5 out of 5 eggsFixed Problem

Pros: Good solid tablet, Kit Kat 4.4, good storage space, pretty good battery life. OTA capability. great looking screen etc.

Cons: not a 2013 model. only 1 camera

Other Thoughts: After 1 1/2 years my 10 yo son dropped it on the floor and I had a screen that would not display more than a bare glow when turned on. It seems some of the tabs are coming new with the same problem.
Mine was no longer under warranty so I looked on youtube and found out how to open the case and found the battery plug had pulled half way out. I pushed it back in and it fired right up. I will bet most of the doa's suffer similar problem 2-3 mm extra room for the battery and a too short wire. Simple repair. I got lucky this time.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: can't beat the price for a mobile 4g tablet.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: not sure why some people are having this DOA issue, I pick up 2 of these, one from new egg, both build jan 2013. of course both of them wouldn't boot up at first due to completely dead battery, after 30 minutes of charging, both of them booted right by. did I just got lucky?

5 out of 5 eggsAn MVP

Pros: Updatable to Kit Kat (Android 4.4). WiFi is decent (though not superb). Screen is clear, and if you expect 720p that's what you're gonna get for resolution. It's enough for me, for now.

It's also equipped with 4G, but I have yet to try it. I plan to soon!

Cons: Didn't realize at the time that it was a "2012" (built in 01/2013) model until after it shipped. I love it all the same, save for the thicker body (about as thick as iPad1), older Tegra 3 chip and nuisance of having to update at all. Forgivable sins.

Other Thoughts: With all this amazing tech, and screens that connect me to the world's information wherever I may be, I feel like I'm living in the future I dreamed of as a mere tot. Be grateful for it :)

1 out of 5 eggsThird time was not charm

Pros: Again, my view of the Nexus 7 itself is that it's a solid tablet. I've had the 2012 model for over a year, and the 2013 for three months, and would give them an overall rating of 4 and 4.5 stars respectively.

Cons: Newegg's stock of this 2012 32gb 4G model is CONTAMINATED! Check my previous review for details about the two units Newegg sent me in the space of one week, both of which were DOA. Newegg offered to send me a third unit overnight and refund the shipping charge. It too arrived DOA, with exactly the same symptoms as the previous two. I can't fault Newegg on customer service, which is always eggcellent. But still ... 3 units shipped to me within one week, and all of them are DOA? Come on Newegg and ASUS, this is not just some weird coincidence that I am the unfortunate victim of. You obviously have a problem with your stock!

Other Thoughts: To the ASUS rep who responded to my previous review. This is not a battery problem. I followed all of the troubleshooting tips you sent me in a separate email. None of them worked. As another rep in ASUS Support told me last night, this appears to be a problem with the LCD.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

I am sorry to hear the troubleshooting steps I provided did not help. I would be more than happy to investigate this issue further for you. If you are interested please feel free to email me at CL-Scott1@asus.com with your serial number. Also, please put case number # N140904623 in the subject line.

1 out of 5 eggsDOA

Pros: None

Cons: Two in a row were DOA. When plugged into the charger or a PC the screen backlight comes on, but no battery icon or any information on screen. Without being plugged in, the devices were completely unresponsive to attempts to power on. Both were charged overnight. I also tried the 'power + volume down' combination, nothing. I called ASUS, they suggested various combinations of plugging in and powering, that I'd already tried, to no avail.

Manufacturer Response:

5 out of 5 eggsgreat tablet for the price

Pros: Bought tablet on sale for $135. Tablet was brand new and fully operational. Tablet upgraded to 4.4 with no problems. Was up and running in less than 1 hour. All apps worked.
For the price can't be beat - unless you are a gamer looking for performance. Unit arrived in two days.

Cons: No really a con but the charger is a 2amp charger - so you can't use any usb charger.

Other Thoughts: This is 2012 model. No rear camera. Went to Tmobile and got 200MB data for life for free.

4 out of 5 eggsBuyer beware!

Pros: It's a Google Nexus 7. I've owned both the 2012 and 2013 versions, and I think it's a solid tablet. This was the third Nexus 7 I've bought. I'm rating it 4 of 5 stars, because that's my honest opinion of the 2012 Nexus 7. It has nothing to do with the rest of this review.

Cons: I urge anyone buying this 2012 Nexus 7 32gb 4G here on Newegg to consider my experience. Newegg has sent me two of these in the past week; both were DOA with screens that would not display more than a bare glow when turned on. Neither responded to hard reset attempts.

Other Thoughts: The first of these I ordered was an Open Box. When it arrived DOA, Newegg issued an RMA for a refund, as by then they were out of the open box stock. So I paid a bit more and ordered the new stock item. It was indeed new in box when it arrived, but it was DOA in exactly the same way as the previous unit.

Bottom line: I do not have faith in Newegg's current stock of this exact model.

Manufacturer Response:

4 out of 5 eggsNice machine, but the screen is delicate

Pros: Nice size, weight, battery life and screen resolution.

Cons: The screen is delicate. The item took a fall (inside of a protective sheath) once from a rather low height and the screen cracked. My Samsung tablet took many falls from similar heights and is still running.

4 out of 5 eggsThese things can happen...

Pros: Great size, good screen resolution, supports my music, books and photographs. I love having this little gadget available. I was so tired of struggling to see what was going on through my phone. I look forward to advances in the tablet realm!

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: Someone received this DOA. This happens. A friend of mine decided to convert his family over to the iphone. He ordered three of them when he set up his account. Imagine his shock and disappointment when ALL three of these phones were DOA!! He simply returned them after talking to Apple and they sent replacements to him overnight. Trashing the entire product before you have even had an opportunity to use it is just drama. Believing that Apple never has these problems is wrong! Pull yourself together and do what you need to do!!
