5 out of 5 eggsI hope this continues to work.

This review is from: ASUS Google Nexus 7 FHD (2013) Android Tablet - 2GB RAM Quad-Core CPU 16GB Flash (Wi-Fi Only)

Pros: My first one was also the 2013 model but with 32GB of Memory. That died in 3 months. This new one was actually built 3/20/2015 and came with 5.0 by default. Not a refurb. I installed all the further updates and so far so good. Only issue is I spent the same price on the 16GB non refurb as I did the 32GB refurb. So I was upset when it died. I can live with 16GB, I just use my tablet for movies and games from Facebook and a few MMO's.. Unlike my last one I could have all my apps and games I purchased and be able to download movies. So I am upset, but I am over it now. My accessories all work obviously so I saved on those.

Cons: No cons with my newly made 3/2015 16GB Tablet.

Other Thoughts: I guess I'll just buy new from now on for a full warranty. If I had in the first place I would not be in this boat. Go ahead and buy these new ones from Newegg as they are new from this year and come with 5.0 from default. So you should I hope anyways get lots of use out of it.

1 out of 5 eggsMine just died after the update!

This review is from: ASUS Google Nexus 7 FHD (2013) Android Tablet - 2GB RAM Quad-Core CPU 16GB Flash (Wi-Fi Only)

Pros: My Nexus 7 (2013) 32gb worked great, till the last update to 5.1.1.

Cons: Like others are mentioning, the 5.1.1 update will brick your Nexus. Mine started random rebooting shortly after the update. I thought I would try and refresh it but it kept saying it was "erasing"...even showed a cute little picture of the android robot on its back with a red triangle in the middle of it's chest. NOT FUNNY people!! Now it only shows "Google" on the screen. Yes, I tried all the tricks...it's dead.

Other Thoughts: THANKS GOOGLE, that was my last purchase.

2 out of 5 eggsYet another one: OS update bricked it

This review is from: ASUS Google Nexus 7 FHD (2013) Android Tablet - 2GB RAM Quad-Core CPU 16GB Flash (Wi-Fi Only)

Pros: Beautiful display, perfect size (for my needs), quick response, great wifi connectivity

Cons: Occasionally glitch, and well, the whole 5.1.1 OS update fried it to brick status thing.

Other Thoughts: To be clear, I recognize that products can have problems. But it's how the manufacturer responds (or doesn't) that draws a consumer's ire or praise.

Like others, my Nexus 7 was working fine for more than a year, right up until the most recent OS update. The looping in the flash memory burns the memory to ash.

ASUS continues to treat this issue like just another motherboard failure, when it's now very well documented. Again, "Nexus 7 locked on Google screen" is the search that reveals thousands of these devices that have failed with an OS update. I suppose thousands of failures weighed against millions sold qualifies this as an "isolated" problem, according to ASUS.

Note to ASUS: offering to repair these devices at a cost that exceeds the cost of a new tablet is NOT a solution and it is not a suitable or commendable response. Thousands of your products have failed, but hey, we know, until a class action lawsuit arrives, it's just not your responsibility to make this right.

All my ASUS products will go on the selling block if a suitable solution isn't found. And if ASUS steps up to the plate to make it right for the thousands of people who watched an OS update brick their tablet, I will be the first one back here to praise them for their product support.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Tablet, until you remember ASUS made it

This review is from: ASUS Google Nexus 7 FHD (2013) Android Tablet - 2GB RAM Quad-Core CPU 16GB Flash (Wi-Fi Only)

Pros: I loved my Nexus 7. I loved how I didn't have to deal with the preloaded stuff you get with devices from bigger brands like ASUS. The screen was utterly amazing and the device overall felt high quality than other mobile devices I had used.

Cons: ASUS made it. I've bought two different tablets from ASUS and I cannot stand their service. Both tablets broke on my behalf, but each time, I recieved the worst support.

My first tablet arrived pretty much broken, with a dead Micro-USB port that caved in on first use, and when I tried to get it fixed (because warranties) I basically got the run-around, and just said forget it.

