3 out of 5 eggsNot that bad.

Pros: Nice build quality, ok processor speed, about average GPU. Good screen. Good motherboard. Has driver support for Win7.

Cons: Fingers slip off keys alot. Windows freaking 8. Multi-gesture touchpad is a joke. Webcam is just advertising B.S. Which is expected, since it's such a small camera. Built-in mic is pretty bad since it captures every single background noise and then amplifies it. (It even picks up the computer fan kicking in). Not enough USB ports. I plug in my mouse and headset when playing games, which leaves no room for anything else unless I plug in a USB port divider. I don't exactly like the placement of the speakers, even if it supposedly makes the sound louder.

Other Thoughts: Overall, It's an ok laptop. I bought this to replace a 6-year-old laptop that I got for a small price from my brother, (which fell down the stairs, which damaged the motherboard). It's still not my first recommendation for a new laptop. This site sells much better ones that are refurbished for a better price. I'd recommend doing that instead. I am glad, however that this one actually worked fine, unlike some others who said the speakers didn't work and all that jazz. I am actually using this laptop right now, but I installed Ubuntu on it because I forgot my password for Win8 and I didn't make a password reset disk. I wouldn't recommend buying this one, even if it worked just fine for me. ASUS does make some good computer parts, so if you ever want to build a tower PC, buy ASUS.

Manufacturer Response:

3 out of 5 eggsGreat comp

Pros: Asus quality, hardware good for price

Cons: Win 8 or 8.1
Asus wont downgrade to Win7
Microsoft wont downgrade to Win7
This operating system is frustrating and even worse for a laptop with no touchscreen and if you are using the touchpad. Research the issues online, but even 8.1 doesnt offer some customization that I would like...I have to buy or install a third party program.
If you swipe the touchpad in the wrong way or are off by 1 mm you have MS stuff popping up every minute because your finger was off by a hair.

Other Thoughts: Asus has excellent products and I buy their motherboards and hardware.
I am good with computers but this is just a laptop that I want to work without all the bells and horrible whistles of Win8. I dont want to download and tweak it for it not not completely frustrate me.

I AM SERIOUSLY CONSIDERING COMPLETELY MOVING TO APPLE! Microsoft is herding people to conform and buy this Win8 OS and not even offering Win7 anymore. I realize why they do this but I dont care.
To everyone that says win8 is great and that I should learn it more: I did, it sucks for what I am doing, you are wrong, try it on this laptop and join my side :)

1 out of 5 eggsBig mistake buying this computer

Pros: Absolutely NONE!

Cons: I complained about the speakers not working and the keyboard/screen jumping all over the place. I got an email back on how to possibly fix it but now cannot even access the computer because the screen is just black. It flashes for a second and then goes black.

Other Thoughts: I wish I never bought this and I would have returned it immediately for my money back but unfortunately did not get to use it within the 1st month because I had to go out of state for my mother who got very sick and passed away. I got back excited to at least have a new computer to start using and it has been nothing but problems.!

1 out of 5 eggsSpeakers don't work

Pros: Can't think of any right now.

Cons: Speakers don't work even though the computer says they are functioning properly. Head phones don't work either.

Keyboard jumps all over the place.

Windows 8

Other Thoughts: If I were to purchase again, I would not have purchased this computer.

Manufacturer Response:

Greetings,

Thank you for reviewing the laptop.

The issues with your computer seems like it is due to not having the current drivers installed on the system. Specifically, you need the sound drivers, ASUS Smart Gesture (Touchpad Driver), and the ATKACPI driver and hotkey-related utilities. Once installed, most of the issues you mentioned should be fixed. For the touch pad, however, there are a couple more steps I would suggest.

Open the Smart Gesture program up and go into the Settings. Disable any of the advanced swiping gestures the program has activated and just keep the basic ones that you want to use. After adjusting the settings, you will find that the touchpad will be a lot more stable and less frustrating to use.

Should you need further assistance with the computer, please let me know through email at cl-mark@asus.com.

Regards,

Mark

1 out of 5 eggsdo not DO NOT *DO NOT* buy this laptop!!!!

Pros: the price is pretty good at first glance

Cons: the touchpad is a real challenge, and suffers from a defect that anifests when the power cord is plugged in to charge the battery. the mouse will go jumping around clicking on things randomly. when this happens do the following: unplug the power cord. that will immediately fix whatever power short is causing the mousepad to misbehave. however if the laptop is low on battery youll want to plug the power cord back in and use a USB mouse while it charges. be prepared to reboot your wireless router daily. the keyboard is difficult to use. the speakers are on the bottom of the laptop, muffled soundis the result. windows 8 is a challenge as well. all in all this is a very challenging laptop experience. to be quite frank you would be wise to choose a different laptop.

Other Thoughts: avoid this laptop!

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

I apologize for the issues that you are having with your laptop. If your mouse is only acting up when the power plug is in, try changing the power profiles on the computer. Change it so that the profile is the same regardless of if it is plugged in or not. See if that helps. If you would like further support, or if you have any other issues that would like addressed, please e-mail me at cl-tien@asus.com. I’ll be happy to help.

Best Regards,

Tien

1 out of 5 eggsNew Laptop

Pros: Windows 8 makes this computer un-usable. This device is a money trap. Don't buy it...EVER.

Cons: EVERYTHING! The hardware is as advertised, but the OS makes this thing a "Paperweight" at BEST...

Other Thoughts: Why would anyone EVER use Windows 8?

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

I apologize for your dissatisfaction with the laptop. Are you having any problems with the operating system? If you would like some assistance, I can be reached at cl-tien@asus.com. I’ll be more than happy to help make your laptop less of a “paperweight”.

Best Regards,

Tien

5 out of 5 eggsGood Laptop Overall

Pros: Good Specs for the price, runs very smoothly and it is great for school. Very light and great design i love the black design. I learned Windows 8 and it is not bad at all, although it has a learning curb, touch pad on it is nice and big.The best part of this computer is the i3 processor even though it is second gen it is still overall a great processor for the budget minded.

Cons: The battery is not as good it is Up to 4 hours but on the internet is more like 3 or so. The price is a little expensive.

2 out of 5 eggsASUS F55C-TH31

Pros: Works great on school...thats it...if it doesnt crash

Cons: IDK if i'm just bad luck and got the black sheep out of all the ASUS F55C-TH31 but this la ptop creashes over and over and over andover and over again. Its annoying. I think i wasted my money on this laptop; also, windows 8 sucks!

1 out of 5 eggsPLEASE DO NOT BUY THIS LAPTOP!

Pros: It has a nice look to it.

Cons: Almost everything. The windows continually does not respond. Most of the programs do not respond, leading to frozen screens. It does not allow me to play DVD's without freezing. When I close a web browser it will not allow me to reopen the web browser without restarting the computer. (I have tried Chrome, IE, and Opera) I have to restart the laptop about 10 times a day to be able to open the applications that I want.

Other Thoughts: I wanted an upgrade from my already slow PC, but I ended up with a downgrade. It may just be my laptop that is faulty, but I wouldn't take the chance on this laptop.

1 out of 5 eggsslow wi-fi

Pros: I like the computer so far with the exception of the speed. I bought a new computer because my old dell was getting very slow. This one is even slower when I try to search the internet or log into any internet site.
Dissappointed because the reason for the purchase was to speed up not slow down my access to the internet.

Cons: WIN 8 and speed
