5 out of 5 eggsWONDERFUL!

Pros: My favorite laptop out of the 10 I have owned, perfect for gaming, perfect for watching videos, perfect for everything

Cons: Not good for toasting your toaster waffles.

1 out of 5 eggsI can't use this slow lagging PC

Pros: None. This PC should have never been built, that is how bad this thing is. It is not even usable. It also runs Linux very poorly as if that was even possible.

Cons: Windows 8 runs very slow and laggy. I got a user experience index rating of 3.9. I thought I was an AMD fan, since I've been using them for years, but not anymore.

Other Thoughts: This computer is so wack. I went out and spent another $300 on the Intel version. I think Intel is the way to go for the future.

Manufacturer Response:

Greetings Joe,

I am sorry the computer did not suit your needs. It is good news, however, you found a system you like better.

Please let me know if you have any questions. My email is cl-mark@asus.com.

4 out of 5 eggsOK hardware sorry software

Pros: The screen has a crisp image, the case is lightweight beyond these two observations it is just too early to jusdge

Of courese Newegg was quick to ship, had the unit days earlier than expected...

Cons: The keyboard is a bit cramped compared to the toshiba that I'm used to

And like others have pointed out, Windows 8 is a bunch of @%$#%$! If I had wanted a "stupid phone" thats what I would have bought!

Other Thoughts: I have tried to not let my feelings about the software overly influence my coments about the laptop. It would have been nice if Asus supplied instructions on how to get rid of the MS software and install either and earlier version or one of the good Linix distro that are out....

4 out of 5 eggsASUS delivered

Pros: Very easy to start using even with my Windows 8 learning curve. Updated right out of the box. Does everything it's supposed to.

Cons: Attempted to register online and the s/n wasn't working? I emailed ASUS for help. Difficult to read the s/n because of number/letter confusion. Plus it's like 0.5 inches x 1 inch.

Other Thoughts: This product replaces a 2 year old ASUS that crapped out on us. Never had a problem until then! Make S/N tag bigger, please.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Deal

Pros: This laptop is fast and it was a great deal. For $300 you get ATI video and a 320 gb hdd.

Cons: Windows 8 is a problem, of course, but that is not Asus' fault. Win 8 is really a blessing for pc techs like me. My business has skyrocketed because people do not want to buy new pc's. They would rather overpay me for repairs because they hate Win 8 so much.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Value

Pros: Typical ASUS quality build. Nicely textured case. Great specs for the money. I installed Lubuntu Linux on this and now it runs super fast, runs circles around the stock Windows 8 install. All the hardware is supported by Linux.

Cons: Slow to boot, slow to use. Windows 8, people are supposed to use this? Secure Boot BIOS, makes installing multiple operating systems a real pain. Its a shame any of the money spent on this went to Microsoft.

Other Thoughts: I ended up re-partitioning the hard drive in order to get Linux to boot. I wanted to save Win8, but now after running Lubuntu there is no way I'd ever boot into Win8 for anything anyway. I am extremely happy with this laptop.

3 out of 5 eggsPretty decent laptop

Pros: Decent low-end laptop. Nice and bright screen, large keyboard buttons, battery life isn't too short. Good for web-surfing, (not so) older games (hence a nice Radeon video-chipset) and just doing all regularities. Might be a good idea to invest into bigger and/or faster hard-drive though, depending on one's needs.

Cons: - Touch-pad is overly sensitive and takes some time getting used to.

- Windows 8 :( I know some people like it, but I hated its awkward interface, its dependency on apps and multiple screen, and its use of tons of different partions on a single hard-drive. Removing it and installing a different OS is a whole another story, look in Other thoughts.

Other Thoughts: Regarding removing Win8: I had to read a whole bunch of different solutions, and it wasn't easy. Aside from disabling Secure Boot in bios, enabling CSM, and setting SATA config to IDE, I had to pull out the laptop's hard-drive, plugging it in to my desktop, and manually wipe it clean, just to be sure. Then, while installing Win7 in a "where-to" browsing screen I had to format and delete ALL partions (including OEM, Recovery-ones), and only after that it prompted me to choose where to install Win7.
Also, if you're going to install a different OS, don't forget to go to Asus website and download the network-adapter driver (it's Railink one, I believe), and then go to AMD-website and download proper drivers for VGA-chipset (search by a model or run "autodetection"-utility), in order for it to be properly recognized by Windows.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

Sorry to hear that the touchpad is overly sensitive. Glad to hear that you were able to downgrade to windows 7, but looks like there were other steps that the previous person forgot to add in order to downgrade to windows 7.

If you have any questions or comments you can email me again at cl-jeffrey@asus.com which I reside in the U.S

4 out of 5 eggsGreat secondary computer

Pros: Dedicated graphics, USB 3.0, Great price for the included hardware

Cons: Clunky keyboard, overly sensitive touchpad

Other Thoughts: I have been very satisfied with the purchase of this laptop. It is an away from the desktop computer, so I never had any delusions of buying a supreme gaming machine. It is more than adequate for medium duty computing. It handles photoshop surprisingly well. It does have Windows 8, but that is made quite clear before you even purchase it.

The keyboard, yikes. The layout is awkward, they keystrokes are clunky, and downright frustrating at times when writing anything over a sentence.

Although I like the new "smart gestures" incorporated into the touchpad, it is very sensitive, and can take you to a different screens in the blink of an eye.

Overall a good purchase, and pretty rock solid at the affordable asking price.

1 out of 5 eggsMake Sure you want this before you BUY!

Pros: Good Foot rest.

Cons: Windows 8, The keyboard mechanics are poor. mouse design is poor. slow. Power adapter is poor.

Other Thoughts: Same as Above.

4 out of 5 eggsDecent basic system.

Pros: Good basic system with dedicated graphics.

Cons: 5400RPM drive... a bit slow for a HDD in a current system but that helps keep the price low and it doesn't matter if your not trying to turn it into a gaming system.

Other Thoughts: I felt compelled to write this review after reading a very uninformed one star review where the user obviously was not aware that Windows 8 is very different than Windows 7. While it's not a top of the line system, it's a very good system... especially considering the price point.
