4 out of 5 eggsNot for the faint of heart.

This review is from: ASUS X502CA-RB01 Notebook Intel Celeron 1007U (1.5GHz) 4GB Memory 320GB HDD Intel HD Graphics 15.6" Windows 8 (64 bit)

Pros: Very light, but I expected that. 4lbs or so.

Screen is above average for the price.

3x USB 3.0

'Chiclet' keyboard, kind of a Pro.

FastBoot makes starting W8 a breeze.

UEFI+MBR boot options for adv. users.

Broadcom based WiFi (with weak transmit.)

TouchPad is sensitive.

Cons: Poor battery life, <2hr under any real load.

Screen is pretty cheap, mine had some color issues that are fixed by not allowing your power settings to modify the brightness.

TouchPad buttons are touch-sensitive and move the mouse 90% of the time when touched from above. You can slide your finger to the button, but I suppose you can see the issue with that...

1.5GHz Celeron Dual-Core. Cont. below

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

It's good to know that you like the lightweight, above average screen, fast bootup, chicklet keyboard and the UEFI BIOS. I apologize if you were dissatisfied with the battery life, senstive touchpad and the screen quality. In order to improve battery life, please try to charge the battery fully without using the system, drain it completely then repeat the charging process. The touchpad can be configured manually inside the ASUS Smart Gesture utility. Should you need further assistance, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and write down service# N140705900 on the subject line.

Thank you for choosing an ASUS product.

4 out of 5 eggsLight, Thin, Slow, Amazing Sound

This review is from: ASUS X502CA-RB01 Notebook Intel Celeron 1007U (1.5GHz) 4GB Memory 320GB HDD Intel HD Graphics 15.6" Windows 8 (64 bit)

Pros: Extremely Light
Thin
ASUS's SonicMaster really is amazing. I've never heard any laptop even come close to the crisp, warm, and clean sound that this laptop can make. I really was blown away by it.

Cons: Slow. I can't even listen to music on Youtube or Google Music while browsing websites in other tabs without the music stopping or stuttering until the page is finished loading. It also took me about 4 hours on a 20 mb/s to update to Windows 8.1

The touchpad is awful. It's hypersensitive and yet somehow also poorly responsive. The left and right buttons are part of the touchpad, so you can't click on things without making the computer think you're trying to drag them unless you take your other finger off the touchpad. You could also just try to use that one finger to move the mouse and click, but the higher you go on the touchpad, the more force is required to click, until you get towards the top which can't click at all. It's absolutely silly.

Other Thoughts: Screen turned and stayed white on the second day of owning it, so I decided to return it instead of wait a couple weeks to get it replaced. Tech support was very professional and didn't try to push their service on me when I really needed a new laptop the next day.

4 out of 5 eggsGood laptop especially for the price.

This review is from: ASUS X502CA-RB01 Notebook Intel Celeron 1007U (1.5GHz) 4GB Memory 320GB HDD Intel HD Graphics 15.6" Windows 8 (64 bit)

Pros: Thin, light, very portable.
Very. very good price.
Sleek looking
Good functionality
NEVER gets too hot.

Cons: Keyboard feels very stiff, it might be to due me being spoiled by very nice gaming keyboards, but it feels very stiff to me.

Can be choppy at times, likely due to a moderately weak processor.

Windows 8 :(

3 out of 5 eggsAsus

This review is from: ASUS X502CA-RB01 Notebook Intel Celeron 1007U (1.5GHz) 4GB Memory 320GB HDD Intel HD Graphics 15.6" Windows 8 (64 bit)

Pros: The weight, and feel of this computer is the absolute best. It serves the purpose I bought it for, which is too lug around a rather large campus. The screen size is awesome as well

Cons: I don't ever write reviews, but this computer made me. This stupid touchpad mouse is the worst thing I have ever dealt with in my life. It is so touchy just while typing this my hand grazed it and I am back on the home screen. Also, I knew Windows 8 sucked, but I had no idea it was this bad. It is not cohesive at all, randomly things move too new corners of the computer. What used to be in one corner has changed too another.

Other Thoughts: Overall, the computer is great. I am happy with my purchase. I am investing in a wireless mouse though.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Liz,

I'm glad to know that you are satisfied with the laptop. I certainly understand your concern regarding the issue with the touchpad. Please allow some time to use to the multi-touch feature of the pad. In order to improve the touchpad responsiveness and stability, please install all recommended WINDOWS Update and upgrade to WINDOWS 8.1. Also, try updating the ASUS Smart Gesture utility and try to configure the touchpad within the application. Should you need further assistance, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and write down service# 3592910 on the subject line.

Thank you for choosing an ASUS product.
