3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Came perfectly new and smooth no scratches despite the carelessness in the packaging but still nice. Everything ran smoothly and easy.

Cons: The charge for the laptop came broken and I used up the whole laptops battery which made it unusable until replaced.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

Thank you for sharing your review on the K55N laptop.

I am sorry the laptop arrived defective. It is always disappointing when a new device doesn't work out of the box. I am glad the device was replaced, and I am sure everything will work correctly with the replacement laptop.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat for the price, AMAZING REFERB

Pros: Nice video chipset although limited on vram
4 cores
soundcard isn't too bad at driving headphones
Bios unlock, but came with windows seven anyway!
skyrim/bioshock infi at medium just fine 45fps
rocks adobe cs6 with no issues
I felt as If I had received a brand new unit

Cons: Dvd drive died after 6 months, easy replace
1.9 ghz is not enough for more intense games, even on minimum settings, but laptop and a cheap one at that
this laptop is as hot as whats around it, hot room? run 70C on google hangout
the battery lock finds it's way unlocked every day

Other Thoughts: I locked myself out of the EFI (bios) and there is no way but for me to dive into the deep memories of what the **** I was thinking locking that up
intel ssd and a 10 sec boot time
stock ram seems to be signed and un-replaceable, got an extra 4gig stick now
still 8 gigs, just mismatched CAS

4 out of 5 eggsCould have gotten 5

Pros: Great for the sub-400 price. If you wipe the bloat, it's a quick little machine for only having a 5400 RPM drive. People whining about the RAM don't realize single-channel and dual-channel isn't terribly noticeable. It's more than enough power for the price.

The real con is where Asus shines. Their drivers website has ALL applicable drivers for every product, and in the case of computers, all the software too. I downloaded all the drivers and software before I wiped to make sure it was all available, wiped the system, then re-installed all the ASUS drivers I wanted to make sure all the networking, audio, and AMD chips would work properly.

Cons: Could have gotten 5 stars except the Windows 7 that came with it had its product key over-used by the previous owner, probably on other machines, and thus the key would not validate at all. Had to wipe the entire thing and re-install my own Windows 7, which also leads into the pros. The only other problem that helps take away a star is the onboard wifi is terrible. I have to be plugged in to my gigabit network to see any real speed, or if I need wireless I'm forced to use my $10 rosewill wireless N adaptor which never drops out on my network. The onboard wifi fails to connect or drops out like nothing else.

Other Thoughts: This was definitely a huge buy when it was available, but sadly it's probably gone now making all of this moot.

5 out of 5 eggsThis was a great idea!

Pros: This thing works great. Beautiful screen and runs very quick. I purchased another 4GB stick of ram for it for an additional $25 and it was well worth it. This laptop is light, functional, and has all the features you need. Plus it is Windows 7 and those are getting hard to find at a good price

Cons: The touchpad is not good. I turned it off and bought a wireless mouse. Now all is right in the world.

Other Thoughts: You need to buy this!

5 out of 5 eggsGood deal

Pros: The laptop might as well of been brand new in the box (NIB) There were no scratches on the case or screen and the laptop was clean for a refurbished one. Everything works like new and for being a lower end laptop performs quit well. It also came with windows 7 64bit OS

Cons: The laptop didn't come with any documentation or manuals but those tend to go into a drawer to be forgotten or the trash bin so it's not much of a negative

Other Thoughts: I bought this as a gift for an elderly family friend who had to move to an assisted living home and didn't have enough space for her desktop. She loves the new laptop and is working great for her.

5 out of 5 eggsHappy Customer

Pros: As this is my first laptop I didn't really know what all I would be getting myself in for. Had this for about 3 months. No scratches, dings or anything. Loads pretty fast, but not as fast as my pc though. Able to play NFS The Run with full settings. Plays HD movies ease. Webcam works pretty good on Skype and recordings are good, but could be better. Everything else seems to be working great with it.

