5 out of 5 eggsExcellent

Pros: Windows 8 with free upgrade to 8.1. Upgrade went fine for me with no glitches. Responsive touch screen and faster than my wife's IPAD 2. Versatile micro USB port which you can use to charge or to connect DVD drive. Contrary to other reviews an external powered DVD drive works fine and you don't need a HUB. A hub wouldn't be a good idea with a tablet PC. Bluetooth works great and I use a Bluetooth mouse with mine when at home. Micro HDMI port is also a nice plus

Cons: Would be nice if there were two USB ports but there is only so much you can put in a Tablet.....just ask IPAD owners what kind of I/O they have! The optional keyboard's touchpad is less than optimal like many of those on notebooks but is functional.

2 out of 5 eggsHorrible customer service

Pros: Slim, light, and decent capacity. I even put Office 13 on it and Visual Studio (which it could handle). The ability to add a MicroSD is useful. Able to connect to bluetooth.

Cons: The bluetooth drops frequently. I'll be using it and suddenly the mouse will quit. I have to restart to get it to work. The speaker is in a terrible place and sounds very monotone.

Other Thoughts: I accidentally dropped this onto the concrete one day and unfortunately it cracked the screen despite it being in a folding case. I first tried to fix it myself but Asus has too many different screens for this model and you have to have the correct one. I called for an RMA and got one approved. It's been 3 weeks since they've had it and the status continues to reflect "awaiting customer response". I've called at least once a week and each time I get told, "you will recieve and email in 24-48 hours'. Never happens. I check all my folders daily for "asus". I have chatted, called, and emailed and still keep getting the same formula response. Their service is deplorable and I WILL NEVER BUY AN ASUS PRODUCT AGAIN!

1 out of 5 eggsTouchpad response sporadic

Pros: Good display and price

Cons: Dear Tien (with Asus Customer Loyalty under Manufacturer response in several previous posts)
The touchpad response was so poor I had difficulty even getting windows 8 started but kept working at it thinking that it might be fixed by calibration after setup.. Please explain how to accomplish the procedure you describe in previous responses . i.e. "go into Desktop Mode and then Settings" to find the "option to calibrate and reset the touch screen settings". Also please describe the method to "go into PC Settings and ... reset the tablet". I am willing to try to get it working properly but currently the touchpad response is so intermittent and poor that I will return this tablet unless it can be improved.

3 out of 5 eggsIt Is what It Is

Pros: Looks nice

Cons: Only 1 USB port that requires a USB OTG cable to make work for any thing but charging. Will only charge with the ASUS Charger. Win 8 seems to be not complete in that some settings are missing and I i have been unable to make a restore or repair CD/USB. Required an external powered USB hub to connect CD/DVD drive and that means you cannot charge and use USB port at the same time.

Other Thoughts: First foray into tablet and Win 8. I am pretty good with computers, but this win 8 version seems a little strange> I support Family and friends with computer issues and I am having trouble with this win 8 version (small screen touch?)

1 out of 5 eggsJunk

Pros: Small, Lightweight, Decent Battery life, Bluetooth

Cons: Can't find parts anywhere, slow, freezes, ASUS customer support, doesn't have Windows 8 PRO

We bought this to test out the Windows 8 Tablets. First glance it was neat. It has Windows 8, not Windows 8 RT, and not Windows 8 Professional. Had to pay an additional $100 in order to upgrade it.

It freezes all the time and it is very slow.

User dropped it and broke the digitizer only and not the LCD. I searched high and low on google, and no one stocks it any longer. ASUS is getting out of the tablet business, and that may be why no one can get it. As a last restort, I called ASUS. They said they do not sell only the digitizer, but rather as a whole LCD display, and it was $150 +$10 shipping. I let the boss know, he said to fix it. I called them back today to order the part AFTER I pulled it apart already, and they told me they will NOT sell the parts alone, we HAVE to send it in if we want it fixed, and labor on it was $75 not including the shipping to them, pushing to around $235 to repair the tablet. This is outrageous to pay to fix a dang digitizer....

If you want to access parts in case it gets dropped, don't buy an ASUS.

Other Thoughts: Wouldn't recommend this tablet at all...go for a different one...check out to see if parts are available through a 3rd party before buying one.

1 out of 5 eggsDefective unit - defective support

Pros: Full Windows 8, not Windows 8 RT.

Cons: Defective unit. Awful customer support.

Other Thoughts: I'll start by saying I'm a rather forgiving guy. We all make mistakes. I'll continue by saying Asus was my brand of choice. I have two Asus monitors that work great, an Asus mouse, and an Asus motherboard. I've bought various other Asus products over the last decade or two. No more.

