1 out of 5 eggsNothing but headaches

Pros: High powered unit for it's weight

Cons: No battery life
No optical drive
only 720p display
Broke constantly

Other Thoughts: I would avoid this at all costs, especially refurbed. I've had complete system/hard drive failure on 2 occasions before. On the 3rd, during a memtest, the screen flashed, all lights went out, and now I have a thousand dollar paperweight on my hands.

Oh, and during the entire time of ownership (less than a year), the power cord barely connected properly and the unit would not charge to save it's life.

4 out of 5 eggsReally good laptop

Pros: Strong GFX card combined with i5. The 8 gb of RAM is a major plus. So far it has run every game I've thrown at it without a problem. Games like Far Cry 3 and Arkham City look really good on it and run without any framerate issues.

Cons: About 3 weeks into having this laptop, the power supply just up and died on it. I'm not sure if it was because it was defective or not, but since this was a refurbished laptop I wasn't too surprised it happened. Luckily, I was able to find a power supply online with the same specs as the original, and even though it set me back another 80 bucks, it has worked great ever since. Another setback is the hard drive. It can be very slow at times and feels out of place in comparison to the great CPU, higher end GFX card, and 8 gb of ram. A SSD or SSD Hybrid drive in this thing would really boost performance.

Other Thoughts: I paid $699 for this refurbished laptop and for the money I definitely feel like I got a good deal.

4 out of 5 eggsPretty Great

Pros: Great gaming laptop for the price! Runs most games on High/Max settings at 1366x768 with no issues. It is a solid laptop and does not feel flimsy, pretty lightweight as well. Sound is pretty good and the illuminated keyboard is nice as well.

Cons: Came with Windows 8, the wifi range is not that great, standard 5400 RPM HDD (weird for a 'gaming' pc), and plugging in an HDMI to a TV is kinda weird because it takes it a minute to recognize it, but maybe that is just my TV or something.

Other Thoughts: Buy a faster hard drive, install Windows 7 if you don't like Win 8, that's what I did. Also there is no disk drive, but that did not bother me any but I some people still like to have one.

5 out of 5 eggsCouldn't Be Happier

Pros: Can run nearly any game on high setting with zero difficulty
Sleek design
Cooling is excellent
Relatively low weight for a gaming computer

Cons: Home key is annoyingly easy to hit when hitting backspace
Good amount of ASUS bloatware

Other Thoughts: I purchased this laptop to take to college and i couldn't be happier. It mostly acts as a desktop in my dorm, yet on the few occasions i have taken it to class for notes or other assignments the weight has never bothered me, plus i get a compliment or two on just on the basis of how nice it looks. It can game with the best of them. I have a good amount of time to game in my dorm and i am extremely pleased at how it handles the more intense games, in addition to the cooling, which is excellent. i am honestly surprised at how cool it stays, even after hours of gaming. Borderlands 2 runs like a dream. My only complaints, are the bloatware from asus, which was annoying until i uninstalled it all, and that i always hit the home key when backspacing, causing my cursor to jump to the beginning of the line, which has been cause for much frustration. Other than that i have no complaints. it's a solidly built computer with great design that can really put out.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat laptop

Pros: gtx660
price
everything

Cons: none really

Other Thoughts: the only complaint that i see everywhere is windows 8 and while everyone is right that it's terrible, there's nothing stopping you from putting windows 7 on it. if you don't have an external dvd drive look up at how to install from a usb drive... quick painless and gives you a nice clean install right off the bat. just about all the windows 8 drivers are compatible with windows 7 just make sure you have them beforehand because it was a pain trying to download drivers without a lan or wifi card.

2 out of 5 eggsHuge headache

Pros: Very nice looking, perfect screen size for my purposes, great specs.

Cons: very poor quality control, explained below..

