5 out of 5 eggssolid product

Pros: This is a solid product from Asus, and has great aesthetics, with a beautiful brushed metal finish. The keyboard layout is fine, and the touch pad is nice and big, which I like. The touchscreen is excellent, I haven't run into any problems with it so far. It performs great in everyday applications, battery life is good, and the speakers are actually pretty good. It boots up really fast and runs nice and smooth with that 24gb ssd.

Cons: I would have liked a 1080p screen, but that might slow down operations being more intensive on the gpu. 1366 x 768 is not bad by any stretch of the imagination, so it's not an issue or anything, purely me being picky.
Video streaming doesn't do extremely well. But YouTube is fine, Just some videos load a bit slowly.

Other Thoughts: Overall this is a great product and I highly recommend it over anything else in this price range.

1 out of 5 eggsLess than a month!

Pros: Laptop was beautiful, started up fine, no freezes as reported, great battery life!

Cons: I went to start it up one morning about 2-3 weeks after I had received it and it said it was missing a bootfile and said it could not be repaired!

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

I am very sorry that your computer is not working.

If you created a restore drive, you should be able to fix your computer using it. I would be happy to help you with the boot up repair process. Just send me an email to including the laptop's serial number, and I will be able to assist you from there.

4 out of 5 eggsGood enough for me

Pros: Runs everything that I need for it to run, and quite quickly. I am writing this review with the laptop right now.

Cons: The SSD does not really make the start-up much quicker. Sometimes it has taken as long as 2 minutes to start the laptop from completely off. Also, windows 8 has a mind of its own sometimes. I will be working on some file, and 8 shuts down for a update. I have also had a few freezes over the past 3 months. Only like twice a month though, so not that bad.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat but

Pros: Beautiful, sexy, fast.

Cons: The 24GB SSD is too small, after wiping win 8 and installing Windows 7 64 bit I was unable to do little of anything else. Not enough room leftover to install other programs or use browsers.

Going to order a larger SSD to put in, and this machine will rock.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome love it, how to win7

Pros: great deal, good spec, great price... I like it the touch pad isn't as bad as people have reported you just need to realize it doesn't require you to push it until it clicks to make a selection havent own it a week may need to revist a review later.

Cons: none here, at first I had some reservations because I couldn't figure out (quickly without reading) how to install windows 7 on it, ot liking windows 8 too much.

Other Thoughts: To install windows 7 disable boot security and enable CSM. I pulled the Hitachi 500gb 5400rpm hdd and replaced it with a 250mb samsung 840 pro SSD it works great, fast as blue blazes. ALL asus drivers are perfectly compatible with win7 64bit... I'm really liking this thing.

1 out of 5 eggsDisappointed

Pros: Looks nice.

Cons: On the second boot the drive went into "automatic repairs" and took four times the amount of time as the first boot (the night before). On the third boot (third day) it attempted to boot for several hours; the screen read "Attempting repairs" the entire time and never did anything else. I sent it back on day four.

Other Thoughts: The SSD was very slow? It also had a 120GB SSD & 500GB HDD instead of the advertised 24GB & 500GB?

ASUS usually make top notch stuff, kind of a let down.

Newegg was awesome at handling the RMA for the record. Always great service.

4 out of 5 eggsOverall, satisfied

Pros: I bought this laptop mainly because I wanted something easier to carry around when I travel for work. This is a lot lighter and thinner than my old NV50 and so much easier to lug around. I like the thin profile and chicklet keyboard. Others have complained about the touch-pad, but I pretty much always use an external mouse so I can't say much about that. I also haven't used it unplugged long enough to comment on battery life, but for my usage it seems as though it is more than adequate. Performance runs everything I have thrown at it so far without any hassle (Other than streaming Flash online, as documented below). I do MSSRS Report development so I have a localized SQL 2008 server instance running and BIDS runs w/o a hitch.

I wasn't yet sold on Windows 8 so I immediately made a new partition and put 7 back on in a dual-boot config, but I have been using 8 more and more and now I am sold on it, even when I have it hooked up to my non-touch screen monitors. You can really fly around in it once you get used to how things work, and I like how you can add application panels to the Start screen. I did miss the Start button pretty dearly though, so I installed a 3rd party add-on that re-adds it from

The boot time from complete shut down is pretty quick, and waking out of sleep mode is almost instantaneous. It is also very quiet, compared again to my older laptop that was starting to develop some fan issues.

If it weren't for one particular issue as documented in the Cons, I would give this 5 eggs.

Cons: One issue I am encountering is with streaming online video via Flash. Seems the system's video resources just aren't enough to handle this and I end up with jittery playback after about a minute. I upgraded the RAM to 12gb, reallocated the shared memory in BIOS to the max setting, updated to the latest video drivers and insured Flash was up to date. Played around with the Flash h/w acceleration and file allocation settings but nothing helps. This is really quite disappointing as you would think something this new would be able to handle something like this with relative ease, even with the video embedded in the CPU. Seems to be limited to Flash though as I can play localized high-def mkv files without any problems, both locally and when the HDMI is hooked up to a TV. I am still researching this issue and hope I can find something to resolve it, but in this day and age of the multimedia lifestyle one would expect out of the box not to have to deal with something like this.

Other Thoughts: Overall I am very satisfied with this machine, particularly considering the price-point it is being offered. I just hope that this Flash issue doesn't persist for too much longer.

Also, be careful if setting up a dual boot with Win8. It worked OK at first and was using the Win7 boot loader simply because of how I loaded the secondary win7 installation, but after I installed some Win8 updates, it blew it out and wouldn't load the boot menu at just loaded straight into Win8. I had to use some boot loader tools (i.e. Visual BCD Editor, etc) to get it working again and now I have the Metro boot loader...which has the added benefit of getting into the recovery console, amongst other options. Ultimately it worked out for the better for me, but if you aren't familiar with boot menu configurations it could wreak havoc for you...just something to be mindful of.

5 out of 5 eggsGood Ultrabook

Pros: Fast, tons of storage and memory, touchscreen is really nice and you get used to the feature of touch very quickly.

Cons: Not a fan of the touchpad but, I'll get used to it. I don't like the whole pad as a click and I miss the scroll feature on the pad like my previous laptop had.

3 out of 5 eggsTouchpad Issue

Pros: Overall the laptop was great with the speed and features and the touchscreen. The usb 3.0 ports are great plus everything else.

Cons: I'm returning my device as we speak because the touchpad on the device has already been giving me issues. It sticks more then 3 times a day and only had it for less then a month. Just letting everyone know a heads up. Its still warrantied and such but i should have to return it less then 30 days. I'm going to go with Sony like i used to.
