3 out of 5 eggslook for an other brand

Pros: decent screen, great for basic gaming, good looking machine. plenty of memory, good processor,

Cons: hardware isn't in pair with the price... GPU is of low quality... if you plan to play high end games especially MMO-s do you research better than i did before buying.

Other Thoughts: its a great laptop when its working...i cant make a point that this is a bad laptop since the issues only started to happen about a year after purchasing it. i haven't stress tested the GPU when it has arrived. i should have. If i did i would have returned it asap.. i assume that's why they had all those refurbished products since it was causing problems to a lots of people..oh well you live and learn. IMO a 1700 dollar laptop ( $1000 refurbished) should last longer than a year. Will not buy ASUS product again and also will advise all my clients to stay clear from their laptops and desktops..

Pros: Worked fine for 4 months.

Cons: Will not boot. Will not boot from Recovery disk ($65 extra). Will not boot from OEM Windows 7 disk. Tested memory and hdd. Both seem fine. Looks like they sold me a pc with a shot motherboard or cpu.

Other Thoughts: If you are going to be spending a $1000 on a product it shouldn't matter if you aren't' under warranty anymore. The company that sold it should replace seemly because of the time frame. The original laptop was a gift so it was basically "not under warranty" when it was opened on Christmas....

Manufacturer Response:

5 out of 5 eggsNice Laptop

Pros: Unbeatable price! For this kind of setting, $870 is a ridiculous cheap price. Even though it is refurbished, it is not making any difference. 3 month warranty is too enough. I nor anyone I know, had ever send their laptop back for replacing. I mean, if it had problem, 3 month period is way enough to tell so. Nice DVD burner too.

Cons: I thought it comes with 650m, but it is actually 560m. I messed them up. But the two cards's performance are about the same. I would say 650m has a tiny advantage which you can probly just ignore it. 1080p not supported. Well, it doesnt make that much difference since 17inch screen is still kinda small for 1080p. And this actually gives advantage when playing games because lower resolution means lower demand from graphics card.

Other Thoughts: Very valuable to purchase!

5 out of 5 eggsDream Machine

Pros: Where do I begin with this computer? It has so many amazing features I hardly know where to start.
Well first off it is wicked fast, and the graphics on it are amazing. It's 17 inch display is wonderful, and the extra video memory gives this thing that extra umph when gaming. Because that's what you're getting this for. I upgraded the RAM from 8 to 16 gigs and it helped the multitasking a bit but nothing significant. It's just a fun figure to dish out when I'm making fun of my friends who have Macs and shudder at the thought of specializing or individualizing your computer, I've even had people tell me that my computer looks so awesome that it could survive a nuke. But continuing on, the 1 TERABYTE HDD is awesome. Yes 1 Terabyte, make sure you grasp that. I have filled about 1/4 of it so far. And just so you guys know it split my HDDs into 4 separate drives so with all my movies and games on one I still haven't even touched the other drive, nor will I for a long time. Also if they are still selling refurbished models, go get one and save yourself a lot of money. I have a buddy who got the GS73x model and paid 300 more than I did. And I got a newer model (but more on that later.) All in all after having this thing for 5 months I'd definitely recommend this to anyone who wants a 'Mobile Desktop Unit' and wants to game anywhere.

Cons: All the cons are rather minor annoyances, it's display is 17 inches but the resolution is only 1600 by 900 pixels, the G73x was 2100 by 1080 and looks better even with a slightly worse graphics card on the same settings as this. But it does process the visuals better then the G73x model. Also my m key is a little sticky so it doesn't always respond properly, but if I hit it a few times it works. I owe this to the fact that it's refurbished. Also it's a little loud when the cpu is being strained, but my old laptop was actually louder so I'm used to it. Never had any overheating problems with this one though, even without the cooler. Apart from the weight and battery life being heavy and short respectively, it's great (10lbs and 2 hours on the lowest power setting.) But hey, it's a gaming laptop what do you expect. I don't take this to class, but it moves with me so I can take it to work unlike a desktop.

Other Thoughts: As a college student this thing is great, I can take it to work and class if I want, unlike a desktop. It is powerful and fast, can do anything I ask of it and is a great improvement over my old laptop, which was an old Toshiba Satellite that now belongs to my little sister. The display is great for movies on my couch and close coffee table so I don't need a TV. All in all, if you're a serious gamer who doesn't need an xbox or tv then get this and you'll never be unsatisfied.