Other Thoughts: I bought this laptop new from canada computers, but i thought this was the best place to point out the issues i had with this laptop. The first one I purchased and a broken right click mouse button, so I shrugged it off and got a direct replacement from Canada Computers. The second one that I got had a massive chunk chipped out of the corner of the laptop and some scratches. I then returned it again and received a 3rd. The problem with this laptop is that the bezel surrounding the screen was not flush on the bottom panel. By this, I mean that it pops out on one side. There was also a bump under the touch pad. So, I returned this yet again and recieved a 4th laptop. By this point, I'm frustrated and so is Canada computers. This 4th one had the same bezel problem, and it also had a half recessed tab button and the keys in the middle of the keyboard are more recessed than the rest, almost as if they were sunken in. By this point, I had pretty much used up all of the laptops from Canada Computers in my local area so I had no choice but to settle with the 4th one with the bezel issue and recessed keys. I have always purchased asus parts (mobos gpus, and this is my second laptop) but wow, to have this much bad luck with 4 NEW laptops of the same model is just terrible. They really need to do something about their quality control. Having to go through that many with defects and ultimately settling (not being totally happy) is not something that anyone should experience for a laptop that is over the $1000 mark. In any case, the laptop serves its purposes very well, the recessed/crooked keys and bezel popping out is a nuisance. As a reuslt, in the future I would never order an asus laptop online. I would only buy them in store and only if the store allows me to inspect the laptop out of the box before bringing it home. Overall, my faith in Asus has withered through this experience. My family and friends saw my frustration first hand and are now very cautious about buying asus as a result. I know I could RMA it, but at this point, i just want to enjoy my laptop. Also, I have no other means of using a computer because I'm away for school so the turnaround time is not acceptable for me as I cannot do without this laptop for even a day sinc eit is my sole vehicle for word, internet, and games. This message is not intended to be a bashing of asus but a warning to those who buy this particular laptop. These issues are common enough to appear 4 times in a row for me. Maybe it was bad luck, but what are the odds?

5 out of 5 eggsNice for 700 dollars

Pros: Good card, 2gb will allow windows 7 to be installed, no issues there, you have to install all the windows 8 drivers, onto windows 7, got keyboard backlight, and all the functions on the keyboard to work. Once defragged the hdd will dramatically improve in performance. Also battery life is good for a refurbed laptop. Skyrim ultra and while not constant 60fps, that intel cpu makes a world of difference. lol but of course you knew that. Also stays very cool. like when im running battlefield 3 for like 2 hours its gets as hot as other laptops i have seen when you are just on the internet, when im on the internet like now, i feel nothing cept very little heat on the cpu side, DUAL fans, very KEY feature here people this is the part you want on this laptop.

Cons: Well doesnt do good gaming when on battery power, but this isnt a con just a known fact in laptop gaming, umm cpu lag in battlefield 3, still playable like 30-60fps and changing graphics settings gives same frames, just cpu is the bottleneck, specially on 64 players maps, i knew this when i bought it, HDD is not an hybrid its a samsung 8mb cache with 750gb. But as stated above once defragged its not that bad, just dont ask your hdd to do many things at once and you will be fine. HDD and battery are not user accesible, but i mean... if you want you can just open it up and put an SSD in it, also there is an mSata slot. Just make sure when you take the keyboard off do it slowly as there is the ribbon cable to take note of.

Other Thoughts: Overall im happy with this laptop. Im running stock, and i also have my desktop which is for my power house so bought this as not to outrank my baby, but just a good future proof. that can play games at 60fps low detail if need be resolution is good for the screen. no point in going 1080 and if you wanted to just get an external monitor or a lenovo y500. CPU is upgradeable to an i7.... GPU is not but thats fine its a good one for the price $700 baby! also i had like... super super freaking fast shipping it shipped monday even though i ordered it on saturday. like monday afternoon not in the morning or even on sunday, but it got here that same wednesday and i opted for 4-7 day shipping... blew my mind newegg and i always by from newegg

3 out of 5 eggsKeyboard Backlight is broken

Pros: everything but the keyboard backlight doesnt work. very anger about this because a keyboard's backlight's death is not only an indication of the motherboard being broken... but also a hassel and money to fix.

