Engineered to shine in performance as well as design, the ASUS Vivo Tab RT redefines your digital mobile life with a perfect fusion of the state of the art hardware and software. Powered by NVIDIA TEGRA 3 quad-core processor and 2GB DDR3 memory, the ASUS Vivo Tab RT offers first class performance to breeze through your daily tasks and demanding games. A stunning 10.1" Super IPS+ display with ASUS TruVivid Technology delivers superior visual clarity both indoors and out, complete with quad-speakers powered ASUS SonicMaster Technology for life-like acoustic enjoyment. The brand new Windows 8 RT sets a new trend for your tablet experience with a new level of ease of use, expansion and protection.

Asus' Android-powered tablets are among the best devices available in their category. The manufacturer consistently builds intuitive and innovative gadgets that have become consumer favorites. The Asus VivoTab RT is the company's first tablet with Windows 8 RT, Microsoft's latest mobile OS.

The VivoTab line is optimized for all of Windows 8's best features. The Asus tablet has USB slots and card readers, but with Microsoft's software users don't have to stop using other programs while files are being downloaded. The 10.1 inch screen has enough room to display all content clearly, even when multiple apps are open.

Windows 8 RT is designed for mobile use, but it also has an interface similar to Windows 7 and is more functional with the use of a keyboard and trackpad. The Asus Vivo tablet series is compatible with removable keyboards. The peripheral device adds some bulk, but because the tablet only weighs 1.2 pounds, the increased size doesn't hurt the gadget's mobility. The keyboards also protect screens from damage.

On its own, an Asus VivoTab has an 8 hour battery life. This is likely enough power for many users, but there are some who require a boost. The keyboards have additional batteries to extend the length of a single charge.

The Asus tablets feature Nvidia graphics cards and HD screens so all content is clearly displayed. They also feature an 8 megapixel camera that can capture photos and videos with high resolution. VivoTab's viewing angles are wider than those found in comparable devices, allowing users to watch the display from any position without color distortion.

Windows 8 RT is meant to bring the functionality of a desktop to tablets. The Asus VivoTab makes use of all the software's best features, so consumers can replace all of their gadgets with a single, easy to use mobile device.

2 out of 5 eggsWOW..

Pros: WIN RT is by the best mobile OS (in my opinion) out there.. fast and fluid , it does what its told

Cons: ... i recieved the dock that was promised A MONTH LATER!! ASUS tech service is horrible, i have an issue with the screen and it decides to go insane all the time , swiping the screen, lowering the volume, just buggy as hell. i dont know what happened , but i tried to call asus, and nothing, no answer, no help, im no happy haha. i will upload a video showing this.

Other Thoughts: FIX MY TABLET ASUS!

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

I apologize for the issues that you are having with your touch screen. Are you still having those issues? Does it seem to be touching and selecting things even though you are not touching it? If so, please back-up your data and perform a factory reset from the PC Settings or by pressing the pin-hole button near the power button with the tablet off. Give it a shot and let me know if it fixes the issue. I can be reached at cl-tien@asus.com. If it doesn’t help, I can arrange an RMA for you to send it in to get fixed.

Tien

5 out of 5 eggsFavorite tablet

Pros: Love this tablet. I also have ipad3 also have transformer prome tf201 (android) and within a couple days this is the only one I use. The key items for me are mostly related to the desktop part. You can MAP NETWORK DRIVES, USE FULL REMOTE DESKTOP and with the "jailbreak" you can run many ported desktop apps (notepad++ is awesome for me as a developer). Absolutely perfect for me. This is the first tablet that I can get some real work done with. The windows store is getting more and more apps and soon the number of apps will be a non-issue and with full versions of office (they look like the desktop versions) it's worth the price to me right there. I think as people understand what win8rt devices are capable of they will be switching. Oh also battery life with the keyboard dock is amazing (around 16 hours!)

Cons: none yet

2 out of 5 eggsWorked Great until Firmware update.

Pros: It did everything I wanted it to do when it worked, I would have given 5 stars. Hopefully Asus will allow me to RMA it to them so that they may fix it.

Cons: Had no problems at all with this product until I downloaded a firmware update, then the screen started to fail. I started to get the jumping screen that many others have stated.