I bought an Asus router (yeah, I know, this is a tablet review, but bear with me). It would disconnect frequently. Per their request, I RMA'ed it. They sat on the unit for 3 weeks after they received it. Nothing happened until a service rep followed up directly with their repair warehouse. I got it back, it's worked well ever since. Okay, one mistake, no problem. All's forgiven. I moved on.

I buy this tablet two months ago. It worked okay for a week. It developed a problem where you hit the power button, the screen would turn off for 2 seconds, come on for a second, and then turn off. When turning the screen on from sleep, the unit would sometimes power up the screen for a second, then immediately go back to sleep. The problem was sporradic but grew increasingly more frequent until the screen would no longer power up. RMA #1 - the screen powered up. The problem with off-on-off behavior still happened. RMA #2 - they replace the LCD screen and "fix it." I get it back, the problem still happens with no change in frequency. It's like they didn't even test it to see if they fixed it. They just tried something, powered the screen on once, and hoped it would work. They want me to send it back in for RMA #3 and won't offer me any assurance of a proper fix nor even swallow the piece of junk and send me a new one. I have to hope their repair warehouse people somehow learned to do their job and repair it or decide they can't fix it and send me a new one. No guarantees and my warranty time is ticking away. Of two whole months since buying this thing, it's been in my possession for about 8-9 days (it seemed to perform well despite screen issues in that time). Plenty of apologies, no results, and no complimentary items/discounts/vounchers to make up for awful service. They "graciously" picked up my shipping costs on the second round and are doing so for the third as well. Whoa, talk about generous! Due to Asus's shenanigans, I'm beyond my window to return this piece of garbage.

The moral of the story: Asus will not simply replace your unit if you buy one that is defective. You're at their mercy to get the repair right, which my experience suggests is unlikely. Their customer support is completely impotent and will only tell you to send it in.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing

Pros: Light, sexy, long battery life, full windows8, free ms office license, gr8 screen.

I have been looking at and trying out tablets since the first IPad and I have always ended up returning them after a few days because I could never get productivity I desired from any of them.

Both android and IOS lack the ability to really multi task and also pack basic productivity features rendering those devices only good for media consumption.

I spend my entire day in front of a computer and wanted something small and portable that had the same productivity as my desktop pc. I HAVE FINALY FOUND IT.

This tablet a long with WIN8 can do everything my pc does and its super portable, fast enough, and sexy as my gf. I don't understand why people don't like WIN8, I have been using it for a few months on my desktop and have loved how fast it it; Using win8 on a tablet now I can really see its true potential.

It took me 3 years to finally not return a tablet after a week of use. This Asus will be with me for a while and I love her, kudos to Asus and Microsoft for getting it right. I force windows8 making a big splash in the tablet marketplace the next few years once people figure out how much more useful full windows is on a tablet.

Also almost forgot I bought this at a brick and mortar retailer who price matched an online price I found for $399. I love Newegg and I buy most items from here but couldn't beat that price (also bundled with Ms office).

Cons: Only one I can think of is the speaker is complete trash but its a tablet obv I just use headphones.

Also maybe having another usb port would be nice. It only has one micro usb port so if your charging the device you cannot connect anything to it.

3 out of 5 eggsGood-ish tablet

Pros: It is lightweight, uses windows 8, and I can sync my desktop with it. I also bought the transleeve keyboard and it's very convenient for school.

Cons: It tends to get really warm on the back of the tablet where the Windows and atom stickers are when it is turned on. There were a few times where it was hot enough, it burned me. ( I'm pretty sure that's not normal.) Also, there were a few times I had to reset the whole tablet because it froze or stopped working correctly.

Other Thoughts: Even with the resets and the heat issue I kept the tablet since I didn't have the time to exchange it or anything.

3 out of 5 eggsFaulty batch of tablets?

Pros: I have covered all the pros from a previous review

Cons: Please see other thoughts.

Other Thoughts: I'm adding a follow up to my previous review. I mentioned I had to RMA the tablet back to Newegg, due to a faulty digitizer (the center of the screen was completely dead to the touch). Now, after very minimal use, the Windows capacitive button has stopped working. I believe a few previous reviewers mentioned this issue.

I will be contacting ASUS to RMA this tablet, again. I am a little put off, by the fact I already paid return shipping once for an RMA to Newegg, and will have to pay return shipping AGAIN to ASUS.

When the tablet doesn't have hardware issues, it is a great "standard" Windows 8 tablet. I have lowered my rating from 5 eggs to 3, due to faulty hardware.

I am truly disappointed by this tablet's lack of quality and faulty mechanics. This was the first ASUS device I have purchased, and unfortunately, it appears it will be the last.

Well, at least they make good motherboards.
