1 out of 5 eggsA pretty good little machine ruined by mind-bogglingly poor service

This review is from: ASUS Google Nexus 7 FHD (2013) Android Tablet - 2GB RAM Quad-Core CPU 16GB Flash (Wi-Fi Only)

Pros: It's nice and thin and stylish, much like myself. And it's great to get OS updates quickly.

Cons: When I sent it in for service, they smashed the screen and insisted it had arrived that way even though they sent me photos of it at the repair facility with the screen un-smashed. I found other Asus customers online with exactly the same story.

Since they sent it back, the screen shows quite a bit of banding, sometimes spazzes out and registers fake touches, and other times doesn't recognize any input at all. And what am I supposed to do, send it back to be repaired again?

Other Thoughts: Asus is dead to me. In the future, I will happily pay substantially more for an equivalent product from another manufacturer.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

It's great knowing that you are satisfied with the nice and stylish design of the tablet. I apologize for your dissatisfaction with the repair service quality. We do value our customer and take negative customer service experience very seriously. If you need further assistance, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and write down service# 3600080 on the subject line.

Thank you for choosing an ASUS product.

1 out of 5 eggsGreat for three months...then DEAD

This review is from: ASUS Google Nexus 7 FHD (2013) Android Tablet - 2GB RAM Quad-Core CPU 16GB Flash (Wi-Fi Only)

Pros: The display was great, the processor was fast, but none of that matters in the end because just two months after purchasing, it stopped recharging.

Cons: No support from Asus although this is a well documented issue that people are having with the Nexus 7. Asus has been less than helpful. All of their suggestions fail to work so I now have a dead tablet.

Other Thoughts: Do not buy.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

Thank you for the positive comment with the tablet. I apologize if the system failed to power on after 2 months. Please verify if the USB cable and A adapter are properly connected to from the tablet to a working surge protector or AC outlet. Please try to disconnect the AC adapter and let the unit drain for 24 hours to reset and clear the memory. After doing this, please reconnect your AC adapter then power on the unit. If the problem persists, please press and hold the power button, repeat this process a couple of times, until you see an ASUS logo or a battery icon. If a battery icon shows up, let the battery charge fully before turning it on again. If you need further assistance, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and write down service# 3593186 on the subject line.

Thank you for choosing an ASUS product.

5 out of 5 eggsNexus 7

This review is from: ASUS Google Nexus 7 FHD (2013) Android Tablet - 2GB RAM Quad-Core CPU 16GB Flash (Wi-Fi Only)

Pros: This tablet it great. Thin, light and the battery charges super fast. Works with almost anything and does it fast.

My 7 month old is playing fisher price baby games on it sometimes. Wi-fi works awesome as does everything else. I use it everyday to control my chromecast with netflix.

My fiance is giving up her Iphone and getting an android phones after using this.

Cons: The only thing i can say that is bad is that it seems to not play some .avi videos.

Other Thoughts: Don't put it in you pocket and sit on it.
My dad who has almost zero technical knowledge bought one after seeing mine and has had a great experience with it.

1 out of 5 eggsLook elsewhere

This review is from: ASUS Google Nexus 7 FHD (2013) Android Tablet - 2GB RAM Quad-Core CPU 16GB Flash (Wi-Fi Only)

Pros: Cheaper than most comparable tablets.
Works well during the short times it can operate.

Cons: Recent updates have caused this device to take approximately 10 hours to charge completely. This is unacceptable. The battery life is not great to begin with. Expect a maximum of 2 hours during moderate use. There are also frequent issues with connecting to wifi.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

It's great to know that you like the tablet price wise. I do understand your concern regarding the charging issue after the update. Please try to do a hardware reset, the recent system update is possibly unsuccessful, corrupted the OS and had caused battery charging and WIFI connection issue. If you need further assistance, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and write down service# 3573484 on the subject line.

Thank you for choosing an ASUS product.

1 out of 5 eggsNexus 7

This review is from: ASUS Google Nexus 7 FHD (2013) Android Tablet - 2GB RAM Quad-Core CPU 16GB Flash (Wi-Fi Only)

Pros: Pretty screen, fast processor, good specs and price

Cons: Does not perform the one task I really want it to perform. So it is essentially useless to me. Will not access Netflix no matter what. No support for this app exists. My error code 150001 is an inescapable constant error. I really wish I didn't buy this. If this functioned as it should it would be five eggs. Where is the customer support for important apps?

Other Thoughts: This is a $200 machine that lets me watch youtube from various places in the house.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

It's good to know that you like the pretty screen, past processor, good specification and price. I certainly understand your concern not being able to play Netflix. Please make sure you have installed the latest version of Netflix and the tablet is running with the most current system update. Should you need further assistance, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and write down service# 3573589 on the subject line.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat three weeks!

This review is from: ASUS Google Nexus 7 FHD (2013) Android Tablet - 2GB RAM Quad-Core CPU 16GB Flash (Wi-Fi Only)

Pros: -OS is awesome
-display size is optimal for viewing almost anything from apps to webpages
-resolution
-Good graphics
-Excellent price for the GB capacity
-design itself is slick, so easy on the hand

Cons: -Glass is fragile

Other Thoughts: This was my first tablet, and probably my last. I hesitated to buy one in the first place because they are not meant to last (Because of its size, fragility, design and portability), and I was not proven wrong. The glass broke inside my backpack, which scared me at first because I thought the Ultrabook next to it might have suffered the same fate. Nothing happened to the Ultrabook.