Other Thoughts: This is my second Vivo tab, my first tab was DOA. I'm getting kind of frustrated since i paid $550 and have had two defective products within a couple of months.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

I apologize for the issues that you are having with your VivoTab RT. Which firmware update was it, do you remember? Can you please back up all your data and perform a factory restore on the tablet to see if the jumping still persists. If the restore does not fix it, please contact me at cl-tien@asus.com for further assistance. If anything, we can have it sent in for servicing.

5 out of 5 eggsAMAZING

Pros: Has windows RT which means it comes with Microsoft office. However you can't installed software on it because it is the RT version. Only way to installed programs is through the windows store. To me this si perfect because i already have 2 computers and a nook. I don't need anything more then that for my tablet.

Cons: Boots slow sometimes and programs open slower. I anticipated this before i bought it. I knew that it would. It runs on internet fast, however programs and such open slow. It isn't snail slow, but it hesitates a moment after clicking. To me not a huge thing.

5 out of 5 eggsUnhappy customer (Asus)

Pros: Excellent Product, easy to set up, it complements my laptop with windows 8

Cons: The reason I titled this unhappy customer is more to do with Asus as a company. Asus makes some very good products, but the customer service is horrible. I tried for 3 1/2 weeks to get the invoice and serial number to upload (to get the dock) and had nothing but trouble and needless to say it never got uploaded so I lost out on the dock to go with my tablet. And yes I am quite upset with Asus and there customer service. I would never do this again. I would buy something and have to send for something free. It should have been bundled together. Now if I want the dock I have to spend $160.00 to get it.

Other Thoughts: I could not eggs away because of Asus customer service. That is not the products fault nor is it Newegg's. I have nothing but high remarks for Newegg. I have done alot of business over the last 3 years and have had zero problems with Newegg.

1 out of 5 eggsDont buy

Pros: It’s well design from an aesthetic perspective and is a true mobile device. Love WIndows RT.

Cons: There is an inherent design flaw that is causing the screen to jump and generate touch screen input by itself. This renders the device complete unusable. Just do a google on ASUS Vivo Tab jumping screen. Until ASUS acknowledge the design flaw and make available a fix DO NOT buy this device.

Other Thoughts: Uncommon for ASUS to have a major quality flaw like this but guess it happens. Let’s see how they recover.

Manufacturer Response:

2 out of 5 eggsLook elsewhere

Pros: It has good hardware and speakers are decent

Cons: The software is absolutely horrid. Windows RT is a fail.

Manufacturer Response:

3 out of 5 eggsGreat tab...not so great support

Pros: 1. Windows RT with Office applications included is great for work.
2. The ability to expand storage with micro-SD and USB port.
3. Free keyboard is wonderful to use when converting to a more netbook-like format.

Cons: 1. Out of the box the screen was not fully seated in the case in the top right corner. I ignored this as a cosmetic flaw at first. Now the screen is sensing multiple touches along the right side and is unusable.
2. The store I bought it from (with an extended warranty) will not take it back because there is a manufactuerer's warranty. The manufacturer only pays shipping one way which means I have to pay money to get something fixed that I already spent a lot of money on.

Other Thoughts: While ASUS has been helpful via their customer service website and on the phone, it seems unsatisfactory that 30 days after purchase as a gift, so only about 15 days of use, the item does not work, and I have to pay to ship a deffective product back to the people who built the deffective product.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

I apologize for the issues that you are having with your VivoTab RT. Are you still having problems with the touchscreen? If you are, and have not sent it out yet, please contact me at cl-tien@asus.com. I have some troubleshooting steps for you that you could try. It’s worth a shot before sending it off.

2 out of 5 eggsgreat hardware, inadequate OS

Pros: I loved the hardware. Nice & thin & lightly - noticeably lighter than my iPad 2. And for most anything I did on it, the response was admirably snappy.

Cons: I really thought I could live with Windows RT, but I just can't. I was ready for the limitations described in many review articles, but there were many more. "File Management" is an absolute misnomer - anything your apps download end up disappearing into thin air. I thought it would be great to have an SD card, but I couldn't get anything from the apps to go to it. Yes, I figured out how to mount it to the C drive and get it into the Library, but little good it did me - anything on it had to come from a PC download. I compared it directly to my laptop running Windows 8, and there were all sorts of folders and files that simply weren't there with RT.

Other Thoughts: In some ways, I suppose the amount of control over my files was not much different than with an iPad, but I was really expecting more - especially with the SD card use. However, it seems like the old desktop is on there pretty much for show (or a false sense of control) - I couldn't really do anything there that I couldn't do in the Metro section.