With both tablets, they told me that the price to fix a broken screen (I keep breaking screens) would be higher than the tablet's worth. Like, I understand that I broke them, but the support I got in light of this was just terrible. I have an ASUS monitor and an ASUS mobo and these are pretty much going to be the last ASUS products I ever have.

Anyways, I wouldn't reccomend getting this tablet strictly because ASUS will end up shortsticking you when something goes wrong.

2 out of 5 eggsNot So Nexus

This review is from: ASUS Google Nexus 7 FHD (2013) Android Tablet - 2GB RAM Quad-Core CPU 16GB Flash (Wi-Fi Only)

Pros: Compact, lite, and interface responses quickly when using. The Quad Core CPU works well and has just enough RAM for a tablet. Great device if you just want something for reading eBooks or browsing the internet from your couch.

Cons: NO SD CARD SLOT!!! You might be able to take pictures with it, but don't have any practical storage space for them. It might hold 3 movies, a dozen apps, and 40 songs with just 16GB of internal memory. At least cell phones with 16GB of internal memory have an sd card slot for expansion and transferring files.

1 out of 5 eggsGreat, until OS update bricked it

This review is from: ASUS Google Nexus 7 FHD (2013) Android Tablet - 2GB RAM Quad-Core CPU 16GB Flash (Wi-Fi Only)

Pros: Great screen, great performance, great form factor.

Cons: Applying 5.1.1 upgrade bricked it.

Other Thoughts: Too bad about the brick. Up until then, it was a fantastic device.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Donald,

I'm sorry if the OS update was unsuccessful and made the tablet unbootable. Please try disconnect the AC adapter and drain the battery fully then reconnect the AC adapter and power on the unit. If the problem persists, you may need to send the unit in for service. If you need further assistance sending it in, please email me at cl-rodel@asus.com and write down service# N150718241 on the subject line.

Thank you for choosing an ASUS product.

5 out of 5 eggsSatisfied and impressed

This review is from: ASUS Google Nexus 7 FHD (2013) Android Tablet - 2GB RAM Quad-Core CPU 16GB Flash (Wi-Fi Only)

Pros: Fast, very-high resolution, and updates to the latest version of Android -- see "Other thoughts".

Cons: None yet. None of the issues that a few people have reported...so I suspect that the issues are rare. People are more likely to post a review to complain than to praise.

Other Thoughts: Specs on the Newegg listing say "Android 4.3", but mine had 5.0.2 installed when I turned it on for the first time. And it soon notified me that 5.1 was available to download and install, which I did. And then it notified me that 5.1.1 was available to dl and install, which I did. So this 2-yr-old device is now totally up to date! :-)

5 out of 5 eggsMy Nexus 7 Affair

This review is from: ASUS Google Nexus 7 FHD (2013) Android Tablet - 2GB RAM Quad-Core CPU 16GB Flash (Wi-Fi Only)

Pros: Awesome screen color and definition, very fast CPU, Well built

Cons: CPU heats up Sometimes if i have alot of programs Running at the same time

Other Thoughts: I don't normally write reviews but i will if a product warrants it.. I have had my nexus 7 for about 18 mo or a year and a half.. Since the day i got it it has been on all day and used all day between my wife and i and our kids.. The kids and I play games and i use it as a networking device to my home computer when we are out. I got a OTG adapter and use a mouse and keyboard with it also.. This tablet has literally been used 8-10hrs a day everyday without fail.. We have had 2 drops that were scary but no damage was done so it is durable to a point.. My battery is still working great and holding a charge as if it was new.. I recommend not using the tablet while charging instead charge fully while off at night and let it drain during the day..if and when it gets low before iam done using it i will shut it off and let it charge for an hour and your good to go.. The only issue i have had is if i have a lot of programs running the cpu gets hot My solution was to download a free program that just makes sure programs that were closed are not still using resources in the background.. This is a well built tablet with a stunning screen plex and netflix work extremely well.. I highly recommend this tablet and with a screen protector and battery maint.. This tablet will be very reliable for years.. I have read other reviews about an issue with this tablet not working after updating and I personally have installed all updates and have not had any issues... If you are looking for a well built tablet the nexus 7 2nd gen is well worth the price and in my opinion competes with tablets that are much more pricer
