5 out of 5 eggsGreat

Pros: Works great, upgraded the WIFI card to an Intel Centrino Dualband N6200. Restored the Recovery partition with the changehd.exe file in the Asus folder, run it as admin. Then created the recovery DVDs, it took 2 DL. Then ran the DVD restore worked perfect. I don't know why Asus doesn't let refurb buyers know they can do this.

Cons: Junk Wifi card.

5 out of 5 eggsIt's beautimus

Pros: Fast, cool, works perfectly.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: I haven't messed with any of the OC options. Kinda dropped out of that game a year or two ago... though it was fun while it lasted.

4 out of 5 eggsLove It

Pros: Needed a new computer for school, since my last one crapped out on me and was overall a piece of junk.

Very satisfied. It does what it needs to do and then some more. Touchpad is not as sensitive as other ASUS products.

Cons: No backlight keyboard. Arrived with slight scratch on the screen.

Other Thoughts: I'd recommend this to a friend. It's nice to feel like I have a reliable computer again.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: My grandmother was in desperate need of a new computer and this fit the bill perfectly, it is actually probably over kill for what she uses it for, but its a major upgrade from her old windows Vista machine.

Cons: no cons for my grandma, it goes on facebook and runs her greeting card program. good deal for its price.

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic PC

Pros: Superfast boot-up, Windows Performance Index is very high for a notebook. Easy to configure. Light weight, quick battery adjustment mode between performance and life.

Cons: needed to remove Trend Micro and Office 2010 Trial Software.

Other Thoughts: I recommeded this to a friend who needed a good laptop. They didn't want to go the Win 8 route yet. I set it up for her today, loading Avira, Spybot, MalwareBytes, Office 2007, Adobe Photoshop, and networked it to her home system. She was thrilled with the performance and since I put an Asus Router/Repeater... she gets great internet range with this unit anywhere in their large home.

5 out of 5 eggsAsus K53E Laptop

Pros: Looks and works like a champ, I also own an Asus U50F laptop very similar to the K53E

Cons: Doesn't have the reinstall partition, it's just a plain OEM install with Asus drivers and utilities added

5 out of 5 eggsAs Described

Pros: I wanted to test this out for my uses before making my review. I've done that over the last week and change, so here goes.

First off, I upgraded immediately out of the box to Win 8 Pro. Everything seems to work fine after updating the drivers. The only noticeably fail was the BIOS update not recognizing the K53E as a legitimate ASUS.

I then decided to test out gaming performance (as I wanted something capable of running games half decently). I know a lot of new titles that require DX11 cannot run on the hardware. However, this little fellow manages to power EVE Online at Full-High Detail with all effects at 25-30 FPS easy. Considering that was the majority of my gaming it was more than an impressive increase over my previous laptop who struggled at Medium-Low detail at 20 FPS. Given it's not a true gaming laptop, but given the right conditions it can hold its own.

Next test was multi-tasking. If you reading this review know a bit about EVE, it can become multi-program intensive: Excel, Docs, Database, you name it. We use the whole suite of Office products. Combining those with the aforementioned configuration on my EVE client caused no noticeable hiccup in performance except in the rare case of intense load server side. So in short, the 8GB is plenty adequate, considering it is the max supported.

All in all I'm quite pleased.

Cons: The only downsides are poor manufacturer support for Win8 Pro, but this system is sold and designed for Win7 so I can understand how this complaint would be shuffled off.

4 out of 5 eggsDecent product

Pros: Fast, sturdy, compliant. Can't ask for a better laptop for the price! I love ASUS laptops, but they do have a reputation for their extremely sensitive touchpads. The K53E fortunately doesn't have that problem, at least not that I can tell.

Cons: Power plug-in is oddly placed in the middle of the left side.

1 out of 5 eggsWRONG HD - 250HD instead of 750HD

Pros: Machine runs most applications quickly after a considerable wait time while apps are loading -

Cons: The description indicates a 750 GB hard drive - It shipped with a 250 GB Western Digital 5400 RPM - Seriously!- Who uses 5400RPM drives any more? Its sad just how long it takes to load apps --

Other Thoughts: Cant believe the units description and actual devices are different - especially since the unit is a ASUS referb -
