Incredible Beauty

The ZENBOOK uses a precision-crafted design measuring only 3mm at the front and 9mm at the rear. The form features razor thin edges and a curved center section, which is both practical and attractive - while accommodating the powerful computing components within, this design also looks totally unique. It embodies beauty and strength in complete balance and harmony.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat laptop

Pros: The keyboard is actually really good - if you know how to type properly. A touch typist used to a lighter resistance keyboard is going to have problems on this. I have never run into any issues with mistypes on this particular setup.

The processor is awesome, and it packs a good punch for everything I need. The most intensive program I use is Adobe LightRoom 5, and I can process photos easily.

There is more than enough room on the 128gb hard drive and I can't really justify using any more memory on a laptop. If you need more space, buy memory sticks and keep them in your laptop bag. It's way more cost efficient and organized, in my opinion.

Graphics wise, this can run League of Legends at a decent enough clip. This is not a gaming laptop, but it runs mid tier games as well as a comparably priced desktop.

Boot time is 6-8 seconds, cold. Wake speeds are 0-2 seconds. This laptop does not fool around when you need it on.

Lastly, I need to mention the display. Stunning 1600x900 display puts out very good video quality. I've watched hours of youtube on this machine and I've never been disappointed with the view quality. The contrast and color is stunning, and the color reproduction is stellar for use as a field photo processor. Great for the traveling photographer. Response times are good, and there's no latency that is noticeable at all.

Cons: There is only really one con to speak of - the track pad.

The left click functionality is difficult. I need to position my finger directly over the correct area to activate left click, which is exactly 3/4 of the way to the left, right in the middle of the marked area. Literally anywhere else you hard-click, the left click is not activated.

Frustrating, yes. The work around is to use a soft touch, which seems to work best for me; turning this into a minor inconvenience.

Other Thoughts: Overall a good product. I would recommend this to any prospective laptop buyers. Especially for someone who needs a highly portable machine that will not wither away from processing tasks.

This would be perfect for a college student, as it is portable, and has adequate HD space.

This laptop is superior to the Mac Air of the same year. It's lower priced, faster processing, and same HD size.

My earlier review, I can regrettably not remove. I did have a problem charging this laptop about a week after purchase, yet ASUS was quick to respond and help me rectify the situation. I did not need to REM this device, thankfully, but the option was there if I needed it.

1 out of 5 eggsDC adapter problems.

Pros: Beautiful laptop, great keyboard; despite other reviews I read. Well made, light, portable, sleek, perfect alternative to a mac air. But......

Cons: The laptop became a 650$ paperweight in less than a month, and it's all because of the DC adapter that is SOLDERED onto the motherboard. Obviously I am unable to fix this myself, and purchasing a fix is unacceptable for a brand new refurb. I bought a refurbished laptop. I was supposed to get a working device. Instead, i got a useless piece of junk that I will now HAVE to attempt to RMA. Simple summary, DC adapter died almost immediately, and that is just completely out of line.

Other Thoughts: I'd love this laptop if it wasn't completely broken. Someone help me PLEASE.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Joe,

It's good to know that you are satisfied with the laptop. I apologize if the DC jack is broken. ASUS provide warranty for the product. If you need further help sending the unit in for service, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and write down service# 3541103 on the subject line.

Thank you for choosing an ASUS product.

Regards,

Rodel

1 out of 5 eggsLet the Buyer Beware

Pros: It looks pretty, runs quiet, and is a million times faster than my previous computer, a netbook which was on the verge of a hard drive failure. It's nice to have a big screen again.

Cons: As other reviewers have noted, the keyboard is very sticky, and you will make about one typo per sentence, minimum, if you don't really hit the keys hard. The touchpad, on the other hand, is oversensitive and frequently gets confused about whether you are right- or left-clicking. Of the two USB ports, one is already broken, and I've owned the computer only three months. It runs very hot (I've gotten up to 85C internal temp with SpeedFan; average seems to be the low 60s). Programs crash abruptly and apparently at random; the graphics card has issues; and three times (at least) the computer has shut off by itself without warning, once while asleep; none of the shut-offs appear heat related.

Naturally, none of these problems (beyond the sticky keys/oversensitive mouse) appeared until after the 30-day return period finished.

Other Thoughts: I don't know if I just got a bad egg (if you pardon the pun), but beyond the annoyance of the mouse and keyboard, the other issues have made this computer in need of replacement already - after only three months.

I've owned a lot of computers in my time. I don't put extreme demands on them. Yet the little I do with this computer seems to be too much for it. This easily is the worst computer I have ever owned. If you're considering this one and another, get the other one.

3 out of 5 eggsPlagued by wifi disconnections

Pros: Very thin, very light, boots fast, is quick with tasks, beautiful display,

Cons: Wifi card is faulty, cannot even sustain a 200 mb download before it gives up and disconnects. Wifi performance when it is working is slow. Keyboard keys need to be smacked to work.

5 out of 5 eggsNot sure what the others are talking about.

Pros: The laptop is stunning physically. It's quiet and stays cool.
Maybe the previous reviewers have more sensitive fingers then I do and less powerful wifi but to me the keyboard is great and wifi is 5 bars at all times.
I got the sandisk SSD, the one that people are whining about comparing it to the Adata that Asus used in some of the l UX31s. Meh. My laptop is snappy and plays WOW at high graphics with no problem.
This is a great deal. 850.00 for a model that was previously 1300.00? I'm very happy with this purchase.

Cons: Newegg did not include the wall plug for the power cord. Still waiting for it. In the meantime I bought one that fit for 10 bucks.

Other Thoughts: Like any other new laptop this one takes abit of getting used too. For the price it's a great value.

3 out of 5 eggsKeyboard is not good, otherwise - great machine

Pros: fast; light;

Cons: the keyboard's sensitivity is definitely an issue. And if you type fast - you will notice the difference in no time. Slow reaction to typing and some letters do not appear in the text if you are not ttentive enough. Attentive.

1 out of 5 eggsthe keyboard is disgusting

Pros: fair price, ultra thin

Cons: I just want to say this is the worst laptop ive ever had, because
1. keyboard reaction is slow while touchpad is over sensitive. you will get very anoyed when you are typing a paper.
2. wifi connection is very weak( i dont know if this is a common problem for asus)
3. shipping is slow. It took me almost 10 days to get this while it said two days shipping. And now i can't return it.
4. it looks like being used when i received this laptop cuz an"intel" lable tag was half removed from keyboard.
however, the worst of all, the keyboard!

Other Thoughts: i just want to return it. and i dont suggest you buy it
