Engineered to shine in performance as well as design, the ASUS Vivo Tab RT redefines your digital mobile life with a perfect fusion of the state of the art hardware and software. Powered by NVIDIA TEGRA 3 quad-core processor and 2GB DDR3 memory, the ASUS Vivo Tab RT offers first class performance to breeze through your daily tasks and demanding games. A stunning 10.1" Super IPS+ display with ASUS TruVivid Technology delivers superior visual clarity both indoors and out, complete with quad-speakers powered ASUS SonicMaster Technology for life-like acoustic enjoyment. The brand new Windows 8 RT sets a new trend for your tablet experience with a new level of ease of use, expansion and protection.

Asus' Android-powered tablets are among the best devices available in their category. The manufacturer consistently builds intuitive and innovative gadgets that have become consumer favorites. The Asus VivoTab RT is the company's first tablet with Windows 8 RT, Microsoft's latest mobile OS.

The VivoTab line is optimized for all of Windows 8's best features. The Asus tablet has USB slots and card readers, but with Microsoft's software users don't have to stop using other programs while files are being downloaded. The 10.1 inch screen has enough room to display all content clearly, even when multiple apps are open.

Windows 8 RT is designed for mobile use, but it also has an interface similar to Windows 7 and is more functional with the use of a keyboard and trackpad. The Asus Vivo tablet series is compatible with removable keyboards. The peripheral device adds some bulk, but because the tablet only weighs 1.2 pounds, the increased size doesn't hurt the gadget's mobility. The keyboards also protect screens from damage.

On its own, an Asus VivoTab has an 8 hour battery life. This is likely enough power for many users, but there are some who require a boost. The keyboards have additional batteries to extend the length of a single charge.

The Asus tablets feature Nvidia graphics cards and HD screens so all content is clearly displayed. They also feature an 8 megapixel camera that can capture photos and videos with high resolution. VivoTab's viewing angles are wider than those found in comparable devices, allowing users to watch the display from any position without color distortion.

Windows 8 RT is meant to bring the functionality of a desktop to tablets. The Asus VivoTab makes use of all the software's best features, so consumers can replace all of their gadgets with a single, easy to use mobile device.

1 out of 5 eggsDo Not Buy

Pros: Small, light weight, excellent battery life (w/ second battery in docking station).

Cons: Touch screen went haywire after 9 months of use. Had to disable it, so now I no longer have a "tablet". Video card constantly crashing from day 1. Keyboard on docking station does not always register keys pressed.

Other Thoughts: I regret purchasing this machine. For as expensive as it was, it should have been perfect. Instead, my $100 android tablet is more reliable. Asus usually makes good products, so I'm very disappointed.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

I do apologize that your VivoTab RT is not functioning at its full potential. If a hardware reset did not help solve the issues you are encountering, I recommend sending it in to be diagnosed. I would be more than happy to help assist you with our RMA process. If you are interested please feel free to email me at CL-Scott1@asus.com with your serial number. Also, please put case number # N140733031 in the subject line.

Best regards,
Scott

1 out of 5 eggsgarbage

Pros: cheap, small in size, good in theory.

Cons: lack of apps. No google apps IE: gmail, Chrome, Drive. can't make it go into standby mode. no option to put the display to sleep. once it goes off, device powers down. I rarely use it and its already crashed and had to factory reset twice.

Other Thoughts: Avoid Windows RT

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

Thank you for the positive comment. I apologize if you are experiencing stability issue with the tablet. In order to improve system stability and performance, please upgrade to WINDOWS 8.1 after doing a PC Refresh. If you need further assistance, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and write down service# 3690399 on the subject line.

2 out of 5 eggsAwesome when it works

Pros: Very nice screen. Windows rt really isn't that bad.

Cons: A few months after i received this tablet for Christmas it started blue screening on start up. I contacted asus, they gave me from troubleshooting steps (whixh can also be found through a Google search) but they didn't work. When i told the analyst who was helping me this she jusy told me to try again and contact them later. As such, it is still unusable.

Other Thoughts: The connection to the keyboard can be rather precarious. My toddler had no problem separating the two just by slightly pushing on the acreen.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

It's great knowing that you like the nice screen and WINDOWS RT. I certainly understand your concern regarding the blue-screening. Please try to run System Restore in order to revert the system to the last known good configuration. If you need further assistance, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and write down service# 3589669 on the subject line.

Thank you for choosing an ASUS product.

4 out of 5 eggsGood if you don't need a full Windows

Pros: Great screen
Great Battery Life
Mine was bundles with the keyboard Dock so that was good.
Responsive for everything i used it for.

Cons: Windows RT
I didn't research enough into RT before jumping on this.
you can only install Windows store Apps and Arm processor tailored applications, WHICH there are very few off.

