5 out of 5 eggsGreat notebook

Pros: Very Fast, Bright Display. Free upgrade to 8.1 and love how 8.1 runs with no issues. Very solid heavy notebook. First notebook I've had with SSD and it boots in 3 seconds.

Cons: Typical new machine that needs a ton of updates from MS before it's really ready to work. No issues with mine.

Other Thoughts: Going to replace the original SSD with larger one and also replace the HD's with SSD.

5 out of 5 eggsAsus G750JH-DB71

Pros: Great gamer laptop and reasonable desktop replacement. The laptop has great hardware, it shreds through nearly anything that I throw at it.. does it run Crysis, I think it will.

Cons: Cons? Hmm, im not too crazy about the smal 256 Raid0 m.2 SSD combo. Currently, its failry difficult to find larger SSD cards to upgrade the storage space being that it uses m.2 NGFF. The Assassins Creed logo is completely unnecessary and pollutes to appearance of the laptop.

Other Thoughts: This is a follow up to my previous review post RMA. Newegg was extremely helpful and cooperative in replacing the first laptop, which came with a number of problems. The replacement they went me has been working perfectly and I couldnt be more happy. Big thumbs up to Newegg for being so helpful and willing to make things right. Only complaint I have is the SSD array, being I use it for gaming, its a PITA that even though I load the portions insanely fast, you will often find it a complete waste because you have to wait for the server side to load their portion while you twiddle your thumbs. Solo apps and programs that do not rely on a server load instantly. I used a disk benchmark and the SSD array averaged 1,000mbs read/load and fairly close on write speeds as well

3 out of 5 eggsDisappointing after six months

Pros: -POWERFUL; will run games like Battlefield 4 and War Thunder on maximum settings with little or no noticeable frame drops.
-FAST; Main Drive SSD and 24GB of memory make for a quick boot and fast access to your primary games.
-EFFICIENT; Low temps in the most demanding gaming. Battery will last hours on a dimmed screen and no backlit keyboard if you're word-processing or browsing the internet.

Cons: BATTERY FAILS; Six months in, I started getting a blinking battery LED. I tried multiple things, from reinstalling battery charge drivers to rolling back the BIOS to even wiping the computer with a fresh copy of Windows. No joy. Swapping batteries with a fellow G750 owner revealed a faulty battery. Fortunately, his is holding up. UN-fortunately, the battery is proprietary and will take until World War 3 to receive from ASUS. Their customer support has been unresponsive, at best.
SSD; Solid-State Drives have limited writes. It will eventually die. Great for the OS and your primary games while it lasts, though.
INTERMITTENT KEYBOARD; Various keys ranging from F and R to T and N have habits of not properly keying when you stroke them. This can be a huge pain when typing reports for school or even writing a review like this. Suggest opting for an external keyboard if you can spare the slots.
SLOPPY BIOS; Every iteration of BIOS release has had a bug of some sort. It started with heavy CPU throttling from the factory in battery mode, to intermittent backlighting in the first upgrade. The newest is still too new to really dial down the issues with it, but the apparent "fix" for WHQL support wasn't much of a fix.
WINDOWS 8 and BLUETOOTH; Not the worst OS, but its driver support is funky. Because of this, the Bluetooth drivers tend to cause false shutdowns and restarts if they're not disabled.

Other Thoughts: For the price of the laptop, I expected better product quality in things like the keyboard and battery. Things like that should not be prone to failure within the first six months of ownership.

The driver support of Windows 8 and this laptop are AWFUL. You have to disable the Atheros Bluetooth drivers if you encounter any issues shutting down or restarting the laptop.

I wanted to give this laptop a 3.5, but halves are not featured in the egg ratings. Bummer, because it just doesn't deserve four eggs, let alone five, for the deficient keyboard and battery issues that seem to plague MANY who have bought this laptop.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Mr. Jarek Cyphus,

I apologized for your disappointment with the laptop. All ASUS products undergo quality control testing and inspections, the issue with the battery is an isolated case. To improve system stability and performance, we recommend installing all recommended WINDOWS Update and upgrade to WINDOWS 8.1. If you need further assistance, please email me at and write down service# 3564636 on the subject line.

2 out of 5 eggsI suggest passing on this Laptop

Pros: It looks good, very slick with the Stealth fighter feel. It will definitely turn heads. Its also very fast and the hardware inside if running flawless will rival most peoples desktops.

Cons: Right out of the Box I had a number of Problems.

1. The DVD/Blue Ray drive had alot of trouble reading Discs I had to reboot, reinsert and manually start disc after disc. I would clean them and carefully put them in and it still had trouble reading them. Trying to install all the discs for Sims 3 was a nightmare.

2. It stopped Charging on the 4th day. It detected that it was plugged in and would sit a 0-1% charging but never go up. I even restored it back to factory and it didnt help.

3. It was VERY Heavy. I know this is a gaming laptop but it is very heavy and very big. Compared to the MSI GT70 series it is almost needlessly large.

4. It has a needless Assassins Creed Logo Etched into the Palm Rest. While thats kinda cool it sorta Dates the laptop and if you dont intend on playing the game or worse don't like it there is no need to have it Etched into your new Gaming Laptop. If it was a Sticker it would be MUCH better.

