1 out of 5 eggs16 Months Later Will not start

Pros: Love using this for reading. Nice crisp background is easy on the eyes.

Cons: Battery DIED! Tried all of the fixes and nothing, called google support and she insisted it just needed charged. Charged it for 48 hours on 2 different oulets just to be sure. Read about the common battery cables coming loose and did that. Still nothing. Charged tablet unplugged plugged back in held the power still nothing.
This tablet has not been heavily used at all. a week on vacation and occasional internet use. Turned off after every useage. Would not expect the battery to die after only a year with limited usage.

Manufacturer Response:

4 out of 5 eggsWorks

Pros: It was cheap and after it sat on the charger for over a day it's finally staying on when taken off the charger

Cons: Scratch on the bezel of a supposedly new device. I just use them as alarm clocks and lighting controllers so as long as it works.

3 out of 5 eggsDied for no reason

Pros: Nice size, reasonable speed, good screen, indoor brightness is good

Cons: Died for no reason

Other Thoughts: We have two of these older Nexus 7 2012 models. Liked the first one so much (gave to my wife) that she bought me one 6 or so months later. The first one (purchased 12/12) was working just fine but in June of this year (2014) it would not turn on one morning. This is an 18 month life. Be prepared for this. I tried every clue suggested on the internet and every suggestion from their customer service rep. No restart. They said since it was so "old" that they could try to repair it outside of warranty and that it would be about $100 - $150 however they could not tell for sure until I sent it to them. In addition it contains a lot of data I do not want to send to some factory somewhere. Since I could replace with same 2012 model in that price range, I just abandoned the broken unit and bought a replacement of the same model. So, I give the first 2012 unit 1 star and the other one my wife bought for me later 5 stars (since it did not die yet) - thus the average of 3 stars. Just be aware of the flaw where it just won't start one day. Look at comments on Google about Nexus 7 units that die for no reason.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Valued Customer,

I am sorry to hear that your Nexus 7 would no longer power on, occasionally if the battery completely discharges it may require a certain procedure to get your Nexus 7 back on.

Charge the tablet with a wall outlet for one hour > Unplug your Nexus 7 > plug your Nexus 7 back in within 10 seconds > Hold the power button for 15 seconds.

If you need any assistance in the future, please feel free to email me at CL-Scott1@asus.com. Be sure to place case # N140818562 in the subject line for reference. I am here to assist with all of your ASUS needs.

Warm regards,

4 out of 5 eggsSome battery issues

Pros: All in all a high quality product. Functions as expected.

Cons: After a year and a half of ownership (beyond the 1 year warranty) the tablet would no longer start. The screen would flash briefly when the power button was depressed, but nothing else happened. The battery also would not charge. Upon further research, I found that a common issue caused the battery connection to become loose. I was able to easily open the case and plug the battery back in, and now it works fine.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

It's great to know that you are satisfied with the high-quality of the tablet and for meeting your expectations. The battery related issue is an isolated case. Should you need further assistance, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and write down service# N140708376 on the subject line.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing Service

Pros: Fits perfectly

Cons: Took a little while

Other Thoughts: There were some issues with me ordering the wrong case. Absolutely my fault. They were wonderful and sent me the correct case with a film and a stylus for free. My experience with their support staff was wonderful and I would recommend ordering from this seller if at all possible.

1 out of 5 eggsDied a week later

Pros: I think it was nice.

Cons: It died before I got to use it for what I bought it for!

Manufacturer Response:

Dear El,

Thank you for considering the tablet a nice product. I apologize if the system failed to power on after a week. Please verify if the USB cable and AC adapter are properly connected from the tablet to a working surge protector or AC outlet. Please try to disconnect the AC adapter and let the unit drain for 24 hours to reset and clear the memory. After doing this, please reconnect your AC adapter then power on the unit. If the problem persists, please press and hold the power button, repeat this process a couple of times, until you see an Android logo or a battery icon. If a battery icon shows up, let the battery charge fully before turning it on again. If you need further assistance, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and write down service# N140707664 on the subject line.

Thank you for choosing an ASUS product.

