3 out of 5 eggsIt worked well for 2 years

Pros: I had this pad for in 2011 for college and used it for class notes, reading comics, mobile internet, and app games. I had little problem with the speed, interface or storage. For 2 years it worked great!

Cons: I had a soft protective sleeve for it and I took it everywhere but sometime after two years a small fracture happened. The glass surface DID NOT break but the screen below had a crack. eventually it got worse and the display did not work. Also the charging cable was finicky at times and did not charge unless plugged in a certain way. The Wifi was also finicky and didn't always connect.

Other Thoughts: Overall it did it's purpose while in college. I was happy with it for a while but it was by no means a perfect product.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Roldie,

It's good to know that you were satisfied with tablet. I apologize if the screen cracked. ASUS can replaced the screen at a reasonable service fee if the unit was out of warranty. If you need further assistance, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and write down service# 3540857 on the subject line.

Thank you for choosing an ASUS product.

4 out of 5 eggsGood tablet But do not unlock bootloader

Pros: This is actually a good tablet. Screen is sharp and clear.

Cons: One thing to the wise. Please do not unlock the bootloader . I did on mine and then rooted it. Then I installed a ROM Manager. I ended up bricking it. I sent it back in to asus for repair and they wanted to charge me 250.00 to fix. i ended up throwing it away

Other Thoughts: Newegg is a great place to buy stuff. My complaint is with asus. They provide users with an unlock bootloader app. They warn not to install this app, but the temptation is there to download and install.. They designed the andoid os on this unit to only be rooted if you use their unlock app. Knowing that some users will mess up the unit so they can make more money to repair it.

5 out of 5 eggsLong time user

Pros: I have had the first version of the Transformer since it first came out. (years now!) although the keyboard isn't as great as I hoped, the tablet is amazing. It has endured android updates, app installs and uninstalls, video presentations for work, PowerPoint presentations, night time reading etc. I've dropped it a few times and through it all it remains rock solid. Asus did it right since the first version of this tablet. I've used the iffyPad and - hands down, this is way above it. The USB port, alone makes this Tablet more valuable!

Cons: I hope the keyboard has been improved since I bought mine years ago.

Other Thoughts: Good job Asus! When mine dies (its been years already) I will shop Asus Transformers again.

5 out of 5 eggsLove it!

Pros: Nice screen, lots of battery life, got it on a combo with the dock. :)

Cons: Not IPS? I wasn't willing to pay extra for the PRIME and get a tablet that had wifi issues just for IPS. Not enough to take an egg off since I knew what I wasn't getting.

Other Thoughts: It had an issue where any pressure applied to the back of the tablet on the top-left would shut the tablet off. Asus fixed it right up for me. :)

1 out of 5 eggsHorrible support

Pros: The unit worked fine until the screen spontaneously cracked.

Cons: This unit worked fine until the screen spontaneously cracked on its own after simply being shut with its docking station which should protect it and was then opened. Cracks all over the place. I contacted them and sent them a picture of the cracked screen as they requested along with an explanation of what and how it happened. This was after they gave me two non-operative email addresses to them and I had to find the correct one after searching around. They acknowledged the picture, gave me a case number and a number to call. I did just that with the following result:

1. they told me I needed to send it in--at my cost--they would evaluate it and send me a quote. I asked why I needed to do this when they asked for a picture. What was the purpose of that if not to evaluate the case? They didn't know, I had to send it in.

2. I then asked them how much it would cost to repair if they decided--arbitrarily, of course--that it wouldn't be covered under the warranty (which, of course, it should be since only a defect in manufacturing either in the tablet or the docking station could cause a spontaneous crack). They said $248. I told them that was ridiculous because I could but a refurbished one getting the whole thing again for $202. No response.

2. I then said to tell me what the replacement part number was if I wanted to repair it myself. They said they didn't have the information. They don't have the replacement number for their own product? Ridiculous. They just want to obviously overcharge you for their ridiculous repair cost for their defective product they don't want to repair themselves under the warranty.

3. They could, of course, tell me how much the part they don't have a number for costs though. That was $148. Gee, how do you know what it costs if you don't have the number Asus? This, of course, is also ridiculous as you can easily find an OEM replacement for it on the internet for around $60 or so, meaning they are overcharging you some $88 just for the part.

4. That leaves $100 for them to do the labor to repair it for you. Gee, a quick search of the internet shows a video on how to do it yourself which takes about 20 minutes to do if you do it slowly and carefully. That means they are charging you at a rate of $300 an hour to do the repair for you (actually probably more like $4-500 and hour since an experienced tech could certainly do it much faster).

5. Needless to say, I told them what they could do with their company and hung up, telling them I was going to post this experience online for all to read. A company thoroughly to be avoided.

As an aside, I bought a Samsung Galaxy Tab for my 7 year old granddaughter who regularly bangs it around as any 7 year does. She has not protection for it like a docking station at all, and, after a year, has had absolutely NO problem with it at all, so you can make your own conclusions there. You are forewarned.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

I apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused you. Yes, ASUS warranty doesn't cover cracked screen however, in some special cases, a discount may be offered as a one-time courtesy to provide a better customer service experience. Also, the warranty only covers free one-way shipping after service. If I can be of further assistance, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and write down service# 3024075 in the subject line.

Thank you for choosing an ASUS product.

