2 out of 5 eggspoor quality

Pros: play games and runs programs I want

Cons: Case is very flimsy. The computer is literally coming apart whenever I open the lid. The case comes apart to the point that I can see the internals of the computer.

Other Thoughts: I will seriously reevaluate ASUS before I buy another ASUS product

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

I apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused you. All ASUS products undergo intensive qualitycontrol testing and inspections, this is an isolated case. ASUS provides warranty for the laptop in order to fix or repair any isolated factory escape defect. If you need further assistance sending it in for service, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and write down service# N140744014 on the subject line.

Thank you for choosing an ASUS product.

Regards,

Rodel

5 out of 5 eggsGood college laptop

Pros: -Good processor speeds and core count
-High quality construction
-Easy to install Windows 7, ASUS's website has good driver support for Windows 7
-Good amount of RAM

Cons: None!

Other Thoughts: I would recommend this laptop to someone looking to do some light to mid gaming, as well as crunch some serious office work with a nice big screen and serious processing power. I am a CS and IT major in college, and this has been totally sufficient for all my needs. My only regret is that the laptop never fits comfortably on the tiny fold out desks they have on our chairs.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat Machine, poor Quality Assesment

Pros: Great machine for the money. Quick with no hardware/software issues.

Cons: Screws were all apparently loose. Did not notice they were loose/missing until I found the top cover of the laptop was popping up when the screen was open. After noticing three were missing and I heard something rattling around in the computer. I removed the battery and found the two screws there were loose and had been trapped under the battery.

Other Thoughts: After reinstalling/tightening the two screws I actually had recovered (one in the corner to keep the cover from bending when opening the screen, the other near the battery compartment to support the lower cover from falling down near the battery compartment), I went around and tightened any loose screws left. They all were very loose and had more than a comfortable amount of turns left from the screw driver as I tightened..... Not very pleased by this and I need new screws that fit the threads in the case... Going to call ASUS support and find out if I can get screws.

Like I mentioned before, the computer runs great and I have no other issues. Maybe I got lucky, but I don't appear to have the disk drive problem others had.

My sister purchased this laptop after I advised her on New Egg and ASUS being fantastic. I still feel that way but obviously there was a quality control issue here. Never have I received loose screws in a product....sad.
I only write this review so that New Egg and/or ASUS rep will see how many had an issue and steps will be taken. Its discontinued so I feel that either this model was on its way out anyway or they are controlling a situation.

I hope New Egg or ASUS will contact my sister and see to her satisfaction as I told her how great both companies are. Either way, I'm on the horn with ASUS tomorrow to try and get some screws.

1 out of 5 eggsJust a bad unit?

Pros: Not yet found

Cons: Computer tries to access an empty DVD drive randomly from time to time and usually freezes at those moments

Other Thoughts: I also found that a screw from the bottom went missing and the rest were not tight enough. Sent the laptop to ASUS for repairs. Got it back a week later. The DVD drive now for some reason says Blu Ray Disc on it, even though under hardware info it's still the same Slimtype DVD A, and it's still being randomly accessed for no apparent reason, even adfter factory reset with just Windows updates installed. There was also a sound of a loose part rolling inside. Couldn't figure out where it comes from until I removed the battery, and a screw fell out. Put it back in, tightened all the screws again. Will send it back to ASUS for more repairs. So far this unit and repair attempts by ASUS are awful.

5 out of 5 eggsAsus F75VD

Pros: After removing windows 8 which I think sucks, and installing a 1TB Seagate Hybrid HDD and Windows 7 Pro 64 Bit, The computer rocks, and is really fast.

Cons: Windows 8 it's like the windows Millennium it sucks, Get rid of it, and you have a Great Notebook. Should be able to buy it with Windows 7

Other Thoughts: This Notebook came with windows 7 before it came out with windows 8, so all the drivers for Windows 7 are on ASUS website, and easy to download and install.

3 out of 5 eggsMove onto something else

Pros: Big screen, you get a lot for the money as far as speed, and screen size.

Cons: As someone else reported already in their review, the dvd drive keeps turning on with nothing in the drive, about 3-5 times an hour. It may not sound like a big deal, but believe me, when the thing makes all sorts of noises several times an hour for no reason, it's literally the most annoying thing I've ever dealt with on a computer. Especially if you're in deep concentration on something, it's such an awful distraction and and completely makes you lose track of what you're doing. I boxed it up and sent it into Newegg about 2 weeks after I got it, for repair. They tested it, couldn't find the problem, and sent it back to me saying that nothing is wrong with the computer! I called them back and told them that there is a problem, but the fact that their technicians couldn't find it doesn't mean that there isn't a problem, it just means they cannot find it! I was so upset that I returned the computer (I was still within my 30 day warranty) for a 15% re-stocking fee. The way I saw it, I'll take a small loss to avoid further aggravation, stress, and loss. I called some computer repair shops in my area and they said they have never experienced or heard of this problem before. I asked some friends who are good with computers and they acted like they had no idea what I was talking about. Either people had no idea, or they are just too lazy to think a tiny bit to recall a similar experience (people are so mindless these days). Nonetheless, it was no fun having an unheard of issue, because nobody knew what the problem was, including Newegg, and nobody knew how to fix it, including Newegg! This was the second Asus laptop I've bought, I had software issues with the last Asus laptop I bought from Newegg. This is the last time I buy an Asus laptop, I gave them two chances and had problems both times. Shame on you Asus, you have lowered your standards for your systems. If they keep building garbage, it's only a matter of time before the word gets around and nobody buys their computers anymore. I'm already one of them. One thing I will give Newegg credit for, they do offer a 30 day return policy if you're not satisfied, and they do let consumers share information on these boards without screening them. Chances are, as a result of this post I'll save someone a lot of headache and heartache by halting their mistake before they hit the "commit to purchase" button. Heck, I might even save a few people the trouble. Who knows. All I know is, stay away from this computer. I hate to trash Asus but I would be lying if I said they are a good company because based on the two laptops I've bought from them, I've gotten trash. Two lemons ina row- coincidence? I would say yes, except that others on this feedback forum are reporting similar troubles.

Other Thoughts: Do yourself a favor, move onto a different manufacturer. Asus use to build good computers. They now build garbage. They use the cheapest parts they can find, it does nobody any good, not the consumer, not Asus.

3 out of 5 eggsEhh.. Ok.

Pros: Large Screen
Full Keypad
Most of the time its pretty quick (speed wise)

Cons: The biggest one of all is the fact that randomly the dvd drive will just spin up and as it does this the whole computer freezes for a second. I saw people complaining about this and I was like ehh no big deal... But its a pain! Happens all the time too!

Other Thoughts: Good computer if you can figure out how to get the dvd drive to not spin up. I haven't found a way yet. I am thinking about taking out the drive completely if I can find something to cover the slot with. Other wise it would be a great computer for the price!

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Brent,

I'm glad that you were satisfied with the laptop, having a large screen, full-size keyboard and a quick speed or system performance. The DVD spinning randomly is not normal. Please make sure no third-party utility program or software was installed that is trying to access the ODD. You can also try running System Restore to revert the system to the last known good configuration. If you need further assistance, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and write down service# 3034246 on the subject line.

Thank you for choosing an ASUS product.

Rodel