I really wanted to like it, though. I got a new Windows phone, and updated our home computers to W8, and thought this would be the ideal in-between. But the way it turns out, I think I can do more on my phone than I can on RT!

As I said, I loved the hardware (yes, past tense - I just had to return it). Nice & lightweight - great battery life - loved the feature of the battery in the keyboard - nice & snappy response. I'm looking mostly at the Asus Vivotabs with the standard W8 at this point.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

Sorry to hear Windows 8 RT didn’t work out for you. There are nice things about it, but it is pretty limited if you were expecting a fully functioning Windows. I like to say it’s the IOS equivalent for Microsoft. It’s fun to use and have its advantages, but still limited. A lot of people do like its functionality, though, so there is a market for it. We do offer a VivoTab that runs full Windows 8 if you are interested. Check it out. If you have any questions about any of our products, please feel free to e-mail me at cl-tien@asus.com. I’ll be happy to answer any questions that you might have.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat School Tablet!

Pros: I am a pretty big fan of ASUS and I have to say this is a very good product. I have read and seen just about every type of review out there between the Surface and the Vivo. I have to say, I am very happy with my selection in getting this as a school tablet. With the docking keyboard, its like a netbook, but with so much more battery life.

I love using this for school, currently in a grad program, and the multi-tasking on this is awesome. I pull up the powerpoint and a word file at the same time and get to take notes while looking at everything right in front of me. I would like to point out that this is the one main advantage this OS has ahead of Apple and Android OSs. It does actually have the full version of Microsoft Office. Nothing else can compare on any of the other tablets. The other apps that are sold are good for minor edits and quick adjustments on the go. On this tablet, with the full suite, you can start a paper or presentation from scratch and finish it. It really allows you to be mobile with your work.

With the WiFi, I can go online anytime and access any of my work. Also, you have direct access to both Asus and Microsoft Cloud with this device, you only have skydrive with the Surface. Note 3.0 is a nice little feature but I think it still has some bugs to work out but this tablet does have a lot of potential.

Yes, the Surface has a kickstand, but honestly, how often are you at a table. You will most likely not be in the most conducive position to hold the surface on your lap. The dock actually props it up and holds it tight. I can walk around holding the dock in the bottom, you can't do that with the surface. For a Windows RT platform, it is great and performs smoothly. Try to get it on a deal, because once its the same price as the Surface, I say buy it! I just recently picked up the sweet deal that makes it come with a free dock, minus another 100. For gaming, its not all there mainly because of the OS on it. I am not going to hit this tablet for that, it's not ASUS fault for the OS, Microsoft just needs to start stepping it up. Also, the surface DOES NOT have the battery life of this tablet once it does have the dock. Used it all one day and felt comfortable doing so!

Personally, I do consider this a better platform then Surface mainly because the tablet itself and more hand-portable to me and a lighter frame. Some people say that is a poor build quality, I just disagree because I enjoy the lightness of it. The product is sturdy enough and for what you get out of it, I do like it very much. It also has a GPS and the NFC ability. The GPS is a funny advantage but when me and my wife are driving around, I can give it to her and it's better then her 4" screen on her cell. You may ask, 'How do you make it work on the road without 3g/4g?' I simply say, mobile hotspot. A lot of cell phones have this as a free service now, so a 3g/4g tablet to me is overrated, just save the money!

Read 'Other Thoughts'

Cons: I don't have any Cons on this tablet, it has performed very well and smoothly. So, to me, the tablet itself is in great working conditions and am excited to see the Windows OS develop more on it!

Other Thoughts: The only thing that has kept this tablet from really moving forward at an extreme level is Windows RT. I think as Windows develops its OS and ASUS understands it more, this tablet will be at the top for the Windows RT competition. I think Windows RT is a great direction for another kind of OS but it is still too new.

If you are looking for a gaming tablet or something more fun, don't get this. I repeat, do not buy this for entertainment AT ALL!! This is a great PRODUCTIVE tablet, but for now, that's it. If I were you, stick to either one of the Apple or Android based OS tablets. Unless you are willing to wait for it to improve, you will get mad at this tablet quickly if you buy it for gaming and entertainment purposes. I have been hunting around for games on it and really... nothing to mention worth getting...

Hope this all helps you guys out in deciding if this is right for you!
