB SD cards. Fantastic.

I bought the dock for this thing about a month and a half ago and have to mention that the dock is also a very nice accessory to have for this. The dock features a full QWERTY keyboard, fairly decent touchpad, a (REALISTIC) 3-4 hour increase in usable battery life, USB support, full-sized SD card slot, and material/color/sturdiness identical to the construction of the tablet itself.

I think I can credit this last thing mostly to the Tegra series processor; This device does not heat up very much or change at all in performance when under stress (Gaming, use for a long time, etc...), which is really nice because it sucks to be holding a very warm tablet while 5-minutes-deep into a video game. Seriously.

Cons: While this is not necessarily something that spoils all the fun, one of the bigget let-downs here was some of the out-of-box applications on the system. I didn't find things like SuperNote or Asus Web Storage/Cloud to bery useful. I use SuperNote, but it is mostly because it is somewhat handy and I have not found a better solution yet... But this is Android. Do you know how many better, free solutions there are on the market?

The speaker(s) on the device are actually decent in terms of quality of sound that is being projected, but they are very quiet when there is activity going on in the room you are in. Utilizing headphones is fine and preferred for me, but still, the speakers are just not as awesome as everything else.

The price is a bit steep, but on the bright side, if you take care of the device and don't mistreat it in any way, this thing will last a good while looking and performing awesome.

Lastly, the resolution and detail on the screen is starting to pale in comparison to newer models, but that is really only something you notice if you start doing the "Let's compare your's to mine..." thing, the screen is still really nice and you won't at all be disappointed by it. I promise.

Other Thoughts: I would say that this tablet is still probably worth a good penny as of October, 2012. I imagine that it has a good year or just under left in active popularity. After that, updates will be fewer, much better stuff will have come out or be coming out. I wouldn't pay 300+ for this past January.

2 out of 5 eggsNewEgg Great, product not so good

Pros: Attractive
Great apps
Nice display when it works

Cons: Sporadic display problems (hash on left side)
Weak Wi-Fi

Other Thoughts: NewEgg customer service excellent, RMA generated, promptly, replacement order processed in unbelievable fashion, this is why NewEgg always gets my nod.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

I apologize for the issues you have encountered with your Transformer Prime. What type of displays issues were you experiencing? Did it appear right out of the box or did it gradually happen? I am sorry you had to end up returning it. I am glad though, that Newegg was able to take back the unit for you. If you get the replacement unit, please tell us how you like it.

If you have any issues in the future, please feel free to e-mail me. I can be reached at cl-tien@asus.com. I'll be happy to answer any questions or address any issues you might have.

Best Regards,

5 out of 5 eggsBest Tablet I've Used

Pros: This tablet has many features that make it a good tablet for the price. It has long battery life and the ability to add more by adding a keyboard to it.

It's pretty resilient as long as you don't drop it on a corner without a protector sleeve on it. (This is my second one hint hint.)

other than that it is a powerful rock solid machine.

Cons: wish it had a USB port on the tablet without a dongle, or the keyboard.
Wish it could charge off of 5 Volt power while on.
Wish that it had a 3/4G version to use with a Mobile Data Plan.
but other than those can't think of anything else.

2 out of 5 eggsAsus Transformer prime and newegg service

Pros: Light weight, ultra portable, great tech spec that won't be out-of-date for a while, expandable memory options, aluminum back finish feels great, Asus, android.

Cons: I was skeptical of the notorious WIFI / GPS issues until I tested it myself.

Wifi - the signal strength is very poor compared with my laptop and cell phone. Several speedtests showed that it would drop signal. W

GPS - Never was able to pick up a signal inside or outisde of the protective sleeve outdoors. 30 minute test drive in a car, and it was still trying to lock on to a gps. This was tested w/o dongle, and with latest firmware as of june/2012. I understand this is not meant for GPS navigation, but I did not like the idea of having to carry around a dongle.