Over all i don't blame the product for that, i just figured i'd give others a heads up.
It was great for mobile Office work, so ideal for a student on the go or work life on the go.

Other Thoughts: I jumped on it because it was on an amazing deal discount and i noticed it too late to get much research into it. its still a Strong and great tablet it just wasn't for me.

3 out of 5 eggsNot Bad for price

Pros: Got this couple days after Christmas. So far not overly disappointed. I bought it to use around the condos as I am a board member, and to keep track of goings on. With Office 2013 can type in info as needed. With sky drive can upload to use in other computers. WiFi works well

Cons: It lacks Apps to install. & you can only use IE for internet. Being windows RT does limit it a bit, but hopefully more apps can be added. Some of the apps listed wont work. Would love it if could use different browsers

Other Thoughts: Overall not disappointed. Use it a lot hardly turn on the desktop since I bought it. According to asus this has now been discontinued

5 out of 5 eggsVery Happy after fixing ALL THE ISSUES!!

Pros: Great little Tablet especially for the price! I too have eliminated thew need to haul my big bulky laptop. I used ERM's suggestion to fix sleep issue. Works like a charm now. Followed Bud's Flash Fix recommendation...Took care of that issue as well. For the "Pre" Christmas price I paid with free keyboard and now that those issues have been corrected...I am very satisfied with this purchase. Acclimating to 8.1 now.

Cons: Too many issues out of the box! Extremely frustrated upon initial use. It took hours to load 50+ updates. Had nothing but troubles after running 8.1 Update. Had RMA issued to return it because it froze up and would not respond to anything even a reboot . Tried to reboot it one last time before returning it and magically everything began to function as it was supposed to.

Other Thoughts: Thanks to those who posted their solutions to the problems I too experienced.

3 out of 5 eggsAdequate

Pros: Windows 8 with available update to 8.1 - I did not have the issue some people reported where various functions stopped working after the update; I think ASUS has fixed that.
MicroSD slot was easy to use and accepted by Windows (I've had issues with MicroSD and Windows before).
Even though its RT, you can still get into the nuts and bolts of the OS. Since experimenting with Windows 8 was a main reason I bought this tablet, this is a major plus.
Came with the docking station - free!

Cons: Proprietary charging/docking port - I know its to connect the dock, and it does come with a USB adapter dongle, but I really dislike proprietary USB connections.
The operating system chews up something like half of the onboard memory. Given that this is the nature of a full blown OS, even if it is RT, it was expected, but still not cool.
The default power settings aren't optimized for use as a tablet. When it tried to 'Sleep,' the screen would shut off but the tablet would keep going full bore, which meant the battery would be dead in the morning before I started shutting it down when I was done with it.

Other Thoughts: Windows 8(.1) RT - I'd almost call this a con, except I knew what I was getting when I bought it. RT really doesn't give the best Windows experience, what with the user being locked into using only apps from the App Store.
I did not receive the model with a SIM card for connecting to a cell network, as some have reported; the model advertised isn't supposed to have one.
The USB adapter dongle is enormous in relation to the size of the tablet and awkward to use when attached to the tablet.
The hinge portion of the docking station seems very stiff.

5 out of 5 eggsFix Sleep Issue

Pros: Perfect for production work on the go, I believe I have just eliminated having to take my laptop with me when I travel.

Cons: There is a documented issue after updating to Win 8.1 with sleep mode where the tablet has to be hard reset in order to boot. I have found a fix that has worked perfectly.
1.Open the control panel (-> all apps).
2.Open the device manager.
3.In menu "View" select "devices by connection" (or such, sorry, my VivoTab's Windows RT isn't in English).
4.There should be an entry "Mobile EHCI Host Controller" which has an "USB-Root-Hub" below it, which in turn has in "USB composite device" below it, which finally has the "TF600TG-3G+ modem device" below it. Find this USB-Root-Hub.
5.Right-click the USB-Root-Hub and delect "properties".
6.Select the "power management" tab.
7.Untick the checkbox "Computer can turn off this device to save power".
8.Press the OK Button.

4 out of 5 eggsMake your flash work

Pros: Surfs fine, my wife likes it fine. This review is to tell you that if your flash doesn't work go to

http://www.asus.com/Tablets_Mobile/ASUS_VivoTab_RT/#support

Once you are on the ASUS support page for this item, select "Drivers and tools", select the RT operating system then under utilities you'll see the "Camera Flash fix..."

This is a zip file. I downloaded it and unzipped it on my regular pc, placed the file on a microsd memory card, inserted the card in the tablet and ran the file from the memory card. This is a firmware update. I recommend plugging your tablet up to the charger while performing this operation.

I received the instructions for this fix from ASUS tech support on Christmas Eve, less than 2 hours after requesting help.

Cons: Had to manually update the firmware to enable the flash.
