5 out of 5 eggsPerfect for what I needed it for

Pros: This laptop was perfect for what I needed it for to do college work. Plays games decently, but can be a little slow.

Cons: Needed more RAM

1 out of 5 eggstons of major issues after 30 days of use

Pros: price is right. good GPU

Cons: tons of issues after 30 days of use, and it became progressively worse since.

The first issue was the mouse cursor would sporadically forces to lower right hand corner and stays there. When that occurs, I cannot control the mouse cursor at all. Tried turning off special trackpad gestures. Issue remained.

Second issue was that the notebook screen would sporadically turn blank.

The third issue is that the notebook would not power on after pressing the power button. This occurs sporadically also.

I made sure the drivers are up to date. I emailed Asus but no response yet. praying they won't dodge the 90 day warranty which is approaching quickly.

Other Thoughts: All issues are dealbreakers. What good does a cheap price do if you can't use the laptop at all? I guess they were refurbished for a reason

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Laptop

Pros: It works.
It's fast enough that I am not impatient with it.
The mouse pad is actually the best one I have EVER had. I recently traded my Sony laptop away & it's mouse pad was terrible from the first day!

Cons: Windows 8, but I changed the setup options to make it look like Win 7.

Other Thoughts: Will be using it for Karaoke and other music related things.
Plugged in wireless mouse button & it is working just fine.
I like the left/right buttons built into the mouse pad.

5 out of 5 eggsscreen issue update

Pros: I posted a prev review of 3 stars but newegg replaced the unit and no issues. New unit resolved the minor issue. Asus also emailed me a contact to help if it did not. Great service recovery from both parties to resolve my problems. Both units came in very nice condition. This unit is the best value in a good brand that I could find. Add 4 g of ram and notice a nice improvement . Very fast for bottom of price scale!!!

Cons: I like windows right okay but it can make normal diag processes a pain!

Other Thoughts: Will likely swap the HDd out for faster 7200 or smaller ssd when Black Friday comes!

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Win 8 (you knew it when you bought it). Nice touch pad. Quad core. APU 7000 series graphics. Runs my Steam & Origin Games.

Cons: Exhaust out of the left side during games is really warm. Did not use any after market laptop cooler so no eggs off.

3 out of 5 eggsNice buy but..

Pros: Sleek, chic-let style keys, nice screen, great for mid range gaming. It woked with team fortress 2 and left 4 dead 2 with no issues.

Cons: Flimsy cd tray, Shared video memory so get it to 8 gigs ram As soon as you can. No recover disks or a way to make them since the recover partition is removed. You even get a note explaining this so be noted that you might have to come up with your own OS later if the system fails.

Other Thoughts: I was looking at a $600 laptop with a GPU and glad i waited. This system holds its own just fine. It lost two eggs being your on your on with a recovering OS. This is one of the most critical things missed on today's pc market.

4 out of 5 eggsGood for the price

Pros: - Price = 390$ at my door
- Quad core
- Really good graphics performance for the price (7640g)
- Refurbished this thing is NEW, no scratches, no signs of use, nothing the hard drives has 4 days of use according to Defraggler.
- 4 GB of 1600 Mhz RAM wish it was 1866 Mhz but I don't know if the chip set supports it.
- Windows 8 (if you don't like windows 8 because it's not like windows 7 just download "classic shell" and you will have the normal windows GUI. Windows 8 performs better than windows 7, it's quicker, more responsive and it's lighter than windows 7, the laptop takes 15-20 from start to desktop
- USB 3.0, HDMI
- Girlfriend is happy.
- Plays league of legends @ 1366 x 768 at very high with a decent 30-45 fps. I plugged my 21.5 inch 1920 x 1080 and it performed just as well. The iGPU is a really is a really good performer for the price. I don't know about other games but I you just play league this will more than handle it.

Cons: - My main concern is that the laptop says it can go up to 1.9 GHz but it's setup to stay at 1.4 Ghz and runs at 86 degrees C.. I change it with AMD CCC so it can reach 1.9 Ghz and it goes up to 102 degrees which is really hot.. I don't trust it so I just leave it at 1.4 GHz but by doing that you lose a LOT of horsepower..
- 5400 RPM drive with only 8 mb cache, makes the PC really slow actually, but you can always take some of the money you spent on a refurbished item and buy a 7200 RPM drive or an SSD
- Single channel SODIMM RAM, again you can add a second 4 GB SODIMM to have dual channel.
- Keyboard setup is a bit weird, keys are really close to each other..
- A lot of Asus software.. which seems to be a lot of bloatware
- One thing that is really bugging me is that Asus put mcafee internet security on the laptop I uninstalled it but there is a bug where you can't uninstall it completely and there's a process stuck in the status bar called mcagent.exe.. it doesn't take any resources it's just annoying.

Other Thoughts: A lot of people complain about windows 8 but I'm pretty sure a lot of people haven't even given it the time to prove to them how much better it is compared to 7.

Overall this is a good computer, the only thing to keep in mind is that the 5400 drive really bottlenecks the performance of this laptop. I REALLY RECOMMEND you spend 65$ and buy a WD Scorpio Black 500 GB 7200 RPM with 16 mb cache. You should see a noticeable increase in performance or get a 120 GB samsung 840 for insane speeds and responsiveness.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat

Pros: What a great notebook for the price, I'm really starting to like Refurbished items.
The notebook does games very well for the settings, like others report, turn AA off/down and I also avoid shadows, which I think look bad in most games anyway, thing runs like a powerhouse. I can feel the vents blowing somewhat warm air, but the notebook never seems to generate much heat through the chassis like others I've had.

Came in great condition, no dead pixels, no broken/loose keys, power cord is perfect.

I'll probably toss another 4GB of RAM in it eventually.

Cons: It did come with someone else's set up copy of windows on it, but a quick system reset fixed that in about 30 minutes.

Other Thoughts: I can't stand windows 8, but I recommend you download "Classic Shell" to bring back a functional start menu.