Cons: Came as a defect...

1 out of 5 eggsdon't let then 4/5 stars fool you

Pros: 1-okay the specs are amazing for the price
2-looks cool

Cons: 1-mcfee
2- spacesucksoyouhave press it hard and all the time.
3-takes 30+ seconds to turn on!
4-windows 8
5-wireless card sucks crashes every 10 minute
6-how can this be a gaming laptop if one of my 3usb ports stopped working, so either i don't plug the wireless adapter and deal with the wireless card crash every 10 minute or i don't plug my keyboard and have to deal with annoyingspacebar.
7-no manual or box i understand its a refurbished item but a user manual to laptop or windows 8 would have been nice.

Other Thoughts: i think it looks beautiful and the specs are appealing but be aware this laptop will come with problems.
the right single usb port stopped working,

5 out of 5 eggsNew Review From Arkham

Pros: Okay so this computer is amazing. Great picture, size, has outlet cooling on the back, great CPU, GPU, and RAM. All at a decent price. Some people may say Windows 8 sucks, but I say no. It has potential and it is great. They are releasing an update in October called 8.1. This will solve any of the current issues Microsoft and their users have ran into. Now, on to the laptop itself. I use it for gaming, programming, surfing the web, basically anything, and it works awesome. I love the Windows start screen and I love the log in display option. I also downloaded the Halo 4 theme pack which I love.

Next is my recommendations for if you purchase this pc. Now it may differ from user to user, but I have found this helpful tome. When you first get to the Windows Start screen, the first thing after your first boot up is to go to the Store and make sure you can do updates for your apps. This is crucial as I ran into this problem after installing many thing. If you cannot, open your charms menu (Windows key + C) go to Settings, then go to Change PC settings. Go to general, and refresh your PC. Then try to do the updates again. If it doesnt work, then go back to the General tab and Reinstall Windows. This should work. You want to do this because before I did this none of the apps would update and my trackpad wouldnt function. Now they work fine. Another suggestion is to right click on the desktop screen and go to the Nvidia control panel. I recommend this because you more than likely need to change your graphics card settings from the Integrated Intel 4000 to the Nvidia 660m. To do this you just need to go to the Manage 3D Settings tab in the Nvidia control panel. Under Preferred graphics processor, click the Nvidia 660m, and click apply at the bottom right of the window. If you know what you are doing, you can edit the other options in that list, but I left it how it was.

Also in the Windows start screen, search for the control panel. In system and security, then power options, you need to change what the power and sleep buttons do so your pc turns off when you tell it to, and you also can change when the pc sleeps. You also need to change the power options if you want better performance over power saving, Default setting is power saving, I usually set mine to balance so I dont kill my battery when im not home.

Performance wise this thing is a beast. Great CPU, GPU, and RAM.I used CPU-Z, GPU-Z, and HW Monitor to detect the performance and temperature of the PC while running High Graphical Demanding games such as Skyrim or Dota 2 or Bioshock Infinite. These games run amazing. You dont even have to look at the specs when you play because you know its running amazing (for some games I had to change the graphical settings in game before I played).

In all I would highly recommend this PC to anybody who loves gaming or even just using a computer day to day. It is amazing.

Cons: Few cons, but I will list only the few things I noticed. To fix these, I put the solutions in the pros. Some may not have a fix.

-Slow HDD (5600rpm, no fix)
-Windows 8 wouldnt update apps
-Space bar doesnt always work (no fix)
-Default settings I prefer to be changed
-jGrasp shortcut did not work (had to access it from the C:/ Drive, no fix)
-No touchscreen (no fix)
-Touchpad didnt work at first
-McAfee

Other Thoughts: Great computer for the price, worth every penny sent, Some cons can be fixed, and other I will get used to or it doesnt bother me. 5/5, would recommend to a friend or relative.