Cons: Touch pad is to large and sensitive and gets in the way when you want to type. A wireless mouse and disabled the touch pad took care of that.

4 gigs of ram will do in a pinch but upgraded to 8 gigs of 1600.

5400 HD is slow and will be upgrading to a 7200 next.

Asus bioware. Thanks to a nasty virus I got ( surfing the web, nothing to do with the laptop ) had to format and got rid of it all.

4 out of 5 eggsVery Pleased

Pros: All following refers by necessity only to the unit I received:

- Grade A Stock. Unblemished, I would have been happy with this as a new unit
- Attractive shell - kind of carbon-fibery and cleans up easily
- Fired right up
- Networking is phenomenal. Better than any of the other 4 units in the network. It picks up buses going by, which I've never seen
- Came with Win 8
- Received it via free shipping in only 2 days
- Performance per dollar is fantastic with additional discount

Cons: Any Cons are nitpicky, but that's why we're here:

- Glossy screen. Image quality is fine, but not my preference
- No Bluetooth
- DVD-RW seems a little flimsy, but works fine
- Had a UEFI Bios moment when I changed boot options, and it took repeated attempts at enabling Compatibility Module to get the bios to recognize the bootable drives - but it did eventually stick. Not a fan of the UEFI / Recovery system present in most new laptops
- Still working on getting AMD Overdrive "Turbo Control" to function properly. Boosts to 2.3Ghz, but should go to 2.8Ghz

Other Thoughts: I am astounded by the performance available for less than what I paid for an E-350 laptop-lite 2 years ago. Night and day. I am utilizing this as a music workstation, and it far exceeds the capabilities of the 1.6Ghz dual-core I was using.
I added 4Gigs of RAM I happened to have, and re-imaged an SSD as the primary drive (both easily accessible in the case). I would not have wanted to use it in the stock configuration, but as noted it did fire up great right out of the box.

1 out of 5 eggsWretched thing

Pros: It turns on for the first month or two.

Cons: The mouse pad is too big, which makes it impossible to type. It gets hot and overheats, screen turns yellow. Randomly turns off, freezes. Was sometimes not turning on, now won't turn on at all.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback on your laptop. I am very sorry that you have had issues with your computer not turning on. It seems like your computer is having several different issues. As you mentioned, It does seem as though the heat might be causing the issues.

Does your computer have random restarts etc. when the computer is first turned on? I am thinking that it might your computer protecting itself from overheating. Without having the laptop sent in to be looked at, there is no way to be for sure on this though.

You mentioned also that the device itself will not turn on anymore, has this problem continued?

Please let me know by email including your model and serial number in the email, and I will be happy to assist you further. I can be reached at cl-mark@asus.com.

Best regards,
Mark

4 out of 5 eggsOverall Great Pc

Pros: Fast Processor, Great Graphics Card, Great for Gaming, Very little Start up Maintenance, plays my Sims 3 an all Expansions on all High Settings.

Cons: Only 4GB RAM, Slow Hard Drive

Other Thoughts: I like my Laptops to have about 4 to 6 GB of Ram but even though it only has 4GB of Ram I just bought another 4GB of Ram for $30.00, an in time I will buy it a 7200 RPM HD which will make it an amazing Laptop. For the price this is a decent priced Laptop. I looked for a month at Laptops before I bought this one.

4 out of 5 eggsGood

Pros: Good laptop. Has a nice big screen and the full keyboard with Number-pad. Runs at an average temp and is quite quiet.

Cons: Had to return my first order because it was continually locking up for no apparent reason. Second arrived a few days ago and is working very well.

The 4 gigs single channel of ram that comes with it just doesn't cut it for me.

Other Thoughts: Overall this laptop is a very good buy for under $400.00. Highly recommend upgrading the RAM to 8 gigs. It runs ok with 4 but will slow quickly under a load.

Note: The RAM is 204-pin. (had a hard time finding the PIN so I thought I would mention it)