4 out of 5 eggsPretty great

Pros: Ridiculously cheap for the hardware
Multi-touch touchpad
Solid case design with great air flow setup

Cons: Somewhat strange shape for some keys (right hand Ctrl button is as big as the shift key)
Doesn't quite hold up as well as I had hoped in some of the newer games. Some games don't run well at all (Crysis: Warhead appears like a complete mess, and runs poorly for probably the same reason)
All of the laptop hardware functions are actually software, which is disappointing (keyboard lighting level, monitor brightness, speaker volume, etc.)
The LCD quality is a little weak. It's not always easy finding the proper combination of lighting in the room and viewing angle.

Other Thoughts: I'm using this for work as a game developer, mostly for mobile platforms. It'll do :)

Also, Newegg has been a PAIN IN THE YOU-KNOW-WHAT in sending me this laptop. The first time I got it there were only 4GB of memory installed and the BIOS wouldn't get recognized by the update software, so the machine was pretty much a dud. Sent it back through RMA only to have them return it to me, reflashed, still missing 4GB and I was pretty much accused of having removed the memory myself. It took hours of waiting on the phone and talking to numerous people to have my laptop finally replaced.

Newegg caused me quite a lot of losses over this laptop. I only received the laptop I ordered a full month after the order was placed, which was 3 weeks too late for my job.

Sadly, Newegg has the benefit of being the only place I can afford to shop at. This means, however, that once I can I will definitely take my business elsewhere. I was deeply disappointed and thoroughly enraged over this whole fia

4 out of 5 eggspretty darn good

Pros: Love the screen quality, size, the keyboard backlitness, the hardware under the hood has chewed up and spit out every game i feed it.

Cons: speaker systems quite quiet. for having such a massive chassis, you'd expect a louder set of speakers. Maybe mine are defective. Anyways its easy enough to hook up headphones or an external set.

1 out of 5 eggsThis Company is Terrible and has Lost My Business

Pros: The laptop itself was very good, but it had minor problems. The reason for the bad review is Newegg themselves.

Cons: The AC adapter did not work. When I told Newegg about it they just threw up their hands claiming "Oh its a hardware problem, speak to the manufacturer." So I ended up buying a replacement adapter to use for the laptop. Then within 4 days of owning the laptop I found out the speakers were either blown or in the process of breaking so I sent it back to Newegg for a replacement. So I had it packaged and shipped it out from a local UPS store and awaited their response. I got an email from them today stating that the computer screen was cracked and that since "apparently there was no damage to box it was shipped in", they refused to replace their defective product thinking that it had to have been broken before shipping which it wasn't. I spoke to a customer service rep and 2 managers and they all replied the same "we refuse to replace it was your responsibility to ship it proper so you broke the screen before we got it." They blew me off entirely and refuse to refund me or replace it.

Other Thoughts: I bought this laptop on a recommendation from a friend and he had nothing but high praise for Newegg. I know the laptop was refurbished, but apparently Newegg sold me a defective product and refused to do anything about it. It seems they reserve the good customer service for people who buy new products and not refurbished or used products. I believe Newegg should have talked to me first before deny the replacement to see if maybe it didn't break in shipping. Instead they followed the attitude of "pics or it didn't happen!" (Seriously they wanted photographic proof after the fact) Never has a company or its customer service department treated me with such a malicious and callous attitude. They cheated me out of my money and my new computer. It will be a cold day in Hades before I ever purchase anything from this poor excuse for a company and I would recommend no one ever buy anything from them either.

5 out of 5 eggsFast, Big, and Powerfull

Pros: Good price on a refurb, Saving $700.00. Fast Shipping came in a verry good Shipping box.
Laptop powerd up and booted just fine. It did have a older BIOS but that was a easy update to version 203.
the Video card in this Unit Rocks FAST and not a Loud as a jet as in others. this is due the the way the cooling is designed in the laptop. Keyboard layout is nice.

Cons: The touch pad will not stay disabled when a mouse is connected. This is not a big problem but one to be aware of. Also I did lots of research before I bought this but if you did not, please uninstall the ASUS live Update program. This program can update your BIOS (this uis goot in thery) but the WIN Flash utility has a problem that can turn this great Lattop/desktop Replacement into a Brick.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Deal on Great Power

Pros: Great High Power Laptop for Gaming or anything else.
Bought as graduation gift, Should be super powered through 4 years of college. Compares very well to Friends 'Alienware'. Has super-pro look too... (but no light up alien head...)

Cons: Not really a con, but it is a big laptop. If you are looking for something to lug around to coffee shops to hit the internet, this is NOT what you want. Only real Cons is the slow drive access (if that bothers you, they make a solid state one).

Other Thoughts: Very stable on DiabloIII, APB, Video streaming, DVD burning, TF2, LFD2. Nearly max settings on each.
