The Asus Zenbook UX32A ultrabook features strong performance akin to that usually found in high-end machines. Computers in this notebook series include three USB 3.0 ports and an SD card reader. The backlit keys are sturdier than those found on similar computers. Typing is comfortable and simple on the full-sized buttons. The screen is darkened to reduce glare in well-lit environments, and the clear display has a 1,366 x 768 resolution.

The Asus ultrabooks run on Intel Core i5 processors, so they can boot up in seconds. The internal components are protected by an aluminum exterior. A Zenbook UX32A is sturdy, but stylish, and the unibody construction and sleek design are as eye-catching as they are functional.

2 out of 5 eggsKeyboard Issues

Pros: Great screen, fast, light, and a nice solid laptop

Cons: Keyboard. Left side of the ketboard just stops working occasionally. You have to bang around on the keyboard to get it working again or just not use caps lock, tab, left shift and such. Looking on the web, this seems to be a common problem.

Other Thoughts: I couldn't recommend this laptop due to ongoing keyboard problems. Otherwise it is fine

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

Sorry to hear that the keyboard is not functioning properly. If you would like you can send the unit in for service.

If you have any questions or comments you can email me at cl-jeffrey@asus.com which I reside in the U.S

1 out of 5 eggsDOA

Pros: Stylish, sturdy, light

Thank You NewEgg for a great RMA policy

Cons: Unit wouldn't even power on

Other Thoughts: Bought this for a customer to give his wife for Christmas.
Went to RMA and unit is Out of Stock and Discontinued.
Guess I'll just get a refund and go with another brand.
I have had good luck with Asus up until this one. Very disappointed. Now my money is tied up until I can hopefully get a refund.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

4 out of 5 eggsAwesome

Pros: All the good things from the other review are correct. Light, sexy, powerful.

Cons: You can definitely tell you're on a slower hard drive, which sucks considering everything else is awesome. I'm considering swapping out for an SSD to make it perfect.

Other Thoughts: Of course, I spent my first hour of ownership uninstalling all of the junk that gets bundled with Windows . . . but surprisingly most of the ASUS programs I'm keeping. The Face-recognition login, batter widget, etc . . . I'm considering installing a Linux flavor in Windows' place, but in the meantime I'm actually enjoying some of the apps.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing little UltraBook

Pros: 3rd generation i5, so it is 22nm 3d CPU technology. Runs very cool and easy on the battery. Real World I get around 5 hours on the battery. Very thin and light compared to older models. Easy to pack in the suitcase. Good quality speakers. Plenty powerful for most uses except perhaps extreme gaming. Love the back-lit keyboard.

Cons: My palms touching the corners of the touch-pad cause some weird effects. Cursor jumps. Playing with touch-pad settings to try and mitigate that issue, and learning to type with my palms up a little. May wind up tuning off Multi-touch to make it work better. Wish it came with 8 Gig of ram standard.

Other Thoughts: It is now $100 less than I paid. A lot of computer quality and power for the money. Looked at the i7, but for my uses (Email, Web, Word Processing) it wasn't worth the extra $400-500 and the reduced battery life. This is a very sweet price-performance point.

Would have liked a computer about .5 to 1 inch less wide, so that I could pack it sideways in a standard carry-on suitcase. This bumps up against the sides too much so that I worry about damage if the bag takes a hard hit from the rampers. So, I layer things so that I can pack it in the top middle of the suitcase lengthwise and pack cloths all around it. That combined with it's included nice slim slipcase (Which pads the edges pretty well), protect it pretty well from the rigors of travel.

Unfortunately, when you went down to a 12 inch screen, you get into the Atom processors and netbook grade computers. I just replaced a mini-netbook with this, and while it did everything, it was slow enough that it was annoying. This is well worth the packing hassle. May upgrade the memory, I tend to have a lot of things open at once. Wish it came with 8 Gig, but overall very happy.

5 out of 5 eggsUltra Good

Pros: Very Fast, and is quick to start windows and load files. Combined with high speed internet, and web browsing/videos is seemless.

The size and weight are ideal for taking notes in meetings and makng presentations

Cons: touchpad is real sensitive and I keep highlighting and clicking randomly when I type. Not ideal for big hands (or lazy typers) No easy way to disable touchpad also.

4 out of 5 eggsSo Far So Good

Pros: This is for our daughter who starts college this Fall. Out of the box this was great. Not much bloat comes with it, a few ASUS products, and McAfee which was removed and swapped with the antivirus software we use for all computers in our home.
Track pad is very responsive and does well not to read movement while you type although it took a few minutes to adjust it according to daughter's typing style. WIFI radio is very strong, picks up a very good signal in the weakest part of our log cabin. Keyboard touch is wonderful and the backlit keys really looks impressive.
Can't say enough about the monitor's resolution, this is one of the best monitors I have ever seen on a laptop except for the one dead pixel.
Speakers sound good for a laptop
The only minor complaint I have is that the screen folds back easily, maybe it's just these light weight laptops but it's not something that bothers my daughter.

Cons: Only 128GB of SSD space
Costly
One dead pixel out of the box (researching ASUS' policy on this as I write)

Other Thoughts: Will most likely upgrade the SSD to 512GB next year as prices continue to fall. I paired this with a Seagate external 1TB drive and installed ITunes and other software she likes but has no business on such a small SSD. MS Office was pre-installed but requires a key to activate, I thought this was a nice feature. Will know more about this Saturday when Office University gets here and will update review then.

4 stars for now until I update the review in 3-4 months
