5 out of 5 eggsGreat for my needs!

Pros: I'll admit I did not buy this tablet at Newegg I was browsing my local BB when I ran across this and after using it for a good 20 minutes I was hooked. I looked up Newegg's price for it and they matched it instore when they verified Newegg's price so that was a plus.

The tablet itself is nice. The build quality is really good. Some people state the textured plastic strip on the back is a downside but I actually like it because it serves a purpose. Makes it easier to undock the tablet from the keyboard. Without it just gripping smooth aluminum when the hinge is closed would be a bit of a challenge. I have no problems with Windows RT I knew what I was in for before even walking into BB when it comes to RT. The display is nice though it doesn't pack that many pixels in as some other high end tablets but it gets the job done. I don't stare into my tablet from less than an inch away like apparently some people to make the pixels out so I don't mind the resolution. The screen is fairly bright though you gotta hunt around to turn the stupid auto brightness off in the Windows Setting to truly turn the screen up.

Performance is rather good. Can't believe I'm saying this but navigating the main menu seems smoother than doing it on any Android device I've had including 4.2 devices. Where the tablet starts to stumble a bit performance wise is when it's in desktop mode. Rendering can take a bit longer but it's not like I'm waiting ages when it lags out and it doesn't do it all the time so I'm fine with that.

The keyboard dock is brilliant. It's what swinged me away from the Surface RT. It has more feedback than that TouchCover thing and about the same as the Typing Cover for the Surface BUT the Vivotab Dock has a battery. I was able to eek out about 17 hours on the tablet with the dock before it shut down. Can't say I'd trust the Surface RT to do that. Some people say the keyboard is cramped though and I can see that but all 6ft 4in of me and my hands can work it just fine after only a couple hours of usage so YMMV when it comes to just how "cramped" the keyboard really is.

Cons: Windows RT is................. limited........ to say the least. If you go to Windows RT expecting a full blown desktop that can run any EXE you throw at it you will be disappointed. Only Windows Store apps. It has your Office Pre-Installed and does come with an "almost" full version of Internet Explorer 10 but parts of me wish there was a different video player you can get from the store and a different web browser but alas so far nothing. This is still an evolving platform and it is just in it's very early stages. Android and IOS weren't exactly when they were launched but they got better and that's my hope with Windows RT.

Tocuhpad on the keyboard dock can be easily hit by mistake while typing but Function + F9 solves that seeing as you have a touch screen anyway.

Sound is a tad too quiet but there are two speakers though they are facing the wrong way. Come on Asus let me crank those two speakers up some more!!!

Lastly the latch to release the tablet from the keyboard dock comes un-done all the time in my backpack especially when the latch is facing the ground so the tablet is sort of half way out and I'm super paranoid it will get scratched up. Hasn't yet thankfully. Wish I could sort of have a lock switch I had to hit before pushing the release latch.

Other Thoughts: Some may be weirded out that you can't connect this to your desktop/laptop and mount it as an external drive but you can always load your music/videos/whatever up on a MicroSD Card and or USB Drive for that matter and transfer them over.

Have read on some forums that the "cheap" plastic strip on the back may be to solve wifi/cellular antenna issues other Transformer Tablets that this is clearly based on has. My Wifi Performance was always stellar with this but my friend's Transformer Infinity has a bit of a hard time connecting to my Wifi sometimes.

1 out of 5 eggsNever buy ASUS

Pros: I'm hard pressed to come up with one right now. See the Cons.

Cons: First off, I was unable to get the promised dock with this unit. ASUS blamed the Vendor, the Vendor blamed ASUS. We went round and round until I gave up. Without the dock certain functions are very difficult to accomplish because of the way the touch input works. The free dock promo is now over but it left a very bad taste in my mouth which got worse when:

The touch screen went crazy. There are phantom presses on the screen which happened after an update by ASUS. I can no longer even log in from the welcome screen, because the phantom touches are activating keypresses which mess up the password. Apparently this is a known issue which requires you to return the tablet to ASUS AT YOUR OWN EXPENSE. You can find this problem reported all over the internet, especially in the ASUS specific forums. Why ASUS doesn't just roll back the update is a mystery to me.

ASUS customer support is a joke. Stay far, far away.

Other Thoughts: I cannot see myself ever purchasing an ASUS product ever again. It has been a truly awful experience. Look elsewhere is my advice!

1 out of 5 eggsONE WORD "JUNK"

Pros: Nice tablet other then WIFI issues.

Cons: WIFI just plain sucks. No good driver support tried different drivers and different router settings and multiple tablet resets and could never get a stable connection. Tablet one foot from router could only get 65 mbps. Move 10 feet away from router and dropped to 19 mbps. Not even close to 802.11 N and not even close to 802.11 G. I have 26 different things hooked to router and 14 are wireless and all get full speed and I have Comcast 105/20 service. ASUS FIX THE PROBLEM! Paper weight without WIFI! 2 days of my time wasted. Thanks!

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

I apologize for the issues that you are having with your Wifi. The most recent, and most stable networking driver for the TF600 is the Broadcom version .67. Please make sure that’s the one you are using in your Device Manager. If the driver is up-to-date, and the multiple factory resets does not work, please e-mail me at cl-tien@asus.com for further assistance. I’ll be more than happy to help get your tablet working the way it should.

Best Regards,

Tien

5 out of 5 eggsnice

Pros: price and being a quad core speed.

Cons: This windows 8 Rt is more like andriod windows 8,because it would allow me to install a a mid range game like RUNESCAPE.

Other Thoughts: It would be better if they would load a real windows 7 or 8 version.

4 out of 5 eggsOK

Pros: fast nice works well

Cons: Doesnt play a simple game called runescape because the version of windows 8.So this tells me it's not really windows 8 it simular and made to look like it.

Other Thoughts: If they are going to make it windows 8 it should be able to do what the normal windows 8 does which shouldnt be hard cause the specs should run most med lvl games easy

5 out of 5 eggsNice, Everyday Tablet

Pros: Very portable, good size screen, windows 8 RT, touch screen, fast boot up, price and Office 2013. I had originally purchased a DELL, but when they jacked up the order and could not fix it, I returned it and then order this one. I had ordered one of these before, but cancelled the order due to Windows 8 RT. Then I decided, based on the price and free keyboard. Okay, set up was easy, all accounts configured with no issues. My Windows 8 apps from my other Win8 pcs, installed with no issues, My son loves it, he can move thur it with no issues and his is 3.5 years old. If you are looking for a Window 8 Tablet and not looking a running any additional apps, this a great tablet. Plus it comes with Office 2013.

Cons: Windows 8 RT, is the only issue I had, but knowing it came with RT, I can not install any other programs on this table, but I have my Thinkpad Tablet 2, so I am good.

Other Thoughts: If you have kids, smaller kids, get the accidential damage, a low cost insure to protect your investment. Being a IT Professional and and A+ Certified Repairer, I would not want to repair this tablet, it would cost too much to repair, and my prices for desktop/notebook repair are very low.