5. The Hard Drives are Partitioned really awkward. The 2 128gb SSD is in a raid 0 but partitioned into 2 128gb and the 1tb storage drive is partitioned into 2 500gb drives. totally unnecessary.

Other Thoughts: I ended up returning it for a full refund and bought the MSI GT70 2OD-019US and love it. It runs ALOT better has none of the above issues and was much lighter and seemed to run a lot cooler. It also had a few features that this one didn't.

4 out of 5 eggsG750JH-DB71 QA issues

Pros: The technical specifications and performance of the laptop have met my expectations. I have always been impressed with Asus's products Due to some problems with the laptop, I have not been able to really give it a run yet, I will update the review once the RMA process is complete.

Cons: The cons must originate from either just bad luck or poor QA process. I have had the laptop for less than a day and upon opening it, I could have sworn it was used. There were finger prints all over it, some of the keys were jammed. I was able to wiggle the keys around and place them back into position but the right shift key is randomly responsive. The monitor screen/bezel is very flimsy and wiggles pretty excessively, my previous Asus laptops never had this problem. Next is a mystery smudge on the left hand side of the lcd screen, I have not been able to remove it with a microfiber cloth and a few warm breaths. I will NOT use any solvents or chemicals because that would likely void the warranty.

Other Thoughts: I do not blame Newegg, no one really knows what you are going to get until you open the box. I am now in the RMA process and hopefully they will deliver a new product in a timely fashion. My service rep was Abby and she was very helpful and informative in getting the whole RMA process going. At this point, I will assume it was just a bad luck of the draw for me. I do believe that Newegg will deliver an equal replacement in a timely manner.

4 out of 5 eggsGood Gaming Laptop; Not Great

Pros: Once some tweaking is done, this laptop performs well. I replaced my desktop at home with this laptop and it can play all the same games at good frame rates. The built-in speakers are loud and sound great. It delivers more power and at a lower price than some of the other leading gaming laptop brands (Alienware, Razer, etc.)

Cons: This computer needed an overhaul on delivery. The hard drives were all partitioned extremely weird (4 total logical drives). It also came stock with Windows 8 which is (in my personal opinion) annoying. I ended up re-partitioning the hard drives and re-installing Windows 8 (no "official" Windows 7 drivers on the ASUS support site) and modified Win8 with Stardock's Start8 application to get my Win7 start bar back.

I don't expect to be able to play games on battery power for long, but I do have the expectation to be able to play games to some extent while on battery power. The GTX 780M cannot maintain load on battery power and many games are practically unplayable while on battery power. When the power adapter is connected, games run fine. Even though the scenario where I don't have power to plug into is unlikely, it is still disappointing that a gaming laptop cannot play games on battery.

Other Thoughts: This is a great desktop replacement and gaming laptop if you are technical and have the prowess to rebuild the partition tables/OS and everywhere you go has some place for you to plug in the power.

If you didn't actually buy this to play games, you will probably love it. If you did and you were hoping to be able to jump into your favorite game the moment you get it you will likely be disappointed.

Just make sure that this is the right choice for you before you check out.

5 out of 5 eggsAbsolutely Incredible

Pros: Raid 0 will redefine fast for you, and this is coming from someone using a forceGT ssd.
The 780m is extremely fast
24gb is overkill, you could run an entire virtualized business server
The only bloat ware was mcafee, and it was easy to uninstall
The Killer Wireless is fast

Cons: Not Windows 8 pro, no remote desktop

Other Thoughts: The first time I used this machine I felt like speed was redefined for me. As a system builder I thought that perhaps I wasn't as good as I thought. Turns out, the specs on this site said the ssd was just a 256gb, but its the Raid 0 that really sets this machine apart. It is just ridiculously fast.

4 out of 5 eggsGood machine

Pros: good performance and cooling

Cons: case design/layout for I/O could be better, but ultimately the case venting is superior to MSI and Alienware... even if it's design is less flashy

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: There is no throttle issue at all. Beastly GTX 780m. The two mSATA3 ssd's run at an average of 776MB/s read speed and about 550MB/s write speed. Backlit keyboard is nice. Programs open quick, and the cold start up time is about 10 seconds, give or take.

Cons: The only con I have is the fact that you cannot swap the screen out for the 3D 120hz screen. I don't really care about the 3d, but having an optional 120hz display upgrade would be really nice.

Other Thoughts: I bought 2 x 256gb msata3 ssd's to replace the original ones, and I also got a Samsung 1TB ssd to put in the hard drive bay slot. I already replaced the 24GB of ram with 32GB of corsair vengeance RAM. I am going to get 7 HP to replace the 8 when the new SSD's finally arrive, and we should be good to go from there.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome Gaming Machine!

Pros: I'm writing this mainly to offset the negative review that I saw. Anyone who expects a fully customizable laptop may be in shock to find that desktops are better suited to that purpose.
I bought this laptop for the graphics card and the cooling abilities....and it delivers! I ran Assassin's Creed Black Flag for two hours, all the while enjoying the buttery-smooth gameplay, and the unit never even got past warm. The fans are very quiet and I never even noticed they were running.
I'm also impressed that the keyboard feels so solid and responsive for a laptop keyboard.

Cons: I am not wild about Windows 8, even the 8.1 version that I upgraded to. However, I wouldn't throw away 8 GB of memory just to use Windows 7 again.