DIY would mean spending more than $120 on a glass/LCD replacement. Might as well buy a new one and save yourself the hassle.

Advice: Might be a good idea to go for the replacement/repair coverage for this tablet (or any tablet for that matter).

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer

Thank you for the positive review. I apologize if the screen was broken. ASUS doesn't warranty cracked screen. If you need further assistance, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and write down service# 3536793 on the subject line.

5 out of 5 eggsCan't warranty stupid...

This review is from: ASUS Google Nexus 7 FHD (2013) Android Tablet - 2GB RAM Quad-Core CPU 16GB Flash (Wi-Fi Only)

Pros: Its a Nexus... PURE Android, first dibs on updates, blazing fast, and has IPS display.

Cons: NONE.

Other Thoughts: In regards to my Title, reading over the people's feedback about cracked screens.

If you crack the screen, that is your fault, no body else's and you just have to man up and admit your fault. If I crash my car into a wall, do you think Audi will repair my car under warranty?

1 out of 5 eggsBeware

This review is from: ASUS Google Nexus 7 FHD (2013) Android Tablet - 2GB RAM Quad-Core CPU 16GB Flash (Wi-Fi Only)

Pros: Light device, bright and crisp screen, excellent sound, snappy and responsive, low cost.

Cons: Really delicate.

My situation was similar to Scott P's. Was getting a ride from my mother (having car troubles) and I thought I'd do some reading on the way. Had my N7 in my pocket and when I pulled it out, there were cracks in a large, upside-down 'v' shape from top to either side. My Nexus was the only item in my pocket, there was no impact (I didn't bump anything), and I'd only owned it for 18 days at this point. Upon trying the device out, the digitizer wouldn't recognize any input except for the occasional tap on the upper right dot for the pattern unlock.

Other Thoughts: There are so many other reviews that I wish I'd listened to. Asus charges almost as much as a new device to replace the display, and refuses to do anything about it while it's under warranty.

As an iPhone owner of 4 years, I was hoping for a good taste of Android to potentially switch to (especially with a Google promoted product such as the Nexus!) Unfortunately, this left me feeling quite burned and I'll probably be replacing it with an iPad Mini. While not the tablet I'd prefer, I've seen people treat their Apple products worse and have them last longer. Also the fact that they will cover almost any damage under warranty (replaced my MBP battery, hdd, and trackpad at no cost to me) really softens the deal and justifies the higher cost.

Will probably no longer be purchasing any more Asus products either.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

I apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused you. The screen will not easily cracked under normal condition. ASUS doesn't warranty cracked screen. If you need further assistance, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and write down service# 3540402 on the subject line.

Thank you for choosing an ASUS product.

1 out of 5 eggsGreat OS, Everything Else Though

This review is from: ASUS Google Nexus 7 FHD (2013) Android Tablet - 2GB RAM Quad-Core CPU 16GB Flash (Wi-Fi Only)

Pros: I actually liked the Operating System of the tablet, I liked how it rotated the screen so i never had it upside down. It was incredibly fast, and then it was so small and convenient too. Really, I was insanely pleased.

Cons: But then I ran into the cons, I wasn't doing anything one day in class (having bought it for school) and when I pulled it out of my pocket (having it be so small made it great for storing it like I do my cell phone but in a seperate pocket (by itself of course) ) the screen was damaged. There was a crack in the top that made almost no sense to me but i shrugged it off, cosmetics are nice but just not important over all. However then I found out the screen was unresponsive, it wouldn't rotate and half of it wouldn't launch my apps or anything, not even the home button worked.

When I went to contact the manufacturer (after already talking to the company I bought it from and Google), they told me that the problem was due to neglect and that I would have to pay nearly the price of the tablet to get it fixed. The representative I talked to was just copy pasting responses over and over instead of talking to me and in the end just completely upset me. The company was unresponsive to it's customers needs and just seemed to be trying to squeeze out every last dollar that I had, which they did. And now I'm here sitting out nearly three-hundred dollars.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

I'm glad to know that you were pleased with the tablet. I apologize if the screen cracked. ASUS doesn't warranty cracked screen. If you need further assistance, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and write down service# 3540470 on the subject line.

5 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: ASUS Google Nexus 7 FHD (2013) Android Tablet - 2GB RAM Quad-Core CPU 16GB Flash (Wi-Fi Only)

Pros: Razor sharp screen, deep saturated colors that almost look like an OLED.

Fast CPU, plus Android 4.4 make the UI nice and smooth. Swipe gestures, for example, are super fluid.

The unusual 7" form factor's biggest benefit is you can hold it with one hand.

Useful camera, pity there's no flash.

Cons: No expandable storage. Sometimes wish the screen were bigger.

Volume rocker and power button are located in a hard-to-reach spot.

Other Thoughts: My first tablet. I didn't really feel it was that much more useful than my phone+laptop, so I gave it to my technophobe mom. I was over the moon when she called me a month later and said she stopped watching the news on TV now that she gets it through her tablet :)