Rodel

1 out of 5 eggsDisappointed

Pros: Initially it was a good tablet for what was out at the time I purchased it. It was lightweight and fast.

Cons: I recently had the “pleasure” (sarcasm) of sending my ASUS TF300 tablet to ASUS for repair at my cost, still under warranty. It went to their Phoenix, TX repair center. The problems I had were several bright spots on the screen in the backlight and severe lagging with occasional lockups. I had tried factory reboots and several suggestions from blogs and forums to fix these issues before sending it in and none of them worked. After a little over two weeks including shipping time which was UPS down and FedEx back (about 5 days according to the tracking) my tablet returned. Nothing was fixed and now the battery life is only about 2 hours compared to 5-6 hours before it left. I don’t know what they did but after using ASUS products for many years, everything from motherboards and processors to optical drives for computers to tablets and peripherals, spending thousands of dollars on their products I am now so frustrated and disappointed that I have made my last purchase from ASUS. This is not the way a company should treat their customers especially with all the competition that is out there today. I would not and will not recommend ASUS to my clients, family or friends anymore and I will definitely spread the word on their (for lack of a better word) “pathetic” business practices. No “STARS” to ASUS because even though this is the first problem I have had with them, if you can’t count on them when things go wrong and they actually add to the problems you already have then this makes them unreliable and I cannot afford to disappoint my clients and customers for something an incompetent vendor has done. Before purchasing another ASUS product I suggest you do your research, weigh the pro’s and con’s, and seriously think about what this could cost you in the long run if something does go wrong. We all hope it won't and you may have never before had a problem before but there will be that first time eventually. Just hope you don't have to use their service facility.

To ASUS, I hope you get your act together and stop scamming people and start using professional business tactics or your company will surely suffer the consequences. Never forget that your customers are your income and the future of your company. One disappointed person can cost you thousands in sales and service!

Other Thoughts: Finding peripherals is a little more difficult than for other popular brands driving the prices up a little more than the others.

2 out of 5 eggsThought it was going to be the best

Pros: Cool packaging Asus steller support (i thought) great display and fast as poop, when it worked.

Cons: Paid return shipping poor quality components fritzy updates

Other Thoughts: in my opinion when you hype something the way the transformer was hyped it should be followed up with good quality and service... "problem with your 3 month old item you paid in excess of $500 for?, sure well issue a call tag for itand send you a new one right away" is what I expect not 45 minutes of trying to prove the damage wasnt my fault but a poor design. It is a paperweight now. Used 6 months

1 out of 5 eggsTerrible Quality, avoid!

Pros: A good idea if they would have made it with quality parts

Cons: Quality is terrible, screen died within one month, showing multiple dead pixels in multiple locations on the screen. I bought this item brand new, paid full price, because I did not want to deal with problems! Wanted a pristine experience out of box. Bought the dock and a case and SD cards, spent quite a bit on this machine, only to be hugely disappointed. Put it in a case as soon as it was unboxed, babied it and never even took it outside the house. Not dropped, not even bumped, I mean I treated it like it was fragile, b/c I spent a lot on it and wanted it to last. I did not use it much, an hour or two a day maybe. Probably closer to about 40 hours on it total. Then while reading one night a month into my ownership I noticed a smudge on the screen. I could not clean it with my soft, scratch resistant cloth, so I took it to look under a light. It was a patch of dead pixels! I was horrified. Called Asus and all they would do, despite it being under warranty and brand new, was to have me pay to send it back and they would fix the digitizer. So I would have just paid full retail for a refurbished tablet. Very poor business practices. Absolutely refused to replace even tho only a month old. Before packing it up, I ran an app that shows dead pixels (by displaying blank diff colored screens) and it showed another area of dead pixels on the other side of the screen from the first set. Research on the internet about my problem showed me this is a BIG problem and common with this model. I guess that is why there are so many refurbished versions for sale usually. I believe there is some defect inherent to the manufacturing process or the design or something that causes all these defective digitizers. And Asus seems to be laughing all the way to the bank, selling this junk and then making people pay to have them fixed and also selling all these defective ones as refurbs - good as new. I guess they are "good as new" as the new ones are rubbish as well. Doing research on my problem I ran into so many anecdotal stories on the internet about sending the tablet back again and again and again and it never being fixed properly. Now I am stuck with this stupid dock and case and I have to sell them for a loss probably. WILL NEVER BUY FROM ASUS AGAIN. I find them and their actions horrible, offensive and reprehensible.

5 out of 5 eggsFlash, Don't Need It

Pros: Works great. No problems. Don't miss Flash at all. Games look great and it is speedy. The keyboard addon is well worth it - extra storage and battery, and works like as touchscreen laptop. well worth the money.

Cons: No Flash, but oh well.

1 out of 5 eggsDon't Buy this!

Pros: Price

Cons: Product performance is not stable and hardware is cheap and doesn't last after 1 year.

Other Thoughts: I strongly warn against buying this product unless you get an extended warranty from the retailer. Mine GPS went out after a few months, then after a major update from ASUS the tablet was as laggy as the poorest forming tablet you can find. Finally, my LCD screen died rignt after the manufacturer's warranty expired.

I should've known when I saw how cheaply built this plastic product is. I only really enjoyed it for about 6 months after purchase, that too short of time even for cost of these tablets. I'll NEVER buy a cheap ASUS product again.

You've been warned!!!
