1 out of 5 eggsterrible

Pros: cheap, retail box.

Cons: Worked only 20 hours then bricked. Opened, charged it to full working great the keept nagging to update android to 4.4.4 so i gave in and said fine do it and get it over with. worked after update about 4 hours then stopped powering on. Never dropped, never scratched or anything in any way.

Other Thoughts: Google really shouldn't force you to upgrade operating system on devices that are not able to support it.

1 out of 5 eggsWill not power up no waranty

Pros: nice to use while it lasted

Cons: would not power up after 1 month ASUS says no warranty

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

Thank you for the positive comment. I apologize if the system failed to power on after a month of usage. Please verify if the USB cable and AC adapter are properly connected from the tablet to a working surge protector or AC outlet. Please try to disconnect the AC adapter and let the unit drain for 24 hours to reset and clear the memory. After doing this, please reconnect your AC adapter then power on the unit. If the problem persists, please press and hold the power button, repeat this process a couple of times, until you see an ASUS logo or a battery icon. If a battery icon shows up, let the battery charge fully before turning it on again. The tablet comes with a 90-day warranty coverage from date of purchase. If you need further assistance regarding warranty coverage, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and write down service# N141111402 on the subject line.

Thank you for choosing an ASUS product.

Regards,

Rodel

3 out of 5 eggsTop of the line Android tab but has some weak spots

Pros: Has all the bells and whistles an android tablet of its generation should have:
- webcam & mic
-stock/vanilla Android with no bloatware
- NFC
- bright, crisp HD screen
- unlocked 3G GSM sim card slot
-fast processor

Cons: -speakers are horrid
-charging port gets loose very quickly
-a little on the thick side
-after a year the battery wont hold a charge

Other Thoughts: When i first got my Nexus 7, it was amazing. The battery lasted for DAYS with regular use. Surfing, music streaming etc. It handled everything i threw at it, and i could have 15 tabs open in Chrome plus 7 other apps open without a hiccup.
Now, almost 2 years later, the battery lasts 3 1/2-4 hours with just web surfing. I wil leave it on the charger all day in AIRPORT mode with no apps running, come hom eand its still at 62% charge. The only way to charge it comepletely sometimes is to turn it off. And again it only lasts 4 or 5 hours.
The charging port loosend up so much that you can barely hold it in your hand while plugged in w/o it falling out. You have to hold it just right so the chargers prongs stay in. The speakers were never good so that just had to be accepted early on.
The sound is just too small and quiet. Ive had better, louder spekaers on my iPhone 4s and Lumia 521.
Im not sure if its updates or just old age but the processor is constantly freezing up, getting bogged down with just two apps like Pulse and Chrome running. I'll even shut down all background processes and apps that arent system required apps and it will still freeze the screen or go blank all the time. Its beyond frustrating now as i thought KitKat was supposed to use resources better.
I will say that the screen has never had any dead pixels or touch issues, and the 3G radio has never dropped out on me. I like the Nexus line and feel that most of the isues are hardware related so i'll buy another Android tablet, even Nexus if its not an Asus made tab (they made the 2012 Nexus 7). I love Asus's other hardware but im not sure they have their tablet game down perfect yet. That or it's all just the the way products with a 1 year lifecycle are consciously designed now.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

It's great to konw that you consider the tablet as a top of the line Android tablet. I certainly understand your concern regarding the battery discharging fast or the charged life not lasting longer after 2 years. In order to improve or prolong the battery charged time, please drain it completely then charge it fully without using the system. Once full-charged, please use the system, without the AC adapter connected, and drain it completely. Please repeat the charging process thereafter. If you need further assistance, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and write down service# N141111529 on the subject line.

Thank you for choosing an ASUS product.

1 out of 5 eggsNexus 7 DAO

Pros: Seemed a good deal

Cons: DAO twice, wont buy again

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

I apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused you. All ASUS products undergo intensive quality control testing and inspections, having 2 units in a row dead on arrival is an isolated case. ASUS provides warranty for the tablet in order to fix or repair any isolated factory escape defect. If you need further assistance, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and write down service# N141086516 on the subject line.

Thank you for choosing an ASUS product.