Build / quality - The condition was 'brand new'. When I moved my thumb along the edges where the screen and the casing connect, I felt tiny sharp, jagged bumps. At closer look, there were tiny black dots where paint had come off. It looked like someone had tried to pry the screen open with a screw driver. Three days later, the edges of my screen started to flicker horribly on the edge. This was 'brand new' r

Other Thoughts: I had originally requested a replacement due to the 'cons' above. I quickly changed that to a 'full refund' by calling the customer service. It took Newegg about 1 week (when it said 3-4 days on the invoice) to 'test' the unit before they can issue a refund (understandable).

After testing was done, Newegg said that nothing was wrong and will send back the same unit. If I still need a replacement, I need to contact ASUS.

When I called Newegg to explain that I had requested a 'full refund', the lady told me that this product is not refundable, and that it was clearly stated on the product page. I was shocked and was not aware of such policy for this product. After about 5 minutes, she finally admitted that it was actually fully refundable and processed the refund.

Overall, I'm very displeased with this purchase and the newegg customer service. I wasted several hours just trying to get the refund processed correctly.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

I apologize for the various issues you encountered with the Transformer Prime.

The official specs on the Prime states that the GPS will not work without a wi-fi signal, or with the GPS dongle. It might be tough to use the tablet with the dongle at first, but that is the only way to get GPS reception with the Prime. We apologize for the inconvenience.

If you are experiencing a weak w-fi signal, there is a fix for it if you send it in for service. The fix has been proven to increase wi-fi performance. Brand new tablets carry a full one year warranty, and refurbished units carry a 90 day warranty, so either way, you are definitely covered.

I know you have since returned the tablet, and I am glad you were able to finally sort everything out with Newegg. For future reference, if you have any questions, concerns, or issues with an Asus product, please feel free to contact me. I can be reached at cl-tien@asus.com. I'll be happy to address and questions or concerns that you might have.

Best Regards,

Tien

5 out of 5 eggsBest tablet on the market

Pros: Awesome screen resolution, quad-core nVidia w/ single core for power saving. Versatility of adding a keyboard or just using a leather or silicone case (both bought seperately). Comes with like 8GB of web storage with ASUS cloud or just use Google docs which I think is around 6GB+ Awesome apps like Netflix, Vulkano, Splashtop, Verizon FiOS, Google Docs,

Cons: GPS dongle are u serious? Did someone actually buy this to install in their car and use solely as a GPS guide and not expect to need an Internet connection?

Did you think you could download the the entire U.S. Google maps onto your tablet and drive around with it like it's a Magellan?

HD apps and games usually cost $1 - $2 more than your use to paying on your phone and sometimes need to buy your favorite game again to get the HD version. Yes, it makes a difference.

Other Thoughts: Beats out Apple with just the single core engaged and the quad-core literally chews them up and spits out the core.

The versatility and expandability is unmatched. My optimal travel setup includes a leather folding case, an external battery booster 5500mAH, with a silicone blue tooth keyboard. All purchased on Newegg!

1 out of 5 eggsZero GPS, Very Poor WI FI

Pros: Nice design. Thin/light. Aesthetically it's the best...ipad included. ICS is great!!! Love the mic/phone jack.

Cons: Pitiful WI-FI : Signal reception measured @ <10% of my sony tab S, samsung galaxy tab 2. Zero GPS.
Returned to ASUS for "repair". Nothing improved. 2nd RMA in the process. Will update. Notice to ASUS Legal : This is a class action lawsuit waiting to happen. Fix or refund! Will update post 2nd RMA experience.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Dr Detroit,

I apologize for the various issues you are having with your Transformer Prime.

The Prime will not be able to pick up any GPS reception without the aid of the GPS dongle. You can register your Prime and sign up for the free dongle via our VIP registration site. The GPs dongle will drastically improve your GPS performance and not limit you to using the assisted GPS with a Wi-fi connection.
Did you get your 2nd RMA back yet? I am sorry they were not able to fix it the first time around. If you’d like, I can check up on the 2nd RMA for you if you haven’t received it back yet. Please feel free to e-mail me at cl-tien@asus.com. I am happy to assist you in any way I can.
Best Regards,

Tien