2 out of 5 eggsWas great until update

Pros: This was a great little tablet. Very smooth, great display and lightning fast. I picked it up in February and was really excited for this tablet and its future potential with KitKat on the horizon.

Cons: First thing I noticed unboxing was how short the charging cable is. Its significantly shorter than all of my other devices. And then the updates rolled out. Immediately my battery life got cut significantly. Went from being able to use regularly for a few days before needing to recharge to not even being able to spend an hour or maybe a couple hours before the getting a low power alert. To make things even worse there were charging issues too. First noticed when I plugged in one night before bed and in the morning it had made nearly no progress. Then even more aggravating was it not even being able to maintain while using with it plugged in. I started troubleshooting everything and ruled out any issue with the charger and cable. Did some research and found other having same problem. So then I started reaching out to support. First was google, who took absolutely no ownership of this being their issue with software, and they directed me to Asus support. So then I make that call and run into the same issue. They want to run through all the same generic troubleshooting methods they have online but that's it.
No other info. No admission that there is an issue with software that they are working through. Nothing. There is nothing more frustrating than a company that doesn't take ownership of problems. Not only has my time been wasted going through calling in to support, going through scripted troubleshooting steps, and in the end having to just sit, wait and gamble that there is an update to fix this, but now I have the inconvenience of having an expensive paperweight and have to figure out other ways to do everything I was using the Nexus for.

Other Thoughts: This is a great tablet, but I would stay away from it until things are sorted out with KitKat.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

It's great to know that you consider the NEXUS 7 a great tablet. I apologize if you started experiencing a short battery life after updating the OS to Kitkat. Please try to do a hardware reset to resolve the stability issue and install the most current Kitkat system update. Also, please verify that third-party applications being installed have the most current update and are fully-Android compliant to avoid conflict that may cause stability problem.Should you need further assistance, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and write down service# N140707698 on the subject line.

Thank you for choosing an ASUS product.

4 out of 5 eggs4 months until FAILED

Pros: +Great gamings on it
+Long battery
+Mult-tasks
+32 GB
+WiFi

Cons: I had been used it within 4 months until my Nexus 7 tablet failed. I tried to turn on it with my charging, but it doesn't turn on the screen. I have one year warrantly on my purchase. I am not very happy that my Nexus 7 tablet is dead. I will call the customer service about to replace new one for me sooner.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Joel,

Thank you for the positive comment with the tablet. I apologize if the system failed to power on after 4 months. Please verify if the USB cable and AC adapter are properly connected from the tablet to a working surge protector or AC outlet. 2 out of 5 eggsbig problems

Pros: Great apps smooth running. Couldn't leave home without it.until of course it went on the blink after 11 months.

Cons: After initial problems at 11 months and need to constantly rebooting at 12months and 2 weeks it finally stopped working. 2 weeks out of warranty after some research it appears this is a common problem. I expected better quality from google. My advice is to pay a little extra for quality. My next tablet will be an Apple product.

Other Thoughts: How can they help potential customers? Take nexus 7 off the market - don't cheat their customers out of hard earned cash.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

I apologize if you were disappointed with the tablet. On the contrary, there are lots of very satisfied customers that are having positive experience using the product. The unit suddenly stop working is an isolated issue that can be resolve in different ways. Should you need further assistance, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and write down service# 3729986 on the subject line.

2 out of 5 eggsASUS Google Nexus 7 (DOA)

Pros: I just received the package two hours ago. None yet

Cons: As stated in several reviews, my tablet was DOA also. I re-visited the reviews on this product and did verify the power source is good. My next step was going to be letting the power supply drain for 24 hrs, but first I decided to try another power supply with USB port, the unit did power up with the battery ICON and is currently charging. If it continues and becomes fully charged I will keep it. It would seem this an on going problem, the tech rep replies often with reset instructions. If this is the case I would like an upgraded power supply

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

I apologize if you the tablet will not power on upon arrival. Yes, normally the USB cable and AC Adapter need to be checked if both are connected properly from the tablet to a known good AC or power source. Also, ensure the power button is being pressed all the way down in order to trigger a power on signal. Should you need further assistance, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and write down service# 3730011 on the subject line.

Thank you for choosing an ASUS product.
